  1. in Rex Hunts vol. 1. a young bloke hauls up a bald chin grouper and a big gold spot trevally from a similar height, hair raising stuff , would not like to be so close to a big drop myself
  2. went out with Dad yesterday , picked me up at 5.30 for a chilly start to the day got to the ramp just before 6.oo to see only 2 other trailers, so a nice easy launch motoring out the water was like glass , till we rounded the breakwall then there was a slight ripple slight sth to s/w blowing so we headed straight for Dolls point the further along the beach we got , the bigger the swell , 4' waves at dolls pt ( 3 guys surfed later on ) so we started another drift towards the middle of the bay were the water was smooth put on my 4 " gulp turtleback worm and proceeded to cast and retrieve (about 50 times )before a bite couple of small tailor , quickley dispatched to fight another day Dad's turn now and has a short tussle with a small flattie , returned also after about an hour we drifted over some some nice lumpy looking bottom in 3 meters had a good hit and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing , off goes my little reel , man this is fun another couple of runs and i get a look at it , a nice aussie salmon doing an impersonation of a marlin couple of more runs and jumps and he's boatside , so it's time to try our new rubber net the salmon is playing hardball as we try to net him , diving deep as Dad gets the net close these fish are good fighters on light gear and have plenty of stamina Im starting to get the shits and decide to try to land him myself (Dad doesn't like the new net ) get him just about in and grab the leader and you guessed it , snap oh well, at least I got a good thrill ride 10 minutes later Dad's on , another sambo and this ones screaming Dad's new bream rod , a berkley dropshot is getting a serious workout run after run and it doesn't want to get near the boat , but unlike me, Dad has patience after a good 10 or 12 minutes I christened the new net and Dad his rod we go back and do the same drift , and a short while later another hit and my reel is singing again I call it for a sambo as he takes a few runs , but get him close and it's a big whiting 41 cm's for my pb don't they go hard as well after about 7 long hours and only 2 keepers we call it a day, this is when we saw the blokes surfing Doll's pt , what a sight sorry no pic's hope next fortnight is better as my freezer is MT
  3. thanx guy's yes I just joined 2 pieces of line but have it near the start of the spool so should be OK
  4. I got a nasty mess in my line last Saturday had to cut it , no chance of getting the knot out tied an Allbright in the braid will it still have the same breaking strain ? by the way I spooled it off onto another reel and spooled again then back onto my reel so as the join is at the beginning of the spool

  6. hopefully with this rain they will be back in a few days we found more bream and reddies in the Bay after the rain in early May maybe they like a bit of fresh ?
  7. I just bought one on good advice being an avid catch and release fisherman (when the freezer is full) I wanted to make a difference the survival rate of my conquests are important to me have not tried it yet , will be out on Botany bay on Monday , weather permitting any one used a similar net ?
  8. thanks very much cleared it up for us as we were a bit confused
  9. is that Botany bay ? we haven't found any bream on our last 2 trips are you fishing the runways or hot water outlet ?
  10. where is it legal to clean fish ? can you gut and clean in the bay while still fishing ? I know you are not allowed near ramps and wharfs # Are aware that it is an offence under the Litter Act 1973 to clean fish on wharves and boat ramps, and therefore use areas that will not disadvantage other users of our marine environment.
  11. that's just unreal i would love to catch trout in a flowing river maybe we will go there instead of Chifley dam this year
  12. are you talking about the ramp at the dam wall ? if so , we don't put in there where we launch there are no ramps only mud if it is low, 4wd a must last trip I made a jetty out of old pallets I found around the property nearly killed me dragging that shit down , the owner didn't understand why I said to him , why would you want to sink in mud when you put your boat in when you can stand on timber and keep clean he just looked at me strangley some people aye the bloke has never fished there in the whole time he's had the property we ended up draggin the friggin pallets out with a tractor the mud was so sticky
