  1. Hi all, Well my wife had a house full of kids and Mums planned on Sat, so I was let out to play ( "gone fishin") . Hit the water just before light, putted out of Dolans Bay, across to Mainbar sand flats and pumped nippers, no did not get bitten...my trick is when I get the big fella's, I grab a pair of pointy pliers and snap the pincer off the big claw, this way he still waves alot saying come 'get me', and I avoid getting nipped!!! Anyway drifted the drop offs for a while, scored a couple of flatties on nippers and a few smaller ones on sp's. Nothing much happening so headed around to a drop off I know and drifted through an eddie that runs off a sand flat into a deep hole.....snapper evrywhere I was using a patternoster rig with light weight and hooked at least 8 - 10 snapper in 1 hr. The problem being they were all 28/29cm, so 1/2cm off legal, so I released them as they were caught I thought, bloody hell surely their mum / dad or big uncle could have a go, but this was not to happen!!! Anyway stuffed around fished everywhere with everything I had, got zilch....then heading home just near the boat ramp there is another nice drop off, I still had nippers left (as I went back and topped up before the high hit)...so thought I would drop a few over the edge and drift back to the ramp...once again the nippers got slammed and guess who by??? The snapper 29'ers club, I could not pull a trick again pulled up about 6 in 30 mins with the optimistic attitude of " I know you're there big fella" so steak on the BBQ Sat night but overall a great day out. Cheers guy's and good luck on the next outing. I'm going to have a go one night this week under Cpmo bridge for a few jewies/ big bream, will let u know how we go!! Adios!! WD
  2. Way to go Davy...it is the best when a bream hits your Sp, no sucking and mucking around , just slam .... what size was your sp??? I have been doing OK in the past with 3" minnows in pumpkinseed.. cheers again, great effort wd
  3. re the sunset, I went down to cronulla for an early walk / surf this morn. the sunrise was awesome...I think it is the westerley creating great cloud shapes cheers wd
  4. Hi Iain, Firstly I am not the squid king!!! But I replied to the same question re squid in p/hacking. Mate the only thing I know, is when I go hunting for a solid bream, I find bloody squid, so the territory seems to be similar. Dark, weedy, structure, shelter, hard up against rock wall drop offs etc etc. I don't actually catch too many squid though as previously mentioned when I am fully focused on presenting a SP so a big fat bream smashes it, I find bloody squid.. Plemty of structure in the bay, have no hot spot to report on but I am sure if you look for sea bed structure ie weed and drop offs your favourite neighbour will come to play, Squiddy!!!! Good luck, cheers WD
  5. Hi ya, Sqid absolutely everywhere in the Hacking. Find a weed bed or steep drop off with shelter, spin little jigs and watch the show. My last three outings in the hacking, I had more takes on my SP's from aggro suid than I did fish!!! Good luck cheers wd
  6. most common excuses used when caught!! what lobsters!!! my name is not terry!!! i though this was my anchor!! Mum' sick and needs some lobster!!! i'm lost and want my mummy!!! bloody rip offs, bigger ego's than talent..never hear of ET doing this sort of rubbish...GO THE SHARKS!!!
  7. great stuff...sp's work a treat. plenty of practice ( I am still at it ) but of late I am getting fish and if not some great hits....would'nt look alsewhere now...I'm hooked also.....cheers wd
  8. hi ya robwon, mate welcome to the club. I have just started sp fishing myself, and after a few frustrating episodes have broken the curse also ( but not as much as you ), so yeah I don't know tooo much about all the sp's available, but I started on berkley power baits and gulps and have no desire to change just yet, they produce results one way or another...keep at it mate...cheers wd
  9. hey great report guy's. will definitely try peeled prawns with kings, we were doing well with live nippers on the run in port hacking but mainly bream no kings....worth a try sounds like it works in the bay..cheers WD
  10. Fished Port Hacking early morn Sat, at bottom of tide and slack water started to drift edge of weed beds on run in just off lilli pilli....shallow water, kings everywhere hammering baitfish, a mate and I flicked plastics, and lures, again they had a look at my mates but had plenty to eat !!! later on we motored up in to deep south west arm, same again water boiling with kings and baitfish, same approach, sluggo's everything....= nothing??? I am obviously doing something wrong!!! any advice out there??? cheers wd
  11. great to see youi enjoyed the pic, I couldn't belive it when I first set eyes on it...lets keep cahsin these big beautiflu lizards...cheers wd
  12. Ithink this is because the guy holding her has his hands up u/neath the gills...agree looks bigger
  13. no idea of his name, just a funny bloke... same with me though, have had 80cm kings swimming underneath boat having a good look and getting real close to a shad and then a sluggo , but then just turn away and swim to the bottom .....
  14. Hi all, just reading a few messages from you lads and it reminded me of some advice to share. I was out on Port Hacking about 4 weeks ago???? can't remember, but anyway this really friendly bloke paddling along in a canoe / kayak sided up to my boat for a chat and a fishing report. He advised me that the Hacking was full of kings, but thery were pretty sneaky. He found the best result to be was he would find them just hanging around moored boats in Dolans Bay and teh other bays and just flicking really light sp's in underneath. His explanation of what happened next was hilarious, but basically he has been landing 60 to 80cm kingies on light gear in a canoe / kayak, but to do this he is mainly dragged by them around half of the hacking before they give up. He reckons the ride is better than the catch!!!!! hope this shares some insight into the evasive masked raider kings!!! By the way , I adopted his approach in a tinnie....no luck! cheers wd
  15. Hi guy's just reading your views, and I have no comments to make. The only thing I am really pleased about is that i bought an abu garcia 7ft flick rod with a abu garci 4 BB real for $65, with cork grips etc. I'm no pro but this rod / reel to me are working great and catching me fish with sp's.....with the outfit came a berkley dvd free, which I thought was a bonus. The guy in the dvd is up for a good laugh, has some fun and knows what he's talking about. I've followed pretty much what he has said with mainly berklet gulp and power bait sp's ( which was the aim of the dvd ) but I'm stoked, becasue I'm catching fish...my point?? If you see it check it out, because I too sometimes feel that the boys pushing suiddgies are bloody great, but there is a real overtone of commercial salesmanship, so at this point I turn off. The berkely dvd not that bad, good info and a great little outfit for the cash... food for thought, as they are very upfront about who they are and what they reckon works... a good watch cheers wd
  16. G'day MM, just read your replies re nowra / poppers escapade. I have only just started fishing down there as this is the first summer I've had a boat so I'm new to the water ways but one of the spots is no secret, it actually gets really crowded, but the following outline of what we did worked OK. The spot is the mouth of the basin where the sussex inlet river runs straight into it. When the tide is on the run in, it belts around the corner, hits the sand flats, and then drops into deep water creating a nice eddie, with I'm sure plenty of tucker for the scaly lads down under the surface. So this morning that we fished it, we did the following: Got there at the start or maybe midway thru the run in tide, got on the spot before light broke, anchored just on the edge of the eddie and cast upstream and let our baits drift slowly down on #2 bean sinker with a 1200 mm fluro trace and using big mouth hooks. Bait is a dead set certainty which is fresh ( but frozen ) big fat hawksbry prawns, fed around the hook, looking pretty sexy with the tip of the hook tucked up under their legs...with a real light drag. When the boys find them their is no nibble nibble, just a nice slow firm drag saying " give the bloody prawn to me"!!! then set the hook. We had a ball, not a big haul but we pulled 4 fat bream in, within 30 mins, and when light broke the run in tide was a like a truck without brakes and we got bnothing else for an hour after wards until moved and drifted the inlet river....a couple of pics below, but a great time had by all. Cheers, hope this sheds some sort of light on the area for fellow raiders!! catch ya wd
  17. no idea re length but it would have to be 1 mtr ( maybe + ).Weight would have to be close to 15 kg mark as I have seen another pic of a flatty that was about 2/3rd the size and it weighed 7.5kg cleaned, and it was way smaller than this one....yeah would have been nice to take a pic and release, but somedays to us all even big momma flatties... catch ya later cheers wd
  18. Hi fellow fish maniacs, on the topic of big flatties a mate of mine who lives down the coast works with a bloke that caught this flattie. The story goes he was out fishing with his young son, caught a 30cm whiting and handed to his young son to play with while he sorted something else out. A short while later and drifting, the boat started to be dragged (slowly) towards an old wharf. After a fair tussle, this is the flatty that was landed... !!!!!
  19. cheers guy's, all things going well I'm heading out tommorrow late for a session, will let you know how things go if worth reporting on. catch ya wd
  20. Flattieman, cheers mate, I hope my next set of pics are of bigger flatties or maybe crocs??? Have a good mate that doesn't brag. A fairly good salt water fly guy, and over xmas up north he and another mate were pulling in flatties that measured the 1.5mtr mark off shallow sand flats on light fly gear, he said it was like wrestling crocs, all were released. Catching up with him next week so might be able to share a couple of pics....all the best wd
  21. thanks guy's. Will update on progress using a few options. cheers WD
  22. Thanks Sharky... I'm fishing from a 4.2 tinnie so I can get to the spots. A mate reckons under and around the como bridge floating pillies on gangs under a float??? Good advice or not ??? Thanks for your sp tips...
  23. Hi fishraiders Keen to tackle a few jewies on both sp and live bait but not sure what sp's to use or what Live Bait rigs to use. Appreciate any info you want to share. Main locations will be Botany Bay / Georges River up to Woronora and Port Hacking.. cheers and thanks Wd
  24. thanks shane, I'm already hooked on sp's.....can't wait to get back out there and have a flick... cheers mate
