  1. Well done mate....I have also heard that you spend so much time trying to cast out into the depths while beach fishing and just in front of you is all the catch you want...good gutters mean good fish....fish close in future. Great catch. Cheers WD
  2. Hi Yowie, FIshed Sat arvo for bait, berleyed up water with stale bread and plenty around. Landed about 10 or so, now have some fresh bait. Fished early Sun morning, very slow couple of just on size bream, switched to SP and retrieved slow over weed beds only to bit hit a couple of times by hairtail, naunces. Just on top of tide, the place just went dead, no bait fish, no bites, nothing. Don't think much happening at present. Earlier in year fished bends with large nippers unwaited and landed 2 x whiting, 41cm and 39cm. They're there just picky. Cheers WD
  3. Hi All, Interested to know if anyone does well catching fish between the boat ramp at Woronora near bridge and down into the Georges around Como rail bridge. Appreciat any advice on, spots, rig, bait or SP's and tides. Cheers WD
  4. Geat reprot and well done, what a day. A few years ago, spun the same drop off with SP, 4"shad and got slammed just at the drop off in about 1 to 1.5mts of water. It only took a few casts, a couple of flicks bouncing the shad across the bottom, and the scent from the Gulp shad must have then woken the old fella up and he decided to have a snack, as he hit the SP pretty hard. Landed a nice 45cm flattie and had a great time. Look forward to gettin back out there soon. Cheers WD
  5. Hey All, Have not had the tinnie out for over 12 mths and usually fish Port HAcking, Botany Bay and Drop in from Worronora and down to Como. Keen to hear who has been hooking up, where, catching what and bait / plastics, rigs used. Cheers W
  6. Way to go matt t, what a little winner!! have a good one cheers wd
  7. Hi, I work around Pyrmont wharf area on the western side of the harbour. Went and had a quick flick with sp's after work this week ( land based from wharf ), flicking sp 3" flick baits back u'neath the wharves and there were a few medium size kings that made a blurt for them and then turned away. They were surface feeding alos seemed to be a school of around 6 of them. They then moved away out into the middleof the bay on th eastern side of anzac bridge in front of the container terminals where the concret blocks are. Nt sure if this helps but they were very active and thrashing around a bit when out in middle of bay. Average length would have to be 65 / 70cm +. Good luck WD
  8. Thanks mate, they're priceless. The 3yo is also a keen angler, but it was one on one time with 6yo this time out. Special memories mate, that are priceless. Yep rugrats are the best...cheers WD
  9. Hi All, Took my 6 yo daughter out early Sat morn for a fish as she just loves it. We were on the water just on sun up and even if we didn't catch a fish the journey was great. We started firstly fishing around Como Bridge but tide was too fast so after trynig a few spots with nothing we headed back up stream. Well using hawsburry prawns on light weight it was not long before we had a few good runs. My daughter had a great old fight on her hands with a bream that would not give up and after a while we boated a fair size bream. A big effort for a 6yo on light gear. Pic attached check the bend in the rod Me not much just spent most of my time putting bait on teh hook for the professional angler in the boat ( Em ). Back at the ramp there was a smile of satisfaction that no playstation can ever deliver , the feeling of having a fish, catching a few and just getting out there...happy fishing guy's, if you've got kids get them out there!!! cheers WD
  10. Hi Rob, Yeah, very rarely go out without the boat but when I get the chance I head down to Tom Uglys or Captain Cook bridges for a land based sp session for a few hours to see what I can drag up. It's not always super productive, which questions that I may be doing soemthing wrong, though I usually get a few good hits and the odd fish ( mainly bream ). cheers wd
  11. G'day, I've found the same, if fishing at night I am using either shads or larger . Last night fish outing I used a berkley power bait 4" minnow grub in glass minnow ( clear ) with a 1/16 head for casting from land ( left boat at home ) and then just used a slow medium slow medium retrieve and let the tail do the work. This sp also has a reflector foil inside so with some light above me from a bridge it worked well. Caught bream only a few good keepers along with plenty of aggro little guy's which makes me think it was the tail action and not the size of the sp grub( only an opinion ). Then changed my spot and sp to a 1/24 head with a 2" pink lemonade grub flicking around a jetty with a few boats and got my little sp dragged kicking and screaming under a boat and busted off ( big bream?? ), so for me at night shads or grubs.. hope this helps. cheers wd
  12. Hi Bob, in relation to jig heads, sp's and retrieves I am also working through the maze of what works where? One thing I have found is that the lighter the jig head the better action I can get out of a stick bait ie 3" minnow or squidggy 3"stick baits. I have been using 1/40 and 1/36 Gamakatsu jigs where the weight is actually hidden in the sp as you slide them on is v/good and when you let them sink the sp floats down evenly not head first. these are great for around pylons and structure etc. retrieve is basic : 1. cast and then let sp sink while watching slack line on top of water. 2. when sp on bottom, a slow soft tap of the rod tip sideways twice and then let sink. I do this for about 4 goes and then give it a slow slow retrieve like the sp ( baitfish ) is trying to slowly get going. 3. then after all of this let it drop for about 3 - 5 seconds and start all over again. I am no steve starling but this has really worked for me. one tip I read was before your cast out just cast short so you can see what you sp is doing and adjust your retrieve to suit, to my amazement the new 3" stick bait Sp from squiddgies actually really swims like a fish with some great body movement all the way through the sp, so this is how I adjusted my retrieve to get some slow swimming into it. Every fish I have hooked using this method was in the last part of the retrieve when I was slowly winding it back to the boat in a struggling swimming style.... As for flatties, mainly 1/16 jig head silver ball and 3" & 4" shads mainly berkley gulp, works a treat, nice simming action as it sinks also. retrieve is basic flattie retrieve : 1. cast and let sink to bottom 2. 3 or 4 short bounces across the bottom then a good strong flick of the tip 3. let it sink and sit for about 3- 5 seconds and start again this has been good to me also. with grubs I mainly let the tail do most of the work but if utilise the same retireves depending on depth and current. long winded but hope this adds to your success happy sp'ing cheers wd
  13. yeah agree Aron, had a good chat with one of the guys....cheers
  14. Hi all, I was out at Auburn today for work and across the road from the Mc Donalds on a cnr opposite a pub with a big sign " Live Bait" is a great little tackle shop. so ventured to have a look and there is a specials table pretty full of berkley power bait 2" minnows in a variety of colours. price = 4 packs for $10. There were also some 3" minnows in ginger beer so I grabbed 2 x 2" and 2 x 3". For $10 buck who's to argue. Plenty of stock so if you're out that way dig in, not a bad deal at all ( I reckon ) cheers WD
  15. Thanks everyone for all your help, it's good to get an insight into what everyone else is doing / using. I have heard that vanish has had these problems in the past an dthe same with fireline, so not sure. I am using a dark grey fireline and it seems good so not sure. I've started using a double uni with about 6- 7 turns on each (plenty of spit )and it pulls in really tight, so here's hoping!!!! thanks again guys really appreciate the feedback from everyone....wd
  16. well done mate , way to go for catch 'n' release of the big girl...unreal effort cheers wd
  17. Mondo it seems to be breaking right on the knot. 6lb fireline with 10lb vanish using a stern knot. 3rd time!!! Either it's the line / leader class or the know ( I think ) or thirdly and most likely me!! cheers WD ps: have watched the berkley dvd and adam rueter uses two knots the same. did that this morning ( had a quick flick before work ), no hook ups but the knot actually seems to sit a lot better.
  18. bloody hell gibbo you're a master...hey you don't have a mate by the name of Jamie Oliver at all?? Excellent tip dude, really appreciate the effort. Will let you know how I go skinning that big kingie I'm goin to land on the w/end!!! Have to have a laugh at myself.. cheers again mate WD thanks matt, yep it just seemed very quiet there on Fri arvo, I've only fished a few times and usually I have tried a bit of chook pellet as burley and then slip a hawksbury prawn down with it and 9/10 usually get a good bite but zilch. The thing is the mongrelas are probably just hanging back watching our efforts having a laugh!!! oh well when all alse fails there's always a cold beer happy fishin cheers wd
  19. Well when it was still 28 degree's at 8pm and a run in tide at 9pm, why not go for a flick. Headed down the road 10 mins to Tom Ugly's and flicked a few sp's around, 10 mins later, a nice mid iszed bream which slammed a 4" power grub ??? Nothing much after that so trekked around to the moorings, started flicking a 1/32 jig with a 2" squiddgy grub in hot tomato.....a few casts and again thump. This time no major run off just a couple of tough hard pulls at the tip with slight drag, I was certain this was a thumper bream and trying to get him out away from the moorings and wharf was not easy....long story short, after at least 5 / 7 mins I got a little over excited and ping the line lets go again.. I am obviously doing sth major wrong here as my leader not is the thing that lets go everytime, this is the 3rd episode of losing a decent fish ( personal speculation ) to a bloody knot!!! Are there any extra secrets you guys are using that I need to adopt as I have follwed a few guide lines out of rigging tips in hand books etc but this just sucks!!! Aprreciate any advice.. Cheers WD
  20. Cheers Gibbo, Never thought of filleting as I thought I would tear it apart. Sounds an awesome way to cook them, or for that any fish cooked like that. You're on for the filleting advice. I need whatever I can get in the cooking dept Cheers again mate WD
  21. Hi fellow FR's. Well hit the water Fri arvo about 5pm and headed out in the wind to anchor underneath CC bridge. Found myself a sheltered spot ( sort of ) and got stuck into it asap. With a run in tide and sun setting it felt like I was going to land myself something worth while?? Earlier in the day ( as I work near the fish markets ) I bought a couple of fresh slimey mack's, so these were destined for bait. Used a light patternoster rig and cut long strips of slimey. Plenty of takers mainly all small and medium, most of the afternoon, so becoming frustrated by this time ...Anyway baited up again and cast just on the edge of a nice eddie behind one of the pylons when whack my line peeled off a short time later I landed a dancing 50cm tailor. Light fell, I was casting just on the edge of where the bridge lights create a shadow but nothing, maybe too windy. Not too many boats out, now dark so headed in about 8.30 pm as I was out by myself and wind was picking up. Now have never kept tailor b4 so bled him straight away, dropped him into a nice cold esky with a slurry of ice and saltwater, cleaned him at ramp......had him on the BBQ the next night after keeping fresh in fridge, but my wife reported pretty average. Very bony and flesh not as nice as bream!!! I may be cooking these guys the wrong way so if you have a fool proof recipe, I'd be pleased to hear it!!!. I mainly wrapped him in foil lined with some butter garlic and lemon with a s%%%%%le of oregano and BBQ'd till flesh was just right, closer to firm..... Anyhow did not come home empty handed and will hope luck is better next time out. Have read varying reports on fishing under CC bridge not sure what the opinion is of how good a spot or what really to target..so appreciate your views Ok cheers until next time WD
  22. From past expereinces, if you're not on the water by 6am in the hacking it's basically mayhem. Sunday summer afternoon's at Dolans Bay ramp is like an ice bar in a heat wave, hopeless and crazy!!! Particularly when the jet skiers that kick them over right next to you and drown you in a jetstream of water out of their exhaust. Anyway hope you have better luck next outing. Not sure what is going on, but the fishing in both the hacking and the bay seems to be slow and from the reports I'm reading it seems you guy;s are the same, that both spots are overrun with small reds and pickers!!!! Any ideas as to why, is it season, temperature, moon??? Would be appreciative for any indication. Cheers WD
  23. Hi all, feelings are very mutual. Went for a late fish of Lilli Pilli wharf the other night, and two blokes x and y did the same, I just wanted to say them stop taking small fish that you can't really bloody enjoy!!! I had the shits big time, so I was flicking sp's around and a few times deliberately got myself tangled up with them just to give them the shits. Absolute low life bludgers that just take for no reason,,,,!! Anyhow thanks for the mobile I will get the local port hkng number and store it so these moorons can start to understand the meaning of sustainability. o/out wd
  24. cheers BB, good to hear you're pulling up snapper on sp's. I was thinking of trying them at the time though with a bucket full of nippers, well why not have a go and see what happens. cheers mate better luck next time out.. catch ya wd
  25. Hi Bob, I scored a free DVD on Berkley Gulp Sps and others...The gulps are a water based product so they say to keep them cool out of the sun and moist other wise they're not going to do the job for you. On this dvd, the guy actually carries a cooler bag with some ice packs in it to keep his sp's soft... Hope this helps mate... Cheers WD
