  2. Hi All ,we are off to Windang on friday for a weeks fishing and chillin out, new regs means the tinny will stay at home, till i get some rego sorted. we are in the park, look for a 'tin' caravan on the lake side (you won't mistake it) if you want to say hello and part with some advice in exchange for a beer. Anyone going out in a boat and would like company, we're keen to join. see ya then...John and Jackie
  3. unregistered trailer on the road is asking for demerits and surgical removal of the wallet contents. you can get a permit from the RTA i think, but if the seller gets them registered, then you know it's roadworthy, and not shonky. CYA at all times.Johnno
  4. Er, thank you, it,s a bit like canada at the moment, rake back the snow, drill a hole in the ice and drop a line in..........Johnno
  5. Oh you bewdy, shame the moon's wrong last week in october when we are there, still give it a try tho....Johnno and jackie
  6. Ah I missed the earlier i fish, only seen Paul solo, I think to enjoy Hookline requires a particular sense of humour , still i bet a lot of the 'raiders were brought up on Rex
  7. touchy topic maybe, but here goes. Rex Hunt, now put his bad publicity/foolishness aside for a while, ignore it, it is not the topic. But, how does his programmes compare with the current shoal of fishing programmes. personally i find the current bunch, lacking, more of a 'look at me i'm catching fish and getting paid for it' rather than the Rex instructional 'this is fabulous fun and this is how you do it'. I think Rex should make a come back. Now, Jackie and i migrated to Australia 6 years ago, and the major inspiration for our initial holiday and subsequent epic move, was watching Rex, and Bush Tucker Man on the satelite tv. Rex made fishing look awesome fun, and Les made the bush and bushcraft look amazing, both were spot on, and huge ambassadors for Australia. it has taken some time for us to get on our feet, and I became interested in prospecting, fishing taking a back seat for a while, but now it is dusted down and firmly on the front seat. I'm just interested in rex's fishing adventures, and what influence he had on the fishing scene.
  8. Welcome to Australia Steve, you've come to an amazing place
  9. Yes we had a feast of tommies and garfish, tommies are a bit small, one bite in a fillet and quite strong flavoured, but nice. we added flattie, squid and razorfish to our diet too. the jetty pictured is at Haslam SA north of Streaky Bay. we will be fileing reports when we get to Windang, and check fishraider often to see what is biting there. we will probably be too early for the prawns and the moon will be full anyway, but at least we will be fishin!
  10. i will get the hang of attachments, Jackie the newbie enjoying!
  11. Mongo's post promped me to tell of my own recent experience. My missus, Jackie, had never fished and wasn't interested either, this was to change. Earlier this year we were on a caravan tour of SA, and stayed at Port Neil for a week. I convinced her to come out of the comfort of the van and onto the Jetty whilst i fished, she declined the offer of a rod. So I asked her to hold my rod whilst I set up a second one (sneaky eh) I took my time. Suddenly she squealed 'theres somthing on the rod' and made to pass it back to me, i said 'well wind the bl**y thing in then, turn the handle'! she squealed and wound it in, landing a Tommy Rough, her face was a picture, excitement and wonder, she asked me to take it off and bait up so she could catch another (eh?) I have never seen her so excited, laughing and gleeful. she landed 12 in the next hour before they went off the bite, i got 2 because i was busy unhooking a, baiting and showing her how a rod worked, and how to cast. we were down the Jetty fishing every day for the rest of the week, Jackie mixed up the berley every night so she could take me fishing early each day. the rest of the holiday was spent looking for ports with Jetties, or easy rocks to fish off as we added to her species list (I was recovering from neck surgery, so couldn't get to the spots i usually would) When we returned home, we fished the local resivoir, but she complains it is dull compared to the sea. we are of to Windang in our vintage caravan in a couple of weeks, for a weeks fishing, we're bringing the tinny. WE are looking forward to it, SHE has started mixing berley already.........
  12. well done, I don't think there is anything to beat the smile of your first fish. My missus reluctantly caught her first earlier this year, a little tommy ruff, I couldn't get the grin of her face with a mallet, pricless. she went on to catch gar, small mullet, trumpet and a small salmon, and can't get enough now. Keep wettin the lines!
