  1. most locals go to burrendong dam out near stuart town, or wyangla. long point is ok but not a lot of access available otherwise. believe me when i say YOU WILL CATCH CARP yellas, redfin, cod
  2. if you fall in without a lifejacket, the 12 year old kid with one on, can jump in and save you, and then you both can watch the empty boat drift away into the distance... ... my view is everyone should wear a PFD, the inflatable ones are not bulky and uncumfortable like the older solid fill ones. have you/ anyone ever tried to swim instantly whilst fully clothed with shoes on and coughing your guts up? or with concussion from hitting the side on the way over? or diving down in 300 mtrs to pull your mate off the bottom for a bit of resuss. Also have a thought for the emergency services who have to pluck bodies from the sea, not a pleasant job, and the grieveing families, and bad publicity. Notice you how don't get on the news by floating safley, till rescued, in a PFD, only when you have rigourmortice. Maybe if the PFD makers styled them to look cool and trendy they would be more popular, like sponsor fishing shirts, or cyclists and lycra. The tv fishing shows don't help, with the hosts often not wearing PFDs, when, whilst they don't have to, they could set an example. winge over
  3. put me off swimming though, i might get my toes sucked
  4. and do the reverse to get the sinker back off
  5. Hey mate, if your a newbie, have a look at the top of the page on the links bar under Articles some good stuff there that may help, helped me along a bit good luck and keep trying
  6. Bet you needed a beer after such an epic fight
  7. oh dam, this don't look right, where's the instruction book
  8. news clip says they were crossing a dangerous sand bar, and showed a manditory lifejacket sign by the water, but you never know with the media. i have posted before that my father was a volenteer coastguard in the uk as well as a comercial fisherman and comercial diver, pulled a dozen or more bodies in over the years, not a lifejacket between them. so senseless and sad
  9. not wearing a lifejacket LIFE-jacket
  10. we will be trying to sell our caravan so we can buy a boat to fish from, it's a rebuilt 1956 10'6 carapark 2 berth. Johnno and Jackie
  11. probably those 'less responsable' boaters making loads of noise in the middle of the night whilst launching or retrieving, slamming eskys, car doors shouting directions, reving motors, litter, is there a washdown area? flushing motors. it all seems louder at night. I assume us 'raiders' would go about our business as quietly as possible. thoughts, if there was an emergency, a locked gate could cost a life
  12. note to self, dig prawn lamp out of shed and fix it and rescue prawn net from fruit bush, buy tartar sauce.......
  13. better not be too soon,we where making a trip out of sunday, used 3 days holiday to fish Thursday to monday all blown now, along with the budget
  14. A brass and stainless ball valve from a plumbers merchant sounds the go, they are usually threaded BSP female, and you can mix n match fittings to suit your hose size and to your tank. they operate by a lever, which helps when you got slime and guts on your hands after a good day!...............regards Johnno
  15. Yes the wrist bands work exceptionally well on some people, my missus used them when recovering from surgery, and when flying and her sister, who would chuck at 15km in a car, tried them and traveled 330 km by car then 3 hours by ferry, before she noticed she ain't chucked, and didn't so they are an option. And they don't affect 'fittness for work' or 'fitness to drive/skipper' issues either, as certainly in the mining industry, we are subject to medication declarations and drugs testing........Regards.johnno
  16. or we could rig up a birthing pool on the beach?
  17. And....once you have found you storage solution, don't forget to rinse your gear in fresh water and dry it before you store it, or you will have a storage box full of rust lol
  18. Oh Maan, I got my gal interested in fishing, she went from zero interest to hero on her first bite. if you can get her interested, it makes life sooooo much easier. the thing that held her back was the bordom, often giving up in disgust before catching anything ' i don't know what you blokes see in this fishing lark' sort of thing. all changed when she caught her first fish though, no stopping her now! loves the rush of a catch, and the feast after. she saw a decent Snapper on one of the TV shows, and wants to catch one, a big one......don't we all
  19. Bass point is ok in the winter when it isn,t crowded, but it can be hell in the summer, with whole extendeed families setting tents up and, just like you said, you need to grease your shoulders to get in the line on the rocks. another hazard there is the use of 'Tonga' rigs, 4 oz weighted float with a heavy 3 meter leader onto a no5 in a plastic squid, just right for ripping an ear off in the casting frenzy. the seaward end of the ledge is prone to rogue waves, copping it every 10 minutes or so, so avoid it, there is no-one fishing there for a reason!, i believe the other side of the peninsular is a marine park with no fishing? week days non holiday times it gets a bit quieter. there are picnic shelters and dunnies out there which is a plus. often a queue at the gates in the morning peak times. occasional thieves in the carpark too. often a fisho will go there, and if the fish are on, will text out and a dozen mates will appear quicksmart
  20. d yknow, it tows so light you wouldn't believe there was a boat on the trailer
