  1. dammit that GPS goes back to the dealer tomorrow.
  2. Awesome trip and report , it reminds me of when I did the Sydney Rovers trail from Batchs Camp (near shooters hill, south of Oberon)to the Kowmung River Via Lannigans Creek, and back, once, prospecting March 98. There and back in a day, (legs still hurt ). often thought of doing it again and reconned on 3 people to make it work, for a week, cutting out the duplicate gear, and having some disposables. walk 3 Ks, then 600mtr scrabbling steep decent into the creek then 6 more ks, great going in, horrendous coming back . i think there are better routes to get there along fire trails, and i wouldn't like to leave a vehicle unattended out there, best be dropped off and collected. dunno if there are any fish that far up, suppose there would be, the river is quite big...hmmmm
  3. I wouldn't call the mongrels that crap the place up Fishos, they ain't worthy of that title. if you report it, it will go against fisho's, If it was up to me, i would organise a few fisho mates and have a clean up and fish day, i have cleaned up spots on the local rivers, we have had nice areas closed to the public out here (central west) beacuse of litter hoons ......pirate
  4. Just checked, you can now do your vessel rego and boat licience renewal at the RTA .......pirate
  5. yep, that 'ud do it, but you could fish and watch the birth on an i phone, that 'ud do it more. no contest really, welcome another fisho into the world pirate
  6. aww maaan...awesome.. we couldn't move the bay social to out there now could we, not without a flotilla anyway, and nowhere to stand the barbie tent lol pirate
  7. We caught one of those damn terns beach fishing a couple of weeks ago at Windang, he jumped on the pilli, just as i cast into the surf, (heaaaavy cast) the botton gang hook slipped inside his leg tag ring. not a happy bird, struggled and bit me the little s***, but got him off eventually. made the though
  8. so, we look for a very shiney boat, with a huuuuge grinning face in it, n that'll be you? better watch the cold breeze don't freeze your teeth eh? lol
  9. Thank for that,Zook2001, we'll look it up
  10. good on ya mate, bet you're stoked, giz a rubberneck at the boat Pirate
  11. yep sure does. A tecnicallity, as the boat trailer was hitched to the vehicle at the time, it was covered on the car insurance, which was extended to cover the boat in transit, hitched up = in transit, just like it was robbed at a servo or a supermarket car park. it is worth paying attention to your insurance details. maybe someone could come up with a boat tarp with a steel wire mesh within and a padlockable steel draw cord? Pirate
  12. Workmates of mine went to QLD to a fishing comp, earlier this year, and stayed in a public caravan/camping park, high season, they loaded all their gear in the boat and tarped it up ready for an early start home the next morning after the comp. When they got home and untied the tarp............empty, some low life must have seen them loading and cleaned them out in the middle of the night, and tied the tarp back just as it was found. about $5K of good quality rods, reels, lures, tackle boxes, eskys, boat gear, fishfinder, zoo mags, the lot. The park was pretty well empty by the time the loss was discovered and reported, and the snakes bum scumbags long gone. It was, in hindsight, a stupid thing leave to the gear there overnight, but no-one thought...... It was a struggle, but the insurance did eventually pay up. you never know who's watching, and scheming. Take care.......pirate
  13. Keel haul him! though it may be cruel to barnicles to be that close to S#*&

  15. and a surf popper upline from the pilli seems to work well too have fun, pirate
  16. I have a very early 7.5 HP honda outboard, 4 stroke twin. These had a reputation of having a really crap gearbox, and mine came with a bust one. after getting a rare second hand box and, with new bearings and seal, fitting it, on my first outing there was poor power and hideous vibration and I thought u oh, yep, crap gearbox. whilst I was messing with it one day, I found the cause..the 2 blade prop, it had a square leading edge as standard, and the vibrations and cavitation and shock waves it would create would wreck any gearbox. I had a look at another prop, and replicated the leading edge on the Honda prop with a grinder,(carefully, i am a fitter) and the motor was transformed to a 'you beaut', smooth, loads more power, excellent fuel consumption, nothing wrong with the gearbox at all. it gets me at 110kg (all muscle, but relaxed at present), on the plane in my 3.4 mtr dehavilland speed topper tinny, loaded with gear. so yes, even the best manufacturers can get things wrong, and create a lemon now and again, especially in their early days, all it takes is one dud part. And if you make a dud, the stink lingers. For example, the bloke who gave me the Honda, was at one time a Honda dealer, and he said 'never again', and bought Evinrude thereafter. nothing wrong with Honda these days, and probably was not in the following years model of the 'B75', which amongst other things had a new 3 blade prop without square edges, but the reputation had been damaged, 20 or 30 years later he still wouldn't poke them with a stick and bagged them out at every opportunity!, he loved the motorbikes though! so yes bagging mercury may be a reflection of past reputation, not recent reputation, cheers, Pirate
  17. My father was a professional lobster and salmon fisherman in the uk and always used Evinrude, 8 -10 hours a day 6 days a week, and we used to hate mercury with a passion because the only other licenced fisherman in the area used one on his boat and had been caught poaching my fathers creels , so as kids, we hated him , his boat, his outboard, his dog,the makeof his car, his kids at school etc etc, but his mercury always ran fine, but he was just a git, so it was personal. There is a catch, my father used to wear out an evinrude motor a year, dispite carefull maintenance, and it turned out to be his choice of two stroke oil, a well known and respectable brand (this was the 60's and 70's) until someone suggested he change to 'quicksilver' two stroke oil, mercury's own brand, after which his evinrude's lasted more than two years . the boat was permanantly in the water, and the evirude motor never flushed with fresh water. It only let him down once, only because it wouldn't run with a net on the prop and the boat submerged in 4 metres. he thought he had lost the outboard when the boat was raised,as the transom bracket was broke, but it was hanging on the safety chain, so he could recover it for the insurance ! nothing wrong with mercury though, they were the 'big two' in the 70's, nothing between them just anicdotal. But don't skimp on your lube, or consumables, especially if you are going 'offshore' cheers, Pirate
  18. Any chance we could make it a fishing swop meet as well, i could do with some decent gear, and get rid of some crap less used stuff.....just a thought
  19. anywhere we can stay in our campervan around there? johnno and jackie
  20. would these electric eels be a good source of green energy have a couple in a tank connected up to an eelectric outboard 10 km to the pillie and a snack at the end of the trip Johnno sorry that was a shocking joke Hm ....a grid connect electric eel farm, could be onto something (or could be on something)
  21. hmmm something to think about when i sink further into decrepitude. when i was on weight restrictions of 2kg, the doc said if the fish felt like it would be over 2kg, i had to get the missus to wind it in i said 'yer right defo on that' 2 out of 3 aint bad, got the beanie, got the camera, aw nuts, no fish for cotm (yet) Johnno
  22. I have a bad neck injury, all bolted up, this has left me with some nerve damage that has weakened my arms and shoulders. i have thought about electric reels, but first i got to get a decent boat, second, sadly i have to actually manage to catch something over 2 kilos that can fight, and test my shoulders, before i think about it again. I know I would not be able to 'wrestle sea serpents up from the abys' winching them is a good second option though. about an hour hard casting and fast retrieving off bass point tongan style, finished me off for a day and i struggled with a 3 kilo bonito off there. Johnno
  23. yeah should be good weather permiting, missus is keen too, we will have to research the area as we will be landbased,we may bring our PFD's incase there is room on a boat though lol
