    Motor up or down

This topic has come up before. I know Huey from Huetts gave a good answer, but I cant find that thread. As far as I remember, Huey said that leaving the motor up is ok in Australian conditions. In colder climates such as where it freezes, then it could be a problem leaving it up as the contents may freeze in an unfortunate position and crack the case. Theres no harm in leaving it down though (unless you forget to bring it up before you drive off!). I think its a good point leaving it down for the sake of the seals and security. I might take that advice. fryboy
  4. So cruel to make us look at that on this grey, boring sydney day! Awesome kings! Thanks for the report Fryboy
  5. Good point about the grapnel anchor. So I wonder if anyone can step up with the retracting or folding tines for a reef pick!

    Engine weight

Sorry, here is the link to the evinrude operators guides http://www.operatorsguides.brp.com/Index.aspx?lang=E&s1=c810fc95-2e20-4b32-b819-754c4139af26

    Engine weight

Youd have to look up the model number and get the handbook for an exact weight. A now model 90HP etec is 150kg. fryboy
  8. Palm Beach...? You can hire boats there (PM sent with the name of the hire place) and enjoy the relatively calm waters of Pittwater.. Weekend weather isnt looking great though!
  9. having lost an anchor recently, I've done a bit of research. The result (in my opinion) is that multiple anchors are required (unfortunately). When I recently lost my sand anchor on reef, I had the cable tie method in place, and I'm confident that the tie broke (115hp vs cable tie wins!) but that damn anchor just wouldnt come. Cooper anchors look great, but at $129, I'd be too worried putting it down on a reef, even though they recommend the cable tie method and suggest that this will get it off anything. I cant afford to lose that. So what I reckon we need is some very smart fishraider to come up with a retractable reef anchor, where the tines retract back into the shaft when not in use. That would make them easy to store away, so that I dont catch my shins/knees/fishing line/rod on it every time I turn around. I've seen small grapple hook anchors around for yaks, but only up to around 5 pounds, maybe just a bigger version?? fryboy
  10. Yeah, thanks for taking the time. Really appreciate it. Fryboy
  11. thanks for the replies and PM's guys. Fryboy
  12. Hi there, theres a great thread here http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=29015&hl=Fisheries with good advice on what to do if you see people keeping undersize. thanks for the report Fryboy
  13. Regarding keeping receipts - I learned the hard way recently that it pays to photocopy them! The paper that most registers spit out as a receipt these days does not hold the printing well over time, so you may find in a few years you have a nice blank piece of paper! Fryboy
  14. Hi, I keep my boat off the street, but visible from the street. Unfortunately nothing I can do about a location change. Its fully covered with a really good custom cover that needs a fair bit of undoing. Its got a hitch lock and a wheel clamp on it too. I take most valuable things out of the boat when not in use. However, I'm keen to up the ante on the security and saw on one forum someone had "a remote controlled motion detector alarm with piezo siren " This sounds like a good idea - I'd mount it somewhere under the cover, so if some &*&*^$ got under there either me or the neighbours would be out there fast. Would be even better if I can find one to run off 12 volt. Does anyone have any recomendations? thanks Fryboy
  15. I'm voting for exciting... I'm out early tomorrow...
  16. I was out walking yesterday and saw 13 boats on the north side of Longy!!!
  17. thats a great story and photo! Congratulations...!
  18. Just had a look at those things on the internet - wow - they are expensive!!
  19. thanks! Hard to understand how that could happen. Each ramp at rowland reserve is 4 lanes wide! Must have been distracted or just not paying attention. If it was a busy saturday I'd understand, but I can imagine that there would have been very few people there on a Monday arvo - so no need to be close to the edge! Poor bugger. Wonder if insurance will cover it.
  20. I heard on 702 radio that someone put their 4wd in the water whilst launching at 'a northern beaches ramp' yesterday. Searched the news, but couldnt find anything about it. Anyone know anything? Fryboy
  21. Just got to say it - you must be a very good guy. Well done for probably saving a life.
  22. Hi I dont think you have to risk anything to park on the street. Just disconnect the trailer from the car when you park it. That should get you out of the 7.5m restriction(but lock the trailer!) fryboy
  23. Slink's post made me check the website, and there sure is already a specific Sticker for Rowland reserve. I'lll be getting one of these babies as soon as I can get down there. I reckon $168 for a years worth of parking there is ok. http://www.pittwater.nsw.gov.au/local_services/parking/parking_permits/rowland_reserve_parking_permit
  24. Hey Slink, Is there already a sticker for Rowland reserve? I'm a pittwater resident, and the pittwater permits we get with the rates are specifically not usable at Rowland..... So please dont buy a standard pittwater sticker with the intention of using it for the Rowland boat ramp... But do let me know if there is a sticker available for Rowland...
