  1. I'm also happy to pay for the use of the ramp at Bayview. I mean its in good condition, good clean down areas etc. However, I do feel that the high parking fees deter the regular users. I paid about $20 for 4am to 4pm on Sunday. I think there used to be a $15 cap but that seems to have gone. If I was doing that once a month that would be ok, but i'm using it a few times a month so it adds up to what I consider too much. I've written to council to suggest they implement a yearly pass for Rowland reserve. I'd be happy to pay say $150 per year to use the ramp.
  2. Whats the fine actually for, it should say on the ticket? Suspect its for parking a vehicle that is too long on the street? The current restrictions say that you cant park anything longer than 4.5m (I think) on the street. The way around this is to disconnect the trailer once you have parked it. Fryboy
  3. Love it! Smile on your daughters face says it all...
  4. We saw those whales jumping, were you the boats right near them? We were out about a k further and could see them pretty well. Spectacular....! Did anyone else come across the teddy bear?? Strangest thing, about 2k off barrenjoey in the middle of nowhere a huge brown teddy bear floating in the water!
  5. I heard it was in one of the shark nets, which explains the publicity about 'catching' a protected species..
  6. Knowing what it costs for a good prop, I feel for you mate. I've bought a prop lock for my Solas 4 blade. The prop was about 600 bucks, so I thought the extra 120 was worth it for a good lock. I can recommend these: http://www.mcgard.com/MarineProducts/PropellerLocks fryboy
  7. Hey mate, I was out there on Sunday AM too, but got nothing. Theres a forum here dedicated for GPS mark - under Boating section... Try this http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=22536 cheers Fryboy
  8. Hi, A while ago, I decided i'd like to be a 'serious' fisherman. I bought a great little boat about a year ago and have been seriously trying for good fish ever since. I've been a studious follower on FR , reading all the articles and following the fishing reports trying to glean any information at all times. I get out about once or twice a month, more in summer. I've spent thousands of dollars on gear and getting my boat in good order (dont ask me about the trailer....). Ive got up at 2, 3, 4am to go fishing whilst minimising the impact on the family. I've taken fellow FR's out on the boat to try and learn the tricks (thanks Framed Trash) I've talked to tons of guys at the ramp or on FR or wherever to get all the info. I've learnt to catch bait and keep it alive. I thought i've done it all... To date: My score is zero. I have not caught one fish that I consider 'take home worthy'. There was one 63cm Kingfish, a few salmon and bonito. Otherwise, nada. Nichts, nought, nothing. I'm really starting to think that the boat is cursed ? Wonder if fellow FR's could have a read of my tactics and see if you can spot whats going on.... I wonder if there is something really simple that I am doing wrong, or is this a normal experience? I mean, I wouldnt mind if it was a one off, but this is a very usual situation for me... How can I change my luck?? I'm targeting Kingfish and Snapper. I'm northern beaches based, so I'm usually out from Bayview, but have tried the harbour. On Sunday this was the report: Launch Bayview at 4am. Collected half a dozen yellowtail and a couple of sweep at West Head - took longer than I hoped, so didnt get away from there until around 5.30. Headed out to Valiant wreck. Now, here maybe an issue - I can never find any what you would call 'structure' at the GPS marks i've got (mostly from FR). I guess I'm in the right place, cause for example on Sunday there was another boat right where my GPS took me. I couldnt see anything more than a few maybe 1-2m bumps at the bottom. Couldnt see any fish either, but thought we'd have a crack. Anchor up. Send out some burley (pillies, tuna oil and some of that packet burley mix - all mashed up). Put one Yellowtail out the front on an unweighted livebait rig, letting the fish swim to a depth of approx 15m (in around 20m of water). Then mate and I fishing out the back - rod each with paternoster rig, two hooks each, baited up with pilly and/or slimy mackeral (bought). Wait. Nothing. Give it about half an hour. Other boat departs, we do the same. Head to another mark a couple of miles south. Again, nothing more than a few bumps on the sounder, but a bit of a rise in depth from 30m to around 25m, like a little plateau. Try again for about an hour. Same setup, same burley, except this time two livies out the front, one about 15m down and the other weighted nearer the bottom. This time we caught one green eel. Made a complete mess of the gear and had to cut it free. Otherwise nothing. Head off. Decided to do some trolling. Put one yellowtail aboout 3m deep on the downrigger and one lure out the back and troll along the walls around Whale Beach/Palm beach for an hour. Not a thing! Change strategy again and anchor up at one point about 40m off the wall in about 10m of water and a bit of structure seen on the bottom. Can also see lots of bait on the sounder. Again put out a couple of unweighted livies and go again with the snapper rigs fishing thrown in towards the wall. Manage about 3-4 rock cod (I think thats what they are) and a smallish trevally. Livebaits not touched. Decide to head off. Couldnt get anchor up - had to cut it free - another 40 dollar donation to the fishing gods. Oh, and my mate lost my pliers over the side whilst de-hooking a cod, so add another 10 bucks... Troll back to Pittwater all along the walls and Barrenjoey with one livie on the downrigger and a lure. Nothing. Not a touch. really appreciate any advice or encouragement! thanks Fryboy
  9. yeah, I've got a similar recipe. Get a big pot and fill it with water and add a couple of handfuls of blue metal (gravel) Add the salmon fillets and any herbs and spices you desire and boil. When the blue metal is tender, give the salmon to the cat and eat the gravel. haha. I've heard that its not too bad smoked. Some even say that if you cut the bloodlines out of it its good fresh. Would be a good masterchef elimination challenge - to prepare an Australian Salmon dish... All I know is they are heaps of fun to catch. fryboy
  10. Great story, and good on you for spilling it to the FR community! My theory is that there are two types of boaties: 1. The guys who have forgotten to put the bungs in at some time or another 2. The guys who havent forgotten to put the bungs in - yet! Gotta agree about the swimming lessons. Just for interest I went fishing with 'Framed trash' a couple of months ago - hes a very experienced fisho - and he went overboard off my boat at 4am in the harbour due to a slip.. You just never expect it. About the public speaking - its funny that 90% of people rate public speaking as their worst fear, even worse than death. Which if you put it into practical terms, 90% of people at a funeral would rather be in the box than giving the Eulogy! Look into Toastmasters if you want to tackle that issue... Fryboy
  11. Hi all, thanks for your responses.... Sorry but the position is now filled!! cheers Fryboy
  12. Sorry, position is now filled. thanks Fryboy.. Hi all, I've found myself with the day off tomorrow - free as a bird. I'd like to hit middle harbour/harbour heads early morning trying for some kings. I have the boat and the equipment, but no company. I'd like to get someone on board who can show me a thing or two about catching Kings in the harbour. Anyone keen? I'd be up for a 2, 3, 4am start for some livies then get into it.. Launching from Roseville Its a free ride, I'll be going anyway, so no cost to you (except sharing your skill...) I've got: Quintrex 5.5 freedom sport with depth sounder, downrigger good lights setup and a fair bit of gear. PM me if keen, or call me 0409 944924 cheers Fryboy
  13. Awesome king, and great description of how to do it on your own!
  14. Was out on pwater yesterday - warm water, huge swells and no kings! Managed a couple of bonito and a tailor.
  15. Hi all, On Sunday, weather permitting, I'd like to put the boat in at Bayview and pick up my brother in law from Killcare/hardys bay on the central coast then head out for some fishing. It will be my first time going in there. I plan to follow the channel on the east side of the bay ( past Box head, little box head, lobster beach etc.) and just follow the channel markers around. Can anyone advise me if there is anything I should be looking out for? thanks for your advice. Fryboy
  16. Hi Tuffy, Dont know about workshops, but they do 'emulators' which you can download onto your PC and play around with. I note that the HDS 7 doesnt yet have an emulator, but maybe one of the other ones is a close match and you could try that...? On a happier note, I see that they have one for my x102c, so I'm downloading that for myself! http://www.lowrance.com.au/apac/Downloads/Product-Emulators/ cheers Fryboy
  17. I was going to send a funny reply saying that you need to put the money in the bank until it grows up to a real boat....! You may also need to work on the girlfriend a bit, cause in my experience if you can get them to even just like it, you are doing real well! But I saw one on an online auction that would suit. PM sent Fryboy
  18. I agree with Days fishing - the harbour and especially middle harbour is very clean. I'd have taken that lizard home and gobbled it. fryboy
  19. Great stuff Maiders. You make me jealous for my first king. The measurement in NSW is to the tip of the tail, not the fork. Fryboy
  20. Congratulations on the first King off the yak. Great report! Glad to know they are there, I'll be back out there on Saturday....
  21. Just out of interest, how did you then get the boat and trailer home? Fryboy
  22. ahaaaa. Welcome to the forum Glenn. Mate, there could be better adventures next time. Fryboy
