  1. Beautiful red , well done! What was the swell like there this morning? Judging by the photo it looks a lot less than the 1.5 - 2m predicted on BOM.
  2. Nice story and well done. That's a pretty good flatty to break your sp cherry. My first few sp flatties were all under 20cm haha.
  3. Looks like you were well rewarded for your persistance! Great eating fish the hairtail.
  4. That's a massive haul, would have been great fun! What were you mainly using as bait?
  5. That's a nice fish, well done! Are the reds still there in summer or do they move on?
  6. One of the regulars that I used to fish with at a pier bought a brand new reel only to see it get pulled over the edge by a fish after he forgot to set the drag. First bite that the reel had ever experienced and it went straight over the side into the water haha. About 2 hours later someone further along the pier hooked up onto his fishing rod/reel but was having trouble lifting it up onto the pier. The guy who lost the reel proceeded to jump straight into the water to make sure he didn't lose it again and he couldn't even swim haha! Luckily for him there was a pontoon close by so it all turned out well in the end.
  7. Nice fish. What did you use as bait? Livies, Jigs?
  8. Nice report. That's a great effort considering the weather, all nighter as well!
  9. 1oz - 2oz jig heads will get your soft placcy down to the bottom, but it also depends a lot on the current. Also, I regularly run into leatherjackets at the Peak and they'll shred the SP before it even hits the bottom
  10. Where are you planning on getting the kingy lb? At the same spot in your report? If so, you definately have a good chance of hooking up onto a kingy there. Actually landing the fish is another matter though haha
  11. Nice report. That's a good spot for the family. My young son caught his first ever fish there haha. I've found the best time for Kingies there is just after sunrise, with live squid usually the best bait.
  12. Nice work landing that beauty, on 6lb mono too! What was the length of the big one?
  13. Nice work. What bait did the damage or were you using soft plastics?
  14. That's a nice haul, gotta be happy with that. Wish my old freezer bait could be converted into a feed like that!
  15. Personally I find yakkas too fiddly too eat but I have friends who just love eating them deep fried or even sashimi'd. Keep an eye out for the doctors they sometimes carry in their mouths. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Tapatalk 2
  16. Good result and thanks for the recipe. Will be sure to give it a go!
  17. Funnily enough, I get most of my Snappers on the drop. If the plastic does reach the bottom, I will give it a few flicks and then let it rest for a little while, letting the rocking boat do the action. If still nothing, wind it up a bit then let it drop again. Also as you probably know, a certain type/colour plastic which works one trip may not work the next so I like to keep trying different varieties until I do get a hit.
  18. Hahaha that's hilarious! The guy was so shocked, his arms are frozen in mid-air. Yeah, i'd be livid if that happened to me though
  19. Just read up on them and yes, they do appear to be protected in Australia, except in Tasmania where they're harvested at certain times. Quite amazing how far these birds migrate. We had one hang around our boat a couple of weeks ago. Would've fed him some pillies had I known it had just flown all the way from North America
  20. Grats, that's a great fish! How deep did you get that one in if you don't mind me asking?
  21. I didn't have any problems with mutton birds or jackets last weekend. Was outside near Port Hacking.
  22. Grats, that's an awesome first kingy. You'll remember it for a while Hopefully its just the start to a top kingy season.
  23. Fished mainly in the Royal National Park. Usually got the sambos early in the morning or late afternoon from the beach but off the rocks, got them throughout the day. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Tapatalk 2
  24. I love coming to Fishraider as its a fountain of knowledge! Learn everything from what rigs to use, how to catch certain fish, where to go, what to be careful of and identifying what that strange fish I caught was! Countless times I've googled a question and its lead me to a Fishraider post Also love reading about other people's fishing experiences. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Tapatalk 2
  25. Really? I used to catch a lot more sambo's off the beach in the summer than in the colder months.
