Hi everyone,
I fished Botany bay with my two sons and a mate of mine last weekend.
We set out early morn looking for yakkas at a couple of spots that usually hold them. All we could tease up
were baby sweep . Tried a couple of spots for some live squid and ended up with 4 pretty quickly. We noticed
that there were bream swimming around our boat at this stage, so we changed over to some baited hooks using
peeled prawns, pillie cubes and chicken breast rolled in parmesan cheese. We spent the next few hours catching
bream, snapper the odd flatty and tarwhine. There were lots of undersize throwback fish mixed in with the legal fish
which kept us busy. When we had enough to feed everyone we decided to pull up stumps and go downrig our squid
at the usual kingy haunts. As I was retrieving one of the rods that we had left unattended, I noticed a good weight on
it and some head shakes. Then this fish started taking some drag, but was subdued fairly easily. Up came a 70cm
Flatty. After the half dozen little ones we returned to the sea, this one was a welcome sight.
We downrigged for a couple of hours along the Botany southern headland and all the usual shipping markers
in the bay but nothing took a liking to our squid, so they came home with us and ended up in the pan that night with
a few fish. The rest of our catch was devided up and eaten the following day by our families.
Here's a few pics.
