  1. Hi Big Neil, I have been using a bread fly. From what the local tackle store explained, there are 2 types. Dear hair and woolen ones. I caught the carp on the dear hair bread fly.
  2. Thanks for the comments guys, Luc - Definately mate. ill start getting more flies and lets hit the streams. Cant wait to start chasing some bass now, we scoped out some awesome looking places along the nepean, cant wait to give them a crack. Any fly suggestions for bass, other than poppers?
  3. Hi Raiders, Finally yesterday arvo, i caught my first fish on fly. I have been trying day after day and working really hard on my presentation, all i can say is the persistance paid off. Found a few carp tailing in the shallows and launched out a bread fly, first fish took interest, bumped it but didnt take. I represented the fly and BOOM. Caught this sucker which went approx 3kg, the biggest we've caught this season. Made some huge runs and took me to the backing on every single one of them. Heart pounding stuff on 4lb leader, thought id lose it for sure. Gear used: Nitro Innovator distance model Redington surge 6 wt 6wt FF line 4LB Tapered leader Just want to take this opportunit to thank fellow raiders Alibar, Slinky, Troutboy, Royce, Foolforjesus, Stewy for all your hints and tips. You can all have a cutlet of this carp LOL but in all seriousness, very greatful for the tips. Enjoy the read, cheers Stan
  4. Hey Matt, Its about time LOL. Nice fish buddy, your face was priceless bringing in this heathan. As for the release of carp in this lake, the drain is actually blocked off by wall of those bamboo things so should be sweet but either way they came in from there so its not like new carp are being introduced. I cant wait for a monster on 4lb, that would be fun!
  5. I had this happen to me at 12 mile. at first i didnt know it was a whale so dropped a 450gm knife jig down and started working it. the whale breached/surfaced lol never wound that jig up so fast in my life hahah
  6. Thanks Fella's Yep they are great fun on 4LB gear. SMn - I purchased them from my local tackle store, when i get home tonight ill check the brand. They come in a pack of 2, sunline also make the tapered leaders. The one I was using was that olive colour and i used a tapered 4lb. It is very very thin and it did present better because there no sinking line in front of the fly. I am absolutely no expert but i found that not aiming the rod at the water when i let go of the cast made the presentation more subtle. Instead, I let the fly go when the rod was facing the sky and the line fell in a much better line and the fly presented much better. Mate, I hope this helps. I will check the brand again tonight, im pretty sure the brand was 'todd'. Cheers,
  7. Thanks Pete! They arent easy so ive been working on my presentation. Changes to a tapered mono leader too so hopefully that helps. Cant wait to get one on the fly I will be over the moon!
  8. carp are now active in my local lake. the 2 bbelow were caught on 1000 reel with 4lb. good fun. I dropped 2 on the fly, still getting used to it but im not giving up...well not yet anyway. Cheers, Stan
  9. Hi Mate, You may have a dog run into the water and return it back to you if you use that thing LOL. When im fishing the beach, i use a mixture of bread, pilchard, tuna oil and sawdust or crumbs. mix it together and freeze little balls of it. Then you simply bury it under some shallow sand where the water can just reach. As the tide comes in, small peices will naturally wash out. Its a set and forget method and works really well for me. Also there is no mess. I hope this helps mate, Cheers.
  10. nice work Chris they are some top fish! and what a cracker day
  11. In my experience, hawkesbury can be hit n miss. Thats fishin i guess. No harm in trying other spots though mate or different techniques.
  12. I have noticed they have been shut down lately. I'd say the cold weather has something to do with it. I reckon by the time day light savings comes back around they will be everywhere.
  13. nice work scratchie! man look at the clarity of the water so awesome!
  14. Nice report mate! did you notice how much warmer the water was to the sand? salmon off the beach is awesome fun! well done
  15. Chris, im coming round for dinner so tell your kids to save me some LOL
  16. lol actually the water was alot warmer than the sand, so anytime water hit me it was a relief lol. i dont have waders so if i wore long pants and they got wet, id be in trouble lol.
  17. Mate thats an awesome combo, you will be very happy with it. As for mullet on plastics, ive seen them take z man grubz in water melon. I dont know why i think it may just be a reaction bite or something. I had one smash me when fishing for bream in a canal. Nice jewy btw!
  18. Hi Mate, I use a LED Lenser in the H7 model, i bought this one becuase its not rechargeable. I wont have any way to charge it if im out so opted for the battery model. Either way cant go wrong with LED Lenser
  19. well done mate. even at that size, check out the size of the tail. absolute predator!
  20. Thanks everyone : ) Matt, i reckon the fish must not like the odours coming off your hands when putting the bait on. I must say, i have to agree with the fish
  21. Thanks guys! Yeh she definately wasnt a monster but i reckon its a good start in figuring them out odd the beach. I have caught heaps but not off the beach or on a lure. Now only to catch one off a lure!!
  22. Thanks guys, Been flicking every week for a fish, its yet to come lol
  23. Hi Raiders, Fishingnoob (Matt) and I hit up the beach on friday to get him onto his first fish. We set up a great paternoster rig which mat hooked a plastic on the top hook and bait on the bottom. He got heaps of hits from tailor and salmon, one hook up but unfortunately dropped the fish. He keeps blaming his teacher lol. I was fishing 2 rods, both new. Bought a samaki allure 10' and a shimano aero wave 12'. Both great rods, the allure is so light. I matched that to a daiwa opus bull 6000 and 20lb power pro. I had the 12' aero wave matched to a daiwa saltist 6500. I bought some lighter braid for it but still waiting for it to arrive (had the reel originally spooled for jigging). We also picked up some of those LED Lenser head lamps. OMG they are so bright. I was afraid if i turned it all the way up, i would shoot red lasers in a cyclopse like fashion. Anyway turn of the tide, i was fishing squid on circle hooks and caught a little jewy. Not the biggest jew i caight but i have never caught one off the beach so was stoked! Also caught a salmon and a shovel nose shark, never caught one of these either they foght just like a ray. Pics arent anything special, enjoy the read. Great company Matt, we will get you that fish! Cheers, Stan
