  1. gday mate, have a look at Shimano Symetre. Im having a look at getting that for a spin outfit, I believe it a suitable reel for your setup.

have a look at this thread: CLICK HERE for raider's comments on the particular reel.

Also have a look at the shimano website for more information.

    Cheers

  2. Personally i havent fished there myself, but heard some good reports from mates and some from the forum.

The rock platform you talk about i heard is good. just watch the swell.

Out the front is good, find the gutters, Ive been down there to watch the surfers and usually they know where the deeper water is. closer to the rock platform is good. Not sure bout the south end.

  3. hi KamakaziCroat

Garie beach is a good beach, where good salmon, bream have been taken.

Have a look there, or have at the northern beaches, palm etc.

Btw im new to beach fishing too, ive only beach fished down in Culburra, and caught my first salmon! it was awesome. I picked up an outfit for about 200 bux with line. It's not the best outfit, but considering my experience with beach fishing, it was a good purchase and have confidence in taking it to any other beach.

  4. Hi Kantong

I have the shimano sienna 2500 on my 7 foot pflueger rod, it also has 8lb fireline which you mentioned you wanted to get. As for perfromance i cant really comment since ive brought the outfit ive used it only for plastics and hardbodies, and being the novice that i am i havent caught anything with it (used it 5 times) :05: so i dont know how it performs under load. However its cast line out pretty well and feels pretty smooth. One problem i do have though is that i find after i cast i have to manually click the bail arm back over, as opposed to it clicking back over itself when i turn the handle, not sure if thats a fault with my reel or if it wasnt designed to do that in the 1st place. Dont know your $$$ situation but in hindsight i probably would have gone for a symetre.

    Cheers

    gday gio

thanks for the feedback. How much would I be looking at for the symetre? I looked at the next up from the Sienna, which I believe is the Sedona, but couldn't really see much difference for the price increase.

  5. Gday raiders

in the market to buy a new spinning reel.

To match a Berkely drop shot 7 foot rod.

I had a look and I'm undecided about if I should get:

    1. Penn Applause 2000 series

    2. Shimano Sienna 2500

    3. Mitchell 2000 (can't remember the model)

the Mitchell is under 100 with extra spool, but doesnt come with the 10 yr warranty of the Shimano.

Penn has the nice thick bail arm, but its a little more expensive.

Well Shimano, can't really go wrong with it. I would love to buy all three, but the :wife: will not be impressed.

Planning to fish with 8lb Fireline.

    Any feedback would be appreacited.

    Cheers,

  6. Gday raiders,

Went out with Dont shoot da chinamen. Hit the water just after 7. We went around with Quinfish looking for fish, and caught some good sized leather jackets. Saw a pod of dolphins swimming around, so must have been some fish around. We headed to Quarantine Point and picked up some trevallies. It all went quiet and the wind started to pick up. Headed further inside to hide from the wind, but no fish.

Beautiful weather, enjoying a few beers and fish. We caught a nice feed of trevallies and leatherjackets.

Met up with CrazyJohn at the ramp on the way home, he caught a very healthy looking bonito. Good stuff.

Also saw Fishrunner out on the water. Cheers to Fishraider for connecting the local fishos around.

Photos to follow shortly. Big thanks to Dont Shoot Da Chinaman for taking me out, had a blast.

    Cheers,

    Kantong
