  1. Might as well be a beach launch.
  2. Excellent mate. Good catch. I would be lying if i said i wasnt jealous. Off Sydney? Dave
  3. Unbelievable. Maybe they are starting to jump on the lures instead of just looking at them or not even taking any notice of them. Well done
  4. Weather is not looking any good to get out this week at the moment. Hopefully the wind backs off for the weekend but doesnt look like happening. dave
  5. Top report and you are confirming my thoughts, I wish i lived in gods country. Dave
  6. There was bonito and Salmon there on Monday. Hundreds busting up. Caught 4 of each in no time on the way in from being out wide. right in that spot the you are fishing. Hundreds of birds working with them. Feeding on the smallest pilchards i have ever seen. We got them on a small metal lure and Salmon on Xrap and a small skirt. Nice port jacksons. Bad luck on the timing. I am sure you would of had a lot more action a few days earlier. Always the way hey. Dave
  7. Thanks for the report Damo. Sounds like it was a magic day out there. I bet it was frustrating with the yellow fin being so finicky though. Dave
  8. Brooker. Top effort mate. Did you get a measurement on the jew? Looks not too bad to me. And to go out with a target species and produce even if its only one when it comes to jews means you are definitly doin something right. Put it into reports. I reckon theres a few waiting to see how you went. Dave 63 cm My guess
  9. I think that area you were working last week will be were the fish will be this week. Im certainly no expert but they are pushing south i think.
  10. Gday mate. Yeh i read about this style not long ago in a magazine. Couldnt find anywhere to buy this style in shops here but didnt look too hard. Are you talking about "Maria Shore Tricker" style type jigs? I found an online store that sold them and heaps of other japanese style micro jigs. First trip out 2 weekends ago some fish came to the surface while i was catching bait, tied one of these on to a light rod and straight away they were catching bonito. Tried jigging them on a snapper ground with no luck while baited lines were catching fish. Dave
  11. Great fish, report and video. That video is gold. Dave
  12. HaHa. It was calm by the time that photo was taken. offshore I think about 45 km maybe a bit more at widest point we went to. We did 140km for the day. and worked between 250-700 fathom.
  13. After fishing off sydney 2 weeks ago and catching some small YFT and getting smoked on one big fish I had been hanging to give them another crack. Looking at the water I decided to go out bit further south off shellharbour. Ran out to our starting point in terrible conditions this morning and dropped the lures. Stripies kept us busy from the start. Got a big run on the 15kg gear with a small pre rigged skirted lure which was catching most of the stripies first off. This fish definitly not a stripy. my bad luck kicked in and pop its off. Lures still running and the rod beside me goes off. We get a decent YFT to the side of the boat and just before we grab the leader the hooks let go. So i wind the one that got busted off in and the pre rigged skirt leader connection to the hook let go. We kept at it in the same area for more stripies and finally land one more very small YFT and called it a day at 1:30 This Tuna fishing is seriously doing my head in. I think if i lose another good fish before landing one i will jump over board and let the sea take me. Dave
  14. I have the 150 four stroke. I would think you should get similar revs. I get 5500 revs flat knacker and trimed out.
  15. Hi mate. Are you sure you went past me? Was i at anchor? Yeh it was a superb day until that unexpected southerly blew up and i was out at the traps off port by that time with a 15 km run heading straight back into it. Yeh there were stripies surfacing out in 120 m too. How did you go ?
  16. Quintrex 480. They do pull hard. Very good fighting compared to other sharks. Head shakes, Screaming fast runs. They do take some stopping even on fairly heavy gear. Where you using bait? On that gear it would not suprise me if a gummy did that to you. Did you get really fast runs with some big head shakes in between runs ? Dave
  17. Great fish and a great read. Those jews have a way of showing up just when you think its all over hey. I fished the Clyde earlier this year for an all nighter with not a touch all night. Once the sun started to rise i decided it was time to start making a coffee and cook up some eggs on toast. This is in just a standard 6m half cab. So with 2 gas cookers going next minute all hell breaks lose and over a few minutes every rod gets hit by solid jews. Crazy. Dave
  18. Awesome fish mate. Wanted to go wide so bad on Saturday. I also copped that southerly that blew up that made an uncomfortable ride. Im sure that wasnt forecast. Lets hope these fin keep biting as they have been. Dave
  19. Formosan. There are alot of gummys around at the moment. The snapper trips i have done this season i have got gummys on each session. I anchor and burley for snapper and fish with bait which i think is different to your recent snapper trips using plastics and drifting ( correct me if im wrong ) ? The anchor and burley is the key to regular gummy sharks. There is also a certain depth that they hang around in at the moment which is very specific. Also they are spawning at the moment so 1 of these sharks would have normally been released only that i had 4 different people on the boat that wanted a feed for there families. I fish baits at all different depths at anchor, from the surface to the bottom. As groper mentioned the deep baits are the ones that hook the gummies. I should also ad that with talk of kingies showing up thick on the 12 mile off syd, I went out to check if they had showed up at the Traps off port kembla. Found leatherjackets too thick but found a massive bait ball of yakkas also. So probably kings there but too hard to fish with so many jackets around. Dave
  20. I had promised an In law a trip out fishing while him and his family were down from the outback. The decision was made to take him out in search of snapper and to get a feed for him to take home. With me chasing tuna for the last few months i had not been out on the snapper and reefs for a fair while and was not confident in what was around. So we launched at Shellharbour at about 7. First up we went for a bait catching session which was a bit slow but soon got him onto some trevally, yellowtail and squid. Then my brother in law started to se some fish surface so i tied on some small metal lures onto some light gear and told him to cast at them, 2nd cast and he was on. It didnt take long to get a few bonito for bait. With the high tide change being at 915 i made the decision at about 830 to move on to get ourselves anchored and a burley trail going for the tide change at a nice little snapper spot. For the first hour after anchoring it was fairly slow and the other 3 on board started to get restless and talk started saying that we need to move. I pulled rank and said we cant move now as we didnt have time to get anchored and another trail going before the change was over. Good move. Within minutes from then we experienced a good bite lasting an hour or so. First decent fish hooked i handed over to the guest and he pulled up a nice snapper.Than he hooked and landed another. Than His rod buckled over and he was in for a good fight landing a nice Gummy Shark. While i was landing that shark on one side of the boat my brother in laws rod buckles over on the other side and he is in for a good fight into another Gummy, While helping land that shark another rod buckles and the guest boats himself another snapper. This bite goes on for an hour or so and gradually became quite again. So i think i made his trip down with 2 Gummy sharks, 7 snapper Ranging from 32cm- 49cm. Not huge fish but definitly a quality catch for eating purposes. Bigger of the gummy sharks went just under 15 KG Dave Brother in law ( Rod ) with the 15kg gummy The country boy ( andy ), Rod and Me just after landing the 2nd gummy, Still alive
  21. Yes. I agree. Couldnt have put it better. Also. Not sure if they are still looking for a new booking for this saturday. If they are and you have been thinking of trying your luck on the tuna. Get out with them. Its definitly a sight to see out there at the moment. Dave
  22. Looks fancy Michael. Bet it tastes good. Will be trying hard to get out. I will be out i should say but not sure if going wide. Looks like it might of slowed down a bit today. Havnt heard anything. Dave
  23. No mate. I Wont be out. I have to work. They should still be around. They were fairly spread out on sunday. Maybe just start where you got them. If they not there, Head South. Maybe? Thats my thoughts.
  24. Nice one sluggo. How was the radio on that tide change. felt like every half a minute or less we heard hook ups and fish on. They were spread out a bit too. when you called the spot we were a few miles south and found a few schools scattered around down our way. Dave
