  1. Sounds good mate. Yeh i just read your update on the other post. Sounds like she is running like a beauty now. Good to hear you got it sorted out so you can now enjoy your time on the water instead of worrying. Yeh most boat hulls out there will perform perfect for there intended use when set up correctly. I would definitly change that lower trim pin position. Good to hear . Dave
  2. How is the boat going mate? All sorted. Steering better ?
  3. Alot of people will tell you to run crazy drag settings and say lock it up and all. I have found that the harder you go on them the harder they go on you.I run a fairly light drag compared to most because of this reason. I have found they will run and they will stop and change direction and once they start coming up just keep a gradual easy preasure on them and they will come with you for a bit, run a bit and tire out. Fish that size i reckon that yeh you probably are ripping there face off with high drag settings. If there not pulling any string back it off mate and have some fun and give em a chance. What have ya got to lose if your pulling hooks anyway. Just my opinion. Dave
  4. Steve. Just to clarify. I hope you didnt take offence to my reply as i did not mean it to sound condacending in any way. It does sound like your boat is reacting dangerously from what you are describing. And yes your right a proffessional may be the way to go. Good luck and as you said its good to have a healthy respect for the sea. Dave

    Paikea's decal

Nice one Paikea. Now when are we going to see this beauty on the water? Its been a long time coming now. Or have you given it a run already? Dave
  6. Just reading your post again. You say that that crossing the smallest of waves is causing pulling to one side and a diving effect. Being new to handling a boat and for anyone getting experience in a new boat that they are not familiar with. While crossing waves either head on or crosssing them from behind ( following sea ) always hit the wave straight head on, So cross the wave at as close to 90deg as possible in either direction wich is the safest way to cross a wave. Once you gain experince and get familiar with your boat you should become more comfortable how it will react. Dave
  7. Steve. Sounds like your having some trouble handling your boat. Its hard to say what the cause of this could be but i will tell you my thoughts. The first thing that is worth saying is that all boats no matter how big or small will be effected by waves and the water and someone new to boating may be very suprised and maybe uncomfortable how much a wave or water can throw a boat around. The boat size to motor HP sounds fine so shouldnt be a problem there. Now when you say that the boat is being pushed or pulled to one side and at the same time going for a nose dive. This sounds to me that this is happening when you are in a following sea ie, Going in the same direction of the wave, Pushing through the back of a wave and down the face? Correct me if i am wrong. If this is the case then what your boat is doing is not too un common. This is the most dangerous/temperamental time while driving. A number of things could cause this to happen worse. It sounds like you do have the motor trimmed right down pushing the nose down. Try trimming up a little bit espeically in a folloing sea. Sounds like you might have the boat loaded front heavy which is strange as alot of us boat owners are trying to load front heavy to get the nose down. Your boat being an Alloy half cab would already be putting weight forward. Think about your load and try to even it out. If it is machenical steering try making sure that your cable is free and easy to turn. Motors are hard enough to turn under power and if the machincal steering cable starts to seize up they are hard to turn. What I am getting at here is that yes your boat might take a bit of a dive one way and it may feel nearly impossible for you to pull back, If your cable is partly seized and your fighting that as well. A free cable may allow you to pull her back straght. You can also now get an anti feed back Machenical Steering cable which stops the motors natural force to be pulling more one way. Have you noticed that it is easier to turn one way than the other. ? If so its not a drama as this is natural in an outbord boat but there are some things you can do to correct/minimise this effect. I hope this helps a little? Dave
  8. I like the idea. But I think it would look best with the Whale above or below the name. Dave
  9. That is amazing. Maybe they are on the come back and will start to show themeselves at more accecible spots like this. And my bet is Tailor doing that to the livies as well. Very well known for that. Dave
  10. Have not had a touch on squid in that river. Live yakkas are the go. Easy to catch there and you should pick the odd one up and more than likely some monstor flatties as by catch This report might help http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=71724
  11. Make the short trip down to bermagui if your not confident. Easy access down there. Dave
  12. Gday Dave yes I did think of letting you know but by the time I thought of it I was just about jumping in the car to leave and just wanted to get down there. Next time I will definitly let you know. Yes the fishing was tough all weekend. I thought it would of been better as conditions were good. Maybe they got scared off by the crowds. Have you still been pulling some nice reds from those secret mark ? Dave
  13. HaHa. Yeh she enjoys it too. She wanted to land a jewie this weekend so I was hooking them up and yelling out "come on, get up, you take this one " and her reply was "no you take it, Your the one been putting in the hard work to get them." Then when we got back she helped me clean up every part of the boat and pack everything away. She has done well
  14. Me and my wife both decided we wanted to get away somewhere to do some fishing on the long weekend. My wife being 6 weeks away from the due date of our first baby we had to give outside fishing a miss and the decision was made to spend a couple of days chasing jewies on the clyde. The fishing was fairly slow during the day with finding only 3 flatties of size around the 45 cm mark. With enough livies in the tank for the first night we settled in for our first night in our favourite spot. about 1030 the tide changed to our liking and the fish came on the bite, from then until about 1 am we got a decent run of fish managing 2 at 60cm released nice and healthy and 1 just over the new 70cm mark to keep. Second day ( Aus Day ) we spent anchored up out of the way of the crowds, Catching up on sleep and a quick live bait session in the late arvo. Settled in again for another night in our spot with a change of pace from the night before. The first night we went through prob about 15 livies on the second we were not getting a hit so I called it a night and left the rods in baitrunner and with bells on them. About 5 am this morning we got our first hit of the night, with the fish still running as i got to the rod managed a good hookup and landed 1 more jew just over the 70cm again. Very relaxed weekend with some decent fish. Decent size fish to not be size. Forgot to mention these fellas stealing our livies throughout the night First keeper for the first night My wake up alarm from this morning. another keeper.
  15. Ha. Thats a fan belt, not a head gasket. Hope he didnt take your advice. The busted fan belt would of caused the over heating. Not overheating causing busted belt
  16. Well with the crew you got onboard tomorrow i dont like your chances mate.
  17. Nice Stewy. Solo missions always seem to produce. There have been plenty of bass on the bite out my way atm. You inspired me to go flick some lures Dave
  18. Paikea Out of interest. Is it a Tournament boat or the old Mustang tournament. These are the same boat but not sure if were built by the same company? Im interested because my old man has a Mustang 2250 and had a Mustang Tournament 2000 before that? Honestly cant get over the situation your finding here. Makes me want to check out this Fibreglass join in my own boat (Not tournament). It makes it really hard when they are sealed. More info on where the fault lies please. Dave
  19. Thats a great colour Xrap, my favourite. catches everything. From them to Yellowfin out wide and I even hooked up to a marlin last week on one, In the 30 feet model though. Top effort, nice king Dave
  20. I am looking into upgrading to a new sounder and transducer. All the reading on the net at the moment points to a Furuno 587 stand alone sounder with a 1 kw thru hull transducer to be the best quality for the bluewater fisherman. What are you using and what are your thoughts. Anyone running a TM260 1kw transducer. Are you getting clear readings at speed or at least trolling speed. Marking fish at trolling speed? Has anyone put a 1 kw transducer on a Hummingbird 800 series Dave
  21. Over time that any amount of water will pass through a leaking screw hole. I once had a Stacer 525 that got electrolisys in it causing initially 1 tiny pin hole. Over a couple of days or less on the water while camping we had water coming up over the floor boards. The water in your hull isnt getting drained out after every trip on the water. It will fill up from the smallest leak. When i got a brand new boat only a couple of years ago there was a leak coming through where the transducer cable comes through the back of the transom which was above the water line. Even though it was above the water line enough water was coming in with the chop/ rocking of the boat to cause concern. I would not jump to conclusions and think the worst of a hull defect, I would check the basics first meaning anything that has been added or drilled to the hull as such including on the inside if anything has been screwed into the walls of these compartments. I have seen some really stupid things done to boat hulls by the people selling the boat from new drilling in bad places and not taking care of sealing things correctly. Dave
  22. Is there any chance the water leaked in through the screw holes of the transducer you pulled of ? even if only a small leak over time it would fill up ?
  23. tomorrow looks good. Will be goin out from down south. Anyone else ? Dave
  24. I dont think you will get a few hundred km range. 27 mg not much good out at browns except for boat to boat though no one else will realy be on it. its ok if your out with a mate though. VHF 16 is safety channel for log in to VMR or emergency other than that you should be on 21 out there to hear whats happening around you. Although i have found channel 21 poor reception/range lately. Any further south go to 72. hope this helps Dave
  25. On ya mate. Thats quality. And yeh that is my favourite bait for snapper.
