  1. That is Crazy. I bet not many people would have seen fish or fishing like that around that OT boat in NSW or Australian waters. I bet that Kingy in the last picture went hard. You might now be able to aswer the age old question now. What fish pound for pound pulls the hardest? Has to be the Kiny out of them doesnt it? After catching all those species in close time frame whats do you reckon? Dave
  2. It might be that sleeve that is seized but personally i think it will be the cable. Undo the small lock nut and take off the arm that returns back to the motor. Undo that big nut back towards the engine mount. see if you can pull the cable/ arm out. if you can then its not seized there. once you get it out of there try turning the steering wheel. If it still wont move it will be the cable. If your not confident maybe give it a miss would probably be the right thing for me to say. But I think its a good idea to know how these things work. worst case you pull it apart you will get someone to put it back together for you if you cant if you dont lose parts. Dave
  3. Geoff I think it is easy. post back if you want some pointers where to start. Dave
  4. Seized Steering Cacle. Sometimes if you can start moving it by getting someone to push the motor while trying to turn the wheel the same way. If you can get some movement you need to keep working it back and forth to free it up. While pumping some grease in the nipple at the motor end. But more often than not you will have to replace the cable which is the safest option as you dont want to lose steering on the water. Dave
  5. Jim Keep on top of it. I dont know heaps about this matter. There are posts on here that suggest not to worry about this matter. I do know this. I had a STACER whith all these signs. Electrolysis, Dissimilar metals, Electronics earthed to Alloy Hull Whatever you want to call it. After a few years started leaking, Pin holes in the hull below the water line started to appear and kept appearing most of them coming from large piting in the alloy from under the floor many under struts of the boat. Tried everything to stop it obviously found out about all the previous mentiond matters when we started searching for answers, tried more zinc blocks bolted to hull under the floor and couldnt stop it. Just saying it is an issue. Dave
  6. Pakiea Your Trailer is already a drive on, Drive off trailer. You wont damage the boat mate. Hit the V anywhere between the back 2 rollers and it will center and drive on. If your having trouble with controlling the boat while driving it onto the trailer IE cant steer it onto the trailer. The biggest mistake most people make that have trouble steering the boat onto the trailer is pulling the boat out of gear too early. Give yourself plenty of room well back off the ramp to get lined straight up with the trailer. keep it lined up straight you only need to drive at an Idle but dont take the boat out of gear. As soon as you knock it into neutral your boat will float where it wants to go. So keep it in forward until you actually hit the rolloers. You can knock it out into neutral just at the point of contact to soften the contact. Then straight back into forward to hold it there, line it up straight, bit of power and up it will go. Give it a go and start enjoying your time on the water. Dave
  7. I go with club marine. even if they were a bit dearer i still would. They offer alot of benefits like covering equipment, Fishing gear, Electronics, Water skis if in a lockable compartment. along with heaps of other benefits. My brother was insured with another well known company when his 12 month old boat got stollen and he lost out a fair bit and had a few dramas. Dave
  8. I have had this problem a few times. Every time it was just the antenna cable had come loose at the back of the unit. They work themselves loose with all the bouncing and banging. Last time a i nipped it up a bit tighter with a pair of pliers instead of just finger tight. Seems to have stopped it vibrating loose. Dave
  9. If you can get them easy enough i would use them every day of the week over stainless in an alloy boat. Honestly I had an Aluminium boat that started to get electrolysis in it and you cant stop it once it starts. Good quality Aluminium holders are definitly strong enough even for game fishing or driving Kings out of shallow ground at hook up. Dave
  10. I would be carefull fitting Stainless Rod holders to auminium. I know The good plate alloy builders like Barcrusher, Trailcraft etc use Aluminium Rod holders to avoid The electrolisis issue. Dave
  11. If your trying it from home you wont pick up. Marine VHF is line of sight as far as i know ?
  12. Try Calling marine rescue on Ch 16. Ask for a radio check. Hopefully you get a response. If you dont you have a problem.
  13. I agree. Exactly how you would have your steak. Medium to medium rare. Dave
  14. Nice Fish. Have you sorted out your radio dramas,

  16. Dont forget TASSIE DEVIL and CELTA Dave
  17. I have Hummingbird 858 and a 788 XD. I rate them highly. I have been out on boats with all the 1 kw transducers and top of the range models furuno, raymarine, lowrance. I honestly think my hummingbird out performs the lot. The GPS is super accurate and reaction time is just about instant. Have you seen guys turning around in circle because the gps is reacting too slow or on the zig zags heading out to sea because reacting to slow. This does not happen with the hummingbird. most people that come on my boat cant beleive the performance and ease of use of my combos. Oh and on the XD model i can pick up blue eye and gem fish when fishing the canyons out on the shelf without a 1Kw transducer. I have seen some of these other top of the range brands not even pick up bottom out there. I have no experience in the DI and side scan stuff. Dave
  18. Definetly a chance. Cast lures from the bank around the snowline caravan park ( opposite thredbo turn off ). Plenty of other bays further around that way. Points and flats. Hatchery Bay, Curiosity Rocks can all be reached by car and worth spinning from the bank. Cant beat Tassie devils from the bank in my opinion plenty of weight to get a good cast and cover plenty of water and awesome trout lure. Gold Wing tassies work well at jindabyne in brown and gold colours and not expensive either. Good luck. Catch one for me. Dont get tempted to fish any streams at this time of year as its closed season in trout streams. Your fine to fish any part of the lake. Dave
  19. Flash back. We use to use them years ago trolling for trout in Burrinjuck and they did work a treat. Can you still buy them anywhere? Dave
  20. Fished out wide of browns today. Not a strike on the lures. Stayed out till well after dark. on the way in found a small temp break in about 500m with some good marks at 20 - 40 m cubed for an hour but current was running way too hard. Zilch and 1 gem fish
  21. Very good. Yeh i would have to agree about jibbon area. It is hard to beleive that you are so close to the city of sydney and cronulla . Dave
  22. Sounds like an eventful day. And this post is making me feel a whole lot better about the screaming runs and lures lost i have had on big fish this season. So there back in sydney hey ! Tuna season is getting real close. Dave
  23. Paikea. I use Dolans Bay ramp when i head out of Port Hacking. Good Ramp and wharf but parking is terrible ( like all ramps on the hacking in my opinion.) but will only go out of there mid week for this reason. Yes its hard to find good help. We will keep that idea in mind anyway. Dave
  24. Good report and nice fish Paikea. Good relaxing estuary fishing. BUT. Tell me you have had the Tournament out ? If not I think its about time next good day that comes along we T up a day and get a few boats out of the Hacking and your one of them. Dave
