  1. Great fish Nick Are you goin to get stuck into them again tomorrow? Dave
  2. Micheal. We got similar size to yesterday. But. We hooked up right on the tide change to one that hit 24, peeled line off like it was in free spool and before i could get the lures in Broke at the main line. Im sure it was a big fish. The blokes like Reef Magic will boat them without doubt but i will be the first to admit that it was inexperience that let me down on that hook up. Im pretty sure i was running to heavy drag? Dave
  3. Damo We got em again today. Water temp seems to be alot higher than yesterday but still heaps bustin up randomly. And not real wide. Dave
  4. Thanx for the day out Damo. I Will be out again tomorrow to try find some more. Ive got the bug. Dave
  5. Lets get this charter for saturday going fellas. I have decided to jump on the charter instead of trying it in my own boat ( should learn a thing or 2 ). I have got 2 spots booked in for saturday. Who else is keen ?
  6. Yeh. The position and setup of transducer has heaps to do with getting a good reading. Another thing you could try is go into setup and select the restore factory defaults. I do this every so often after i have changed heaps of things and cant seem to get it back to a reading i want. They should be setup pretty good for settings straight out of the box. But yeh Could be transducer. Can you still select 500 watt power if so check that you are running at 1Kw. Dave
  7. Should do it easily. Can you turn the sensitivity up. See what percentage the sensitivity/Gain is at. Try turning it up. Also put your transducer on 50/200 Khz. you need the 50khz frequency to pick up the bottom in deeper water. Dave
  8. Finin. All good Bud. He does look a bit limp Cuz we knocked the guts out of him before we got him on board. Just to be safe you know . Even. I will be out as well and ill keep in touch. Manhands. We were out as far as 1000 fathoms. Found the better water in closer at around 200 but a fair way south. Bluelabel. Had a few marks from SSTs with temp breaks . The last one we trolled to had a definite change in temp, lots of tuna birds sitting around together and some bait surfacing every so often. Did not actually mark fish on the sounder. Dave
  9. In early June a fishraider charter was organised with Reef Magic to go out in search of Tuna, I decided to get on board as i have been wanting to try the tuna for a while. We didnt do very well but it has sparked the bug for me to catch one. Since that day i have got myself set up a bit and have been chasing them every chance i get, I have done 4 or 5 trips out of kiama when the weather has been ok. So with all other species been put on hold all efforts have been on tuna. sunday the 11th was the last trip. And the most promising. We found some better looking water and Cubed. After about 20-30 mins we had a very big yellow fin in the cube trail and not long after a mako which i think scared the fin off. Later that day we hooked and landed this mako Dave
  10. The lakes in the snowy area are stocked with trout. I remember hearing that it is a controlled stocking to provide anglers a place to catch and keep a feed of trout. Also the numbers are monitored and stocking is adjusted each year to control the numbers ie. if the numbers start getting too high the stocking is decreased. I think this is correct but not %100. Dave
  11. There has been heaps of big Tuna caught this season all the way up our coast from eden all the way including sydney. the majority of fish have been wide of Ulladulla and Jervis Bay. It has been unpredictable as i have had 1 charter trip out and 3 trips in my own boat for Zero. Its hard to keep up where they are. If they are around sydney way you cant go past Reef Magic Charters from this site. If the fish are around the sydney area your best chance is with these fellas. Dave
  12. Hahaha. Good stuff. You would need a fair amount for a feed yeh ?
  13. I agree with don sort of. I find they do bite best at the top of the tide. You can seem to catch them on just the live bait jig alone with no bait ( Sabiki jig ^) at the top of the tide. But this is a pain cuz this is when you want to be catching the real fish using the livies. But as don said around any structure, Try a few places and you will find some places and then they will regularly be there. i use layer pellets ( Chook pellets ) soaked in tuna oil for burley, And as don said add a tiny peice of bait to the jig hook if there not playing the game. first light is also a good time. Sometimes if you are too early they are still sleeping i find. Dave
  14. Paikea Mate you have put some good posts up with good projects done on boats and i have read them and been interested. I like the window in the bait tank and i have seen this done in the more expensive glass boats and it looks good, You can see how your livies are going and you could see when the old inkers have had enough and decided to let loose. I reckon my missus would look at them but and feel sorry for them and next thing i would know is all my livies have magically got out through my new clear window? No seriously, I went up to my boat to see if i could do it but my bait tank is different and has kind of a double wall, or the tank is seperate and the gunnwall drops down the inside with a cavity of about 35mm to the tank ( does that make sense ). so i decided it would be too much stuffing around. I dont mind tinkering with my boat but its fairly new and i dont like to go cutting and altering the glass work for my own mind and for resale purpose. I wouldnt mind some new rod holders. Not like rocket launchers or holders to fish from but like a rack of holders some where out of the way or to just rack my rods up in the deck area for storage while traveling on the road and while moving between destinations. I also would like to strengthen the fibreglass wall that drops down the inside of the gunwall as it is a bit flimsy. Im thinking of bolting some say 15-18 mm ply to the wall and have it padded and upholstered to match the seats which would create a padded gunwale ( Make Sense? ) And incorporate some grab rails into this as well. What do you think ? But yeh your might be right about replies. Sometimes you can put a post on with a fairly decent catch and after a while you think not good enough aye ? A lot of people that come on this site and where the views came from have not got 1 post to there name and its a simple fact that alot of people use this site to see where the fish are biting and thats it. Its a small amount that actually regularly post in comparison to the actual number of members. ( Correct me if im wrong ) Dave
  15. All outboards do pull one way due to the rotation of the prop. Even boats with steering wheels do pull one way. The hydraulic steering stops the motor pulling one way but the older mechanical type does not stop the motor wanting to turn one way. In saying this on your motor, on the underside of the cavitation plate you have a little fin called a trim tab ( i think ). The trim tab is adjusted and used to counteract the rotation of the prop. You can loosen it off adjust it around the way you are always correcting the motor to or the opposite way to which it always turns to. This should help it stay straight. It might take a few goes and tests to get it right. But i would be careful letting go of the tiler steer and definitely would not let it go if you are doing any sort of speed. Might be ok at trolling speed. Would this be right Huey ? Dave
  16. Looks the goods mate. I bet its good on fuel and rides good. Dave
  17. Its good when a plan comes together. quality catch. Dave
  18. barracuda often have worms in them and should not be eaten if they do. Ive never heard of flathead with worms but might be possible. I wouldnt eat it if you think it had worms. Dave
  19. mr.e.d. I hold 180 L. both trips we did 130km round trip and used 80 L both trips. so good fuel economy leaving me nearly 100 L. I know you have been out with the boats from SGFC and i often see them out and about. If anticipation is organising another wide trip i would be keen as mustard if thats what your getting at ? Dave
  20. I have been going out in search of these tuna that we are hearing about when the weather has been good. Two weekends ago we went out off kiama 60km out with no luck on the tuna but got some nice gemmies on the way back in. Yesterday we traveled out the same kind of distance. There was a lot more bait schools around but still didnt find a tuna. Nothing from having a plonk on the bottom on the way in this time so we made the decision to have a crack at the reddies until dark on a reef in close. No reddies showed up but we did manage a nice gummy shark which is the third gummy caught from this mark in the last two times i have fished it so i am planning on targeting them next time from this reef maybe after dark. My mate mick with a stonker gemmy My brother in law with his first gummy shark and his biggest catch yet explains the huge smile. Dave
  21. Its a hard one. I have an electric too. There are bag limits in place and if everyone sticks to the bag limits or less we should be ok in my opinion. Also i dont think having electrics changes the matter, Just because you have electrics doesnt mean we are taking more than the limits or more than anyone who has been fishing with the big deck winches for years. Having an electric does make it easier but if they where not around and we knew what we can get out there, with the gear we have these days we would be doing it with a 50W tiagra 2speed spooled with the same braid we are running and on the same deep drop rods but with a straight but wouldnt we ? And i am planning to do this in the near future ( Catch a big blue eye on conventional rod and reel ). And back to the bag limits, Why can we only take 2 gemmies but if we can catch 5 Blue eye only we are allowed 5 per person. I think this is ridiculous, Not saying i want to take 5 blue eye but the gemmies are a pest out there, i am normally trying to get away from them to give the blue eye a chance. There is alot more gemmies than blue eye out there. And than there's the fact that its no different to any other kind of fishing. Sometimes they are there and sometimes there not. Its not that they are not there its like everything else they feed around certain times, The big females are around at certain times of the year and they hang around in certain water. For example earlier this year i was fishing off bermagui and in 3 drops i got an 18kg and a 10 kg blue eye and 2 gem fish after those three drops the decision was made to STOP DROPPING ( as you can only eat so much fish.) with fish showing on the sounder everywhere. 3 days later i went to the exact same mark. With a different current running there was not a fish to be seen on the sounder and didnt lose a bait. We should all just have some control and as hard as it is when they are biting, make the decision to stop dropping when you have enough for a feed. #%^& sorry about the essay Dave
  22. Maybe look at these too mate. A couple of years ago i was looking at upgrading to a newer fiberglass boat and was looking at Haines, Seafarer, Cruise craft, Tournament etc. I found this boat new which is Baysport Offshore 620. boat show price was $47000 with a 130 2 stroke yammy i got it with a 150 4 stroke for $55000 from memory brand new. the boat is very similar to the rest and with a good walk around step around cabin and for the price cant beat it in my opinion. Doesnt have the bells and whistles as the rest but you can option it out as you want it. I have caught plenty of quality fish out of it now and can fish well offshore and take it on the freshwater lakes when i want to. it has a good soft ride and stable at rest. Let me know if you want anymore info. Dave
