  1. It would be an amazing boat. Dave
  2. Would like to leave it. Some of my family and friends only have 27 MHz . Only really use it inshore and estuaries.
  3. And you will cut your hands trying to drop the sinker over side and trying to stop slow it with only 20lb breakaway. I use 50lb line from Bigw ( cost about $3.50 for 500m )for my sinker dropper which is anywhere from 5- 15 meters depending where we are fishing. 200-300 lb main line and droppers to the hooks. I use window sash weights but im a builder so i do get them from some renovations. Your sinker is best off being Lead as it can be smaller in size for same weight as steel. then you have less water drag meaning less weight required. You can buy some good big tear drop sinkers, I think they are about 500g - 1500g. they are the best but are pricey espeicially if your going to fish browns. I have made sinkers for deep drop same way as you would make a snapper lead but I use empty coke cans or the skinny V cans are good. Pour lead into can with the top cut off, Have a ring of fencing wire ready to set into the top of it before lead sets. Dave
  4. Yeh I looked up the splitter which I cant do. and yes I was just reading the radio booklet and noticed the triple watch function which is handy but I will still be Installing the second VHF If I mount the second VHF aerial on the same side as the 27 Mhz. With the 27Mhz swithched off will the two aerials then not interfere with each other? So Mostly I would have the 2 VHF swithed on out at sea ( aerials on opposite side of boat ). If I want to run the 27Mhz ( Only very minimal use when im on the water with a few friends that only have 27) I can swith off the VHF which is attached to the aerial on that same side and if I want leave the existing VHF on? Thanks Ian Dave
  5. I just had I thought. Ian! Can I get a splitter that will run VHF and 27 MHz eg VHF aerial with a VHF / 27 Mhz splitter. If so I'll change the port side aerial to a VHF aerial and run 1 VHF off it and the 27 meg rarely will get used anyway.
  6. I thought this would get asked. I already have an aerial on each side of the boat ( one each side of the cabin symetrical ). port side has 27 Mhz starboard has VHF. The reason I am adding a VHF to have 2 is a few reasons. Mainly because of the distances we are travelling out to sea ( well beyond the shelf out to 1000 - 2000 fathoms maybe more if needed ) a second VHF would be wise as one could fail, Also in the comps we fish if you lose radio contact with base you must retire and head straight back to port.. Also to monitor 2 channels. If your talking about dual watch this is not what im looking for as it will only monitor 16 and another chosen channel. I know I can run the second radio off an aerial splitter but I think If I am installing another VHF I would rather keep it on its own Aerial. If I run a splitter and have an aerial issue causing no transmission this will then disable both radio units. Dave
  7. Does anyone know if you can mount two VHF aerials close to each other like mounted side by side? Without them interfering with each other? If so what are the minimum clearences? Maybe the fella from road runner parts could tell me Dave
  8. I have started running outriggers In the past 12 months. Your right most blokes that have the experience will tell you tag lines are the way to go. The way I have been rigging them is elastic band tied to the main line and then clipped to the original release clip. That way the release clip can let go or the elastic band can break. I have also been shown a way to tie the band to the main line so that when it does release or break the band falls straight off the line and not still tied to it meaning you dont have to worry about it comming back through the rollers when you get your fish back close to the boat. I have found with the marlin we have hooked, landed and lost this year that you will get strikes on your lures on any rod on the riggers or the two corners. what I mean is its fairly evenly spread they dont seem to prefer the riggers over the corners, Espeicially the short corner behind a teaser. Striped marlin are hard to hook on lures in any position outriggers or not. So what I mean is even when they take a corner which is in straight contact with no slack they still sometimes seem to not hook up. So I cant see how tag lines would help this problem. The stripes some days seem to just hit the lures with there bill giving you a strike with minimal hook up. Anyway I looked at a youtube clip that Peter Pakula done showing ways to rig off outriggers. There is also really good information on setting your spread on outriggers on the ScentBlazer website ( these guys are sponsors of this site) Other than that I say get out there and give it a go and you will work it out as you go. Dont worry about tag lines for now as there is more important things to worry about first I think. Dave
  9. Second the Ocean Perch or "fish coctails" i call them Dave
  10. we fished out of JB but seriously there is a stack of marlin being caught from as far down as Eden I think but at least as far as Bermi all the way up to Port stephens as far as I know. I dont know heaps of whats going on off sydney though? Dave
  11. No mate not off Sydney. There is a good bite on the south coast at the moment. But I think a lot of areas are fishing well its just a matter of finding the bait schools and working that area. Dave
  12. What a weekend. We started off on friday and fished the bottom for longer than we planned to, by the time we had a feed it was close to midday when we put the lures in. 2 pm we hooked up to Striped and had him boatside about 3:15. It was a good fish for us after losing many boatside this year so we decided to take it first capture to myself and Black Dog. Monday we fished again this time with Boxy on board and the plan was to go to the same area and get as many marlin under our belt as we could and also get Boxy his first marlin after countless hours and hard work. Well we arrived to the area where the fish had been and hopes were high when we could see multiple hook ups straight away. We hooked up on lures again at just after 9am and had a tag in him and lots of photos by 10am. It was great to be rewarded after so many hours and lost fish this year. Also had another good run from a marlin but hooks didnt stick on monday and a Dolphin fish aboat 8-9 kg Dave Friday Monday
  13. 80cm and fat king is a great fish. when they are hanging around in that size there could be anysize down there.
  14. There sounds like there are some good kings down there. Sorry to say the ones that busted you would be better than that. What depth of water did you find them if you dont mind me asking. Dave
  15. Definitly sharks in there. I do alot of outside fishing and sometimes looking for crew if your interested. Anything from flatties, Snapper, kingies through to the gamefishing scene. Im not too far from you. If you want to organise a trip with someone you can personal message them. look up in the top right of the page and you will find your mailbox. exchange details through that i would say. Dave
  16. You might find a decent King on the bottom at the peak. or have a jig if you find some fish on the sounder. You might loose everything to leatherjackets too?
  17. I think sunday is looking like a cracker of a day off sydney. 10 - 15 knots off BOM well less than 10 knots from seabreeze. 1.5 m swell at over 10 sec interval. Great conditions if they have it right. Livies around the fads will get the bigger fish and also if you get there early you might have a chance on the bigger fish before everyone else. Dave

  19. I have found some lines fail with this knot and others are fine. some lines slip with this knot and others bite in and dont let go. Smaller lines seam to fail and slip. cheaper leaders seam to work well with this knot. I have found Black Magic leader ( which is up there) to slip and fail misserably with this knot. Dave
  20. Would that be the same trout fishing expert that you met on the river last year was it that i remember reading about? He was struggling somewhat while you were nailing them? You offered him some advice or offered him a fly the same as yours or something? How good is fishing. Dave
  21. Around 32 meters strauight out off Barrenjoey and palm beach is reliable. Patchy reef so you will pick up flattys and the ocasional reddy hopefully. And at this time of year that depth will hold Gummy Sharks. Dave
  22. Hey RobRoy. If you need to get a crew together to help fuel your mighty ship for the trip you can count me in. That goes for any trip for that matter. Just putting it out there. Dave
  23. Minnow you would hear people talk about with trout fishing would be a minnow style lure. Eg Baltic Minnow as above or Rapala minnow lures. Its more a style of lure not one set brand. Hard bodied lure, Fish like shape and colours. Rapala sinking or floating Trout pattern lures work great in brown or rainbow trout pattern. For lake Jindabyne rapala or minnow lures with a gold or orange belly work well at certain times of the year to resemble the resident goldfish that school up and get the trout feeding in a frenzy on them. Hope this helps. Tassie devils work well. Especially castin from the bank as you can get a good cast with them to cover ground and maximise the time your lure is in the water. For shallow running streams my favourite trout lure would have to be a very small and basic Celta. Natural coloured Vibes also work well for working fishy looking areas from the bank. Dave
  24. Ha. Crazy. It would be nice to somehow track that boat
