  3. I have just purchase some led strip lights from the on line shop - 5meters. 1.Installed a 1m lenght down each side of the boat. 2.Made up a strip light on alum and put inside some clear tubing. 3. Installed a 1m strip in the cabin with a dimmer switch. 1 and 2 are fine and work through a swithes located on the dash (one switch for each side). Problem is 3 works through a dimmer and is giving a hum and wine through the audio am radio when it is switch on.The dimmer was purchase through the on line shop as well. Is there some way I can have the radio on and the lights dimmed? When I wire up an on/off switch it is fine. regards norm

  6. I have looked at the forum about ratchet jockey wheels. I have a couple of questions, I drive in with the car and boat attached on a level drive unhook boat and push the boat back and around to fit in the front yard. The problem is when I need the boat back out it is hard to drag and hook onto the tow bar as it is on socera pebbles which is a flat surface. The flat surface is pavers. 1. If I put a piece of old ply on the ground and the wheel onto it, I think it would travel ok. 2. How much weight do you need on the jockey wheel for it to run ok. 3. Can you steer the jockey wheel as it goes in reverse. I normally put a small piece of rope onto the front coupling and pull it around with the car but have no control over it when it comes clear of the socera pebbles and it bangs slightly into the back of the car. Not looking for it to be fast just that I can control it, it only has to move about 10ft and then I can couple up to the car. A motorised one is too expensive. thanks norm
  7. brewy 85 yes you do need the speed sensor, I now have one and the unit works great.
  8. I have a Caribeen Crest Cutter built in 1977 and still is fine would not swap it all, I have had it 20years and bought it for 4,500
  9. I have my own spots but have not been out fishing for about 18 mnths, my question is are they still about in the Hawkesbury system. The son in law is very interested in fishing. thanks norm
  10. Weekend fisher, Had the same problem in a 36yrs old Caribeen Crest Cutter. I have had it for 20years and the previous owner had used bogg to repair in the same area. I always would have about 3ltres of water coming out when I finished boating and I put it down to the age of the boat. It became very severe with the boat on the last trip starting to fill up with water, I have an electric bilge pump so we were able to get to the ramp in time. What had happended was the bogg eventally fell out and there was a large split about 300mm long. I repaired it myself by sanding back to the base and replacing with chopped strand then fibreglass matting and 2 coats of flow coat. I went about 250mm each side of the split. I had no rot or flex around the split.(I had made fibreglass canoes in the past). Tools I used sander, old paint brushes, old plastic meat trays(for mixing the resin and flow coat), a metal roller (for rolling the chop stand and mat so the resin comes through). Do not go to the large hardware store to buy the fibreglass it is dear, I went to a fibreglass repair place and bought the resin and flow coat at half the price. The last trip not one drop of water. regards norm

    FLOWCOAT

Hello, I had to repair a fibreglass hole in my boat and reinforced the bung hole(boat is 40yrs old). I looked at youtube about repairning with flowcoat and gel coat and found a lot of info. One suggestion was to place cling wrap like material as it cured, they did a lot of sanding with 400 and 600 to take out the brush marks, as my boat was old I did not worry to much . regards norm. P.S dont do it in this hot hot weather or it will go off quick.
  12. What is the conditon of the toilets? The last time about 4 weeks ago they were disgusting, I will have some vistors from UK and if need be the toilets could be needed. Not a good advertisment for Aus.
  13. Just bought and fitted a Garmin Echo 300c and took it for a test run. The depth is fine. The alarms are fine. The fish icons fine. When I went to calibrate the speed it came up with an error, should I have paddle wheel sensor for the speed. Does anyone own one. thanks norm

  15. I have a lot of fishing guide books and they say 3 to 4 boat lengths out from the edge. Now my boat is 5.2m and a small tinnie could only be 3m. This could mean that you miss the spot !!! What is everyone idea of how to guess the distance out from the edge. I just guess a rough distance and try, if no good move in or out till I succeed. It has always puzzled me. thanks norm

  21. Hello Fishraiders, I have a Carbeen Crestcutter(circa 1977 with a 115hp and 9hp aux) 5.2m and will be taking the Son in Law and 2 grandchildren fishing for the first time. They have fished on shore down the Sth Coast, my plan is to fish Jerusalam Bay for Leatherhjackets as there is now size limit on them and if we are lucky can have a feed. Also would like to pump for yabbies and try for a good bream myself. With the Crestcutter there is plenty of room and in the half cab shelter from the elements. The rigs I will be using are 2 small rods with a No2 longshank hooks with a sinker 20cm and a float and using peeled prawn, I will burly up with some old prawns and pilchard left over from other trips. Has any other fishos got some suggestions we are going this Sunday if the conditions are ok. thanks norm
  22. Hello Fishraiders, I have an old Sydney Top Fishing spots book. It says that they are Luderick close in shore? Have they gone or are they still there, I will be fishing from a boat. It is an old book. Thanks norm
