  3. A big thank you to Steve (Stapo) and Huy (Gonefishinginoz). I met Huy and Marvin at 7.30pm after checking our gear we got into the water and then it happened prawns, I had my 18 in about 1/2 hr and needed another one to make it better than my last trip. Well I ended up with about 1kg the same as Huy, whilst I was packing up the prawning gear Marvin said that is not enough and poured his prawns into my bucket and another chap Nat said have some of mine. This gave me about 3kgs. see attached photo. You could not ask for a better bunch of felllas, all night Huy and Marvin kept calling out how are Norm is everything OK Since this topic started Steve and Huy have given advice and nothing was a trouble. Marvin is the person who with Steve made the prawn floats and said what a good one I had made and suggested some improvements and was pleased someone had made it from a photo. This man said he would make me a better prawning net than the one I bought as the net was not that long and his was about 1.2m which was better. I will be there when the next dark is on in January. Thanks a Steve and Huy also Fishraider for a forum that helps people THANKS Norm
  4. Steve coming up on the 30th Huy could not wait any longer. Will only be there for the one night and returning in the early morning.
  5. Found these on Ebay don't know how good but could not resist at $1.73 each .. When will this stop!!!!!!!
  6. Amazing what you find in your shed !!!!! I replaced the windscreen and side windscreens on the boat and there they are. Never throw anything out. With a hole saw with the pilot drill taken out and a very slow speed on the bench drill I now have perfect lenses for my led lights. Gonefishinginoz I don't need the perspex thanks. norm
  7. Great bring a piece down on the 30th thanks
  8. The yanks use the handle and the piece past the handle gives support as I thinks it would get heavy with the two lights.I tested the single one in the fish pond yesterday and I think there is no leaks. Used the blue pvc pipe glue and silicon on the lens. I am after lexan polycarbonate for the lens, I replaced my windscreen on my boat so I will go and see if he has scrape so I can make better lenses, as the lexan is so dear, A good idea about the extension for the sand. norm
  9. Just returned from the girls in aprons and big boots. The items to make a twin bulb unit. 25mmx20mm Reducing bush 1.54 x2 =3.08 50x25mm Reducing coupling 4.38x2=8.76 20mmx1m Press PVC pipe 3.00x2=6.00 20mm Press PVC Tee Plain 1.65x2=3.30 20mm Press PVC Elbow 90deg 1.15x2 =2.30 20mm 45deg Press PVC Elbow 1x1.40 20mm Press PVC Cap End 2x1.55=3.10 Globes 5.00x2 = 10.00 TOTAL 35.64 The lens, wiring and batteries, I already have.
  10. I am making a unit very similar to the one you buy for about $50- $70 and it will run a small 12v battery. I bought the LED 12v lights and connectors from the place where the girls were big boots and aprons they cost me $20 for 4, they are 4w-260lumens the connectors were $15 for 5 you can do without these however this is the better way, you could solder female connectors onto the pins and save money. The head unit is from a plumbing supply as I was looking for a unit that I got off the youtube sight and have not found it in aus yet, it cost $4.28 with a reducer to take it down to 3/4". The conduit is a scrape piece I had, with a heat gun I molded it around a paint tin to give it an angle. It will run off a 12v 7.2amp which I all ready have. I will also make a double header, The lens for the front is made out plastic I already have, I will put up the complete plans and how I made it when I work it out. (I will bring it up on the 30th Huey). My wife says it would be cheaper to go the Sydney Fish Markets and buy the prawns what she doesn't realise it keeps me out off her hair whilst I am up in the shed.
  11. Just come back from the store with red and green aprons and girls wear big boots. 12v LED lights and PVC fittings, youtubed an American sight gigging for flounder and seen how to make a light. I think I can make 4 for the price of 1 bought from a tackle shop. Will keep you posted.
  12. Good heavens, I don't want to be a prawn at The Entrance this season I would have no hope of getting to the open ocean to have sex and then die. I don't remember any of these floats when I prawned in the 50s, science has come a long way. We are now talking about the aero dynamics, the prawns have no chance.
  13. The paint I used was water based it was left over from something. Be careful with the glue if you have to clean with turps it will eat the stryro foam. I used stryo foam on my model railroad and cut it with a hot wire and this gives a clean cut or you can use a fine panel saw and sand with 240 gn on the cut edge be very gentle and you will get a smooth edge. I use Knauf insulation panels from the big warehouse red and green that wear the aprons and girls wear big boots. 1.2mx60cmx5cm -$20,1.2x60cmx3cm $12 Selleys allfix glue - cylinder $9.60 25mmx25mm plastic angle 2.4m $5 x2 The glue is water based, I googled glue for styro foam and this came up plus others. For stability a keel on the bottom should be OK, the width of the float is 600mm as a body board is narrower this could be the problem. You don't want the net in the float when you get in the water, I had mine in my hand and torch ready no prawn was going to get away from me (well 18 didn't). norm
  14. They are breeding!!!! We must organise a night in Feb or Mar ?
  15. watch out prawns here I come!!!!!!!!
  16. OK let see if I have this correct. Full Moon Feb 23rd - 5 days to 1 week to the start of the dark. Prawning from 1st Mar till about 19th Mar. Not worried about the tides as I can stay out all night. If these dates are they correct, I understand it is for any where in the southern hemisphere.
  17. I am in the process of making a prawn punt (I suppose that's what you would call it), I found out my old waders had a hole so repairing them and ready to go. I will try to workout the dark and see if my dates are the same as yours.
  18. not only you but the wife, I am the joke of the family only a prawn sandwich after all that. Let see when I get the full 10litres and how much they will pay then for a prawn sandwich then .
  19. I knew it was the end of the run so wasn't dissappointed.
  20. I would just like to make it know how much help I have got from Stapo to be able to go prawning at The Entrance. I lived at The Entrance in 1948 and left in 1956, my mother and I use to go prawning quite often. Now that I had just turned 70yrs and thank you Fishraider for the birthday wishes. My wife said what do you want, I said what about going prawning at The Entrance so I pmd Stapo and got some advice I had forgotten. Stapo pm several times with very helpful info that I had forgot, nothing was a trouble. Well we went up on Thursday night, the tide changed at 11pm and I stayed out till about 12.30am what a great catch about 18 prawns then again on Friday night again about 11pm however the wind was so strong it was not worth it. Left The Entrance Saturday morning for home. The total spent on the weekend with accommodation, diesel and food was about $400 so each prawn was about $22 each and did they taste delicious. Thanks again to Stapo and Fishraider
  21. I just renewed the registration of mine they don't issue a sticker now, you have to download the registration and keep this if ask by the Water Police.
  22. I have a GME GX 300 you can select 27meg marine or 27meg CB, I think you are on 27 CB. My instruction book says- To select the 27MHz CB band, turn the radio off, then press and hold the 88/Pri key while turning the radio on again, The radio will now display channels 1-40 and default to road Ch 8. Repeat the sequence above to return to the marine band. I hope this helps - Norm
