  1. bait is collected by many around west head usually full of it! cheers pk
  2. the drift in front of palm beach and the sea plane wharf between the markers is quite productive but popular, careel bay is another great spot. a bit further round the drift between box head, lion isalnd, and west head is also good. cheers pk
  3. heres a good link for the albright knot very clearly done... http://www.animatedknots.com/albright/inde...imatedknots.com
  4. i have yet to try mahi mahi could be good, and raw squid i havent tried although i have heard alot on how good pickled squid and baby octopi are!! pickled in quality white vinegar with a clove of garlic,, pepper bit of olive oil and paprika or chilli. i might try it next time i get a few squid although not confident bout it!! cheers pk
  5. yes if prepared incorrectly it is a health hazard, it must be stored at the correct temp. usually we just eat it freshly caught a bit of alcohol (sake) or vinegary liquid helps cure the fish slightly and kills of some bacteria, you need the right dressings and clean prep otherwise there could be trouble.
  6. yes its gonna be a ripper of the season when those dollies turn up in there numbers!!! cheers pk
  7. snapper yft kingfish trevs flathead and love wasabi on top!!! i know its not a fish but raw crab meat is quite quite good!! if prepared right... cheers pk
  8. after this year of school the holidays couldnt come fast enough. im going down jervis bay gotto be careful of the zoning down there though theres little roome where you are permitted to fish. plan to head down after the new year, maybe target the beaches and platfroms for bread and butter fish maybe some drummer and squid which could be converted to perhaps a jew or king. and try some plastics on the snapper out of the cousins boat. cheers pk
  9. i think the penn accord has a metal spool but what i reccomend is this (1) use a mono backing , tie mono to the spool and wind on enough to cover your spool (it gives better grip to the spool and allows more efficient use of the reel) then join the braid to the mono with a double uni knot or a knot you find comfortable (perform a serach on the net). (2) once you have almost filled your spool with braid (should be about 2-3mm before the lip of the spool) once again tie the braid to a leader which can either be mono or flourocarbon (flouro is better as it is invisible underwater due to its refraction index). this leader will stop the braid which is highly sensitve to busting of on snags/sharp objects as its low stretch. youd only need 1-2m of leader (mono or flouro) (3) as for knots check the net and braid often requires that extra turn or loop as its very thin but become confident with a knot and you wont fail. vary your plastic range and jighead reange and your technique and you should be fine. braid will improve your casting distance as it has a finer diameter. you should be making it a bit more than five metres but this could be due to the light wieght and the rod might not be ligt enough. is there a reccomended lure weight on your rod?? (4) as for fishing bait on fireline it can be done just try not to run sinkers etc along the braid as it will fluff so attach sinkers etc to you leader (mono or flouro) and try to minimes the wear and tear on the braid. if you need any more assistance just pm me... i hope this helps. and best of luck. cheers pk
  10. stylo, the setup sound pretty good exceptyoud probably want to get your hands on some braid or fireline as it increases your hookup rate massively as you can feel every little nudge or bite that you might not pick up on the mono as it stretches as opposed to braid which is almost non stretch. and no sinker is needed, the jigheads are fines maybe get a variety of weights for different situations and differ your technique on the day some days fast twitchy retrieve works, others itll be a dead slow one with jerky retrieves. i have fished narrabeen quite a few times over the past few years always accompanied by my father who fishes bait. i have found that on overcast days is where the sp's really fire although bait does well. prawns are not the best for the lake unless there quite large in size, as with mallacootapete my dad finds whitebait to be a gun bait especially when riged on small gang hooks (reccomended by the tackle shop near the lake.) many days i have outfished bait with plastics especially when it comes to flathead , yet what i found is the level of the lake is very shallow therefore many dont have succes with bream whiting etc as theyre fishing to heavy (in some cases 1/16th is a bit heavy) i started weightles presentations with grubs and worms and bought some resin jigheads and found they sink alot slower and this has vastly increased my catch rate on bream, whiting , flonder and also caught a few mullet. a bit of experimening is needed and in my opinion theres no better its just what you become accustomed to and what floats your boat! cheers pk
  11. a quick question; the areas shaded in yellow (habitat protection zones) are these the areas that are fishable??? i am planning on taking a trip down there in january so just making sure. thanks pk
  12. ive got a few spots that produce but it depends on what you are fishing for?? for bream and trevally, its hard to go past the moorings and marinas at newport, careel bay, bayview. a place that turns out varies species of fish include the wharves around scotland island here is good for bream, trevors, salmon& tailor (sun rise/sunset) and your a good chance of a kingfish. trolling from longnose point to mackeral beach and around soldiers point produces kings, salmon, tailor. the calm bays on the western side such as coasters retreat and morning bay produce flathead.flounder, bream and whiting on the drifts as well as squid in among the weedy patches. the drift in front of careel bay and palm beach (pittwater side)in front of the seaplane wharf and around the markers almost always produces nice flathead and flounder. there is endless structures such as wharves, marinas, moorings, flats etc. a good place to start though would be around scotland islands wharves and moorings they constantly produce! here is a map that will give you ideas of depths structure and the names of the bays.. pittwater map hope this helps are yous fishing lures, baits and whats your target species?? cheers pk
  13. sounds like you had a great trip and some nice fish to accompany, cant get much better!!! quick question when fishing the entrance were you fishing the beach side or lake side as on the lake side there were pleny of big stingrays around!! well done on the fish cheers pk
  14. im on the other end of the spectrum only beeing 16, if my girlfriends dad was like that id shit myself!!! nice one hopefully you guys dont take it too seriously
  15. nice session and some good fish... are you sure it wasnt a river or sea garfish as there have been a few reports of them in the lake lately. if it was a garfish these fish are excellent eating when quickly fried. if it was a long tom well i havent eaten one before but i have heard there bones are coloured greeny?? well done on the session. cheers pk

mate the only way youl find out is if you try it. if you have a pump get some nippers use a light leader and youl be in with a great shot! dont forget to have a flick of the soft plastics as well maybe the gulp sandworms in camo the whiting love em. cheers pk
  18. thanks very much mate, i might get down there in a couple of weeks on an early morning high tide and ill try them out. cheers pk.
  19. there have been alot of yellowfin bream around dee why in the close in gutters i got some off beach on beachworms and prawn fished on a running sinker rig and also managed a decent salmon (last week) the answer to your question will vary from angler to angler as they have all had differing experiences. yet if you have favourable conditions (weather and little weed), pick a nice gutter and have good baits and rigs they should all produce fish. although north narra is notorious for its monster jews! cheers pk
  20. gday guys, i havent fished pittwater much in fact i havent fished it from the shore before. i was looking at doing a bit of squiding for some calamari off some of the wharves (used to do it off the wharves in sydney but not anymore!) I might also rig up the squid and throw one out and also spin some plastics for a few flatties and bream while my mate will be bait soaking. I have heard of some areas such as palm beach wharf, taylors point wharf i was just asking if fishing is permitted off these wharves as many have no fishing signs in place as to many fishos leave mess behind. can anyone inform me of some wharves or land based areas in pittwater which are fishable (they dont have to all produce squid). any information will be appreciated cheers pk.
  21. gday, another quick recomendation would be clifton gardens (also silver trevs on offer bread burley needed) this place is popular so get there early. other spots include the wharf at balmoral (try the rocky island as well) and around the spit bridge once again a nice bread burley will do the trick. sharp size 10ish hooks work well. cheers pk
  22. well gday guys. havent fished the lake in about 4 odd onths but this was one of my worst sessions ever when it comes to flathead. i started out scanning the entrance which was dominated by rather large stingrays! so anyone wading around the entrance be very careful as there is about half a dozen of them. went to ocean street bridge and flicked a 3' bass minnow in wartermelon/pearl for succes on many undersized bream around 20cm and a couple of legals at 25 and 27 cm. then flicked around the bilarong reserve area went up and down the shore changing lure stlye, colours and sizes all to no avail on the flathead front, then tied on a sx40 and had some nice whiting about 20-30cm on my lure and some tiny bream following. tried deep creek, middle creek and must have covered half the area of the lake with lures all firing at weedy edges and sandy/rocky shallows yet alll to no avail on the flathead front. not a very good session but it was unusaul as from the bilarong reserve are almost every session i wil get two flatties over 45cm. they were very quite and there was a noticibale absence of fish and even smaller bait fish which are normally flooding the areas. flatties were very quite could be due to the water temp, maybe the water level, i dono but thats fishing! just to add i saw what looked very much like an estuary cod in middle creek it was a juvenile and it was sitting almost vertical looking up to the trees. an unusaul sight for me! chers pk
  23. im a parramatta man, the only reason for me backng the broncos is becuase they were my late mates (mike) favourite team, he loved them and will stil be cheering for them ...so broncos for me! cheers pk
  24. great work mate and great rewards for your work!! if you dont mind me asking what was the jewies weight? ps. i might try that gosford music sounds like a ripper tactic must bring the jewies out of their slumber. cheers pk

ahh yes the silver tails, vs the westies, im not old enough to have lived in those days but have seen the games and the footage that was what youd call a real rivalry and true rugby league it had biffo, skills and toughness all mixed in. pity now im a parra fan i have to put up with the label of "chokers" every year but i do admit parra and the dragons are the biggest chokers in the game (or at least in my time),, but that wont stop me barracking for the mighty eels! cheers pk
