  1. Stud bull mate well done, they are just the best by-catch
  2. Mate happy to go for a fish with you if your'e that close, I'm only a street off the beach at Windang, generally take boat to Shellharbour but new to area so open to advice. Got a Seafarer Viking with 150 merc very kitted out for fishing. And yeh... I may have indulged in another beer and sat next to bonfire cursing the one that got away Can't remember brand but doubt you hooked a marlin on it, was a fine long Blackfish style rod, prob lost off rocks somewhere in Sydney
  3. New Daiwa reel loaded with bright yellow braid on a black beach rod... last seen heading East. Had a Bonny fillet on, went to grab a fresh beer, drag set too tight > off goes the rod out of PVC holder. Stripped off ran in to swim after it but it went too quickly too deep. Rip too strong not worth drowning over a fishing combo but still shattered. I'm thinking it was Jew / Gummy / Ray as it wasn't going super fast just steady and constant. I lost sight of it maybe 40m from shore. So if anyone finds it washed up nearby or hooks something attached to a nice combo please message I'll shout you a day out on boat. Pretty ironic really- the rod I had found floating about 1km off Botany Bay 2 years ago. Cheers
  4. Nice, make sure to scrape out black gut lining
  5. Great little seafood basket, nothing better
  6. Great Jewie catches mate and well done on the mullet too they are fun
  7. Never forget an episode I had once with a long tom. Was spearing years ago at Lobster Bay (Currarong) and as came in shallow saw a big long tom (maybe 70-80cm) on surface near me. Took a shot with hand spear, got him but he got off. Next thing he kept charging towards me, stop maybe a metre away and bare his impressive fangs. Did it 2 or 3 times before I managed to spear him properly. Was very yummy to eat, weird though had green bones
  8. Outstanding effort. Couldn't help but think of "The old man and the sea"
  9. Curiousity- to go out the river mouth is the only way isn't it apart from beach launch Smokey Cape?
  10. Ok so got an email from friend who was on scuba boat yesterday morning- they saw and photographed a Whale Shark! Pretty unbelievable sight for here, once in a lifetime. Confirmed by the scuba company's Facebook page with more pix. I know not a catch but hell of a rare sighting.
  11. Thanks mate yeh well I had the luxury of choosing best fish in 2 months for first post.. getting out off Shellharbour over Easter can't wait some nice reds in reports here
  12. Can download 'irfanview' is free image editor
  13. Cheers for the welcome Peter. Yeh it was good, got some nice fish off BB before (maainly Kings/ Tuna) but nothing that good for a couple years. For the record best was a little Marlin caught on a little xmas tree lure right at the heads after a day trolling out wide with nothing to show. Have just moved this week from Hurstville Grove down to Windang, looking forward to exploring new fishing grounds got 10 days off soon. Whatever snipped the leader was better intial run than the wahoo, so maybe same but bit bigger. Clean sheared through it was, same lure type as pictured with Wahoo.
  14. Just joined up so first posting here. Had a day off at end of February, heading towards Peak with a few lures out... bang! At first thought was just a decent stripey but pretty soon the runs were far quicker and longer. First sight of him was pretty deep thought it was a Spaniard by the time got him up 15 minutes later was bigger than I had thought. Not sure weight but fed a couple of families and great meat it was too. Wasn't even 2km's off the coast when he hit. Later on got some Stripes, plenty Bonnies about, and busted off (wire leader!) by something else. All in all a great day.
