  1. excellent work brettman...can you please add hill60(port kembla),bass pt (shellharbour)...i really dont know how to put the pics like you did... I have been to the two spots at avoca...caught plenty of salmon and bonito...using whole pilchards and squid skirts (spinning)...
  2. mate, hill60 and bass point are excellent spots during summer. plenty of bonito, salmon, kingfish, and other species like bream trevally blackfish slimy mack. we normally go there from november to around march. it gets pretty full on weekends. best times to go there are early mornings and late afternoons. better to go there during weekdays so you can get a parking spot. hill60 can be very dangerous when the swell is over 1m. bass point on the other hand is pretty safe. to get to bass pt, you have to go there when the gates are open. usually from 6am to 6pm daily. winds and tides are very important. we normally go there 2hrs before high tide and stay 2hrs after. if the wind is blowing more than 20kph dont even bother going. its only gonna be a waste of time. hill60 (near the sewage treatment works off military rd port kembla) bass point (inside the bass pt reserve off bass pt tourist rd shellharbour) fishing rig whole pilchards on float squid skirt on float (spinning) only problem with the above spots is it gets pretty busy and sometimes 'common courtesy' to fellow anglers 'goes out the window'. you will have someone standing next to you (shoulder to shoulder) and you will get tangled with other lines most of the time. you will always have someone take your spot in seconds so you must have alot of patience or you will end up losing your temper and will either have a fight or end up leaving.
  3. Hi. Just want to know if anyone been fishing at the above spots lately. We r planning to go there this weekend if the weather is ok. We havent been that way since march. Thank u very much in advance.
  4. Mate, the best time to go beach fishing is when the swell is less than 1m. You can still catch some fish when its over 1m. You just need bigger star sinkers and need to check your rig and bait more often. When its over 2m, well it depends how far you travelled to the spot. Normally its just a waste of time. Always check the swell before you go. Sometimes the forecast is not right so when it says less than 1m, expect it will be more. Tides are a major factor too.
  5. @davido...mate just wanna let u know that stanwell got plenty of salmon yesterday. Hope u caught some already.
  6. @gilbey...mate try using smaller hooks on your rig and you will catch bream trevs flatty also. I've been using the pennel rig on a paternoster rig with a star sinker on 1/0 circle or suicide hooks. My mate uses no. 4 hooks and since we started using smaller hooks our catch rate have increase 10x.
  7. im sorry i cant tell you exactly where is the spot. all i can say is it is located down south of sydney. it is near the national park. hope this helps. my mate told me" to keep it a secret".
  8. must be my line. havent changed my line since last xmas. been using the same reel and line around once a month since then. no worries mate.
  9. Ty for d advice gro...been going out cronulla this past week...just gonna find d time to chase a jew or two...been fishing landbased since 2008...down south mostly
  10. Thanks guys. Trev is my fav fish. My biggest to date is 55cm. I caught it on 15lb line on pilchard. Im now targeting jew on the beach. I havent caught one yet. I need to put in the time which i really dont. We always bread for burley and yeah it always bring the trevs close to us.
  11. Mate, you want me to tell you a story. Ok ill give you one. We left home around 230pm sunday. The weather wasnt looking good. It started to sprinkle while we were loading our gear in my car. I asked my mate, do u still wanna go? He replied " its up to you" so i said it will be a while before we can go again. Its gonna be the third time if we cancel today. So off we go to the local fish shop and guess what? It was closing already and they already run out of pilchards. So we decided to get a block of pillies at the local tackle shop. Got the bait so off we went. Half way thru it started pouring. I told my mate it will clear by the time we get to the spot. When we got to the spot, the rain spot. We got our gear and head towards the beach. There were about at least 50 surfers. The waves were not that big. Less than a meter. We pick our spot between the surfers. We rigged up using a fav rig. Paternoster rig with 2 small hooks. My 1st cast, my line snapped. So have to re-rig again. While i was rigging up, my mate was on. 1st salmon for the day. So i cast again. Guess what, my line snapped again. Wtf, thats what said to my mate. My mate said check your guide maybe it is cracked or something. We checked but its all good. So had to re rig again. My mate was on his 3rd salmon by the time i cast for the 3rd time. This time my line didnt break. I was gonna just sitdown and watch if it did. After 5 mins, i was on for my 1st salmon. While i was bringing it in the hooks came off. I said to my mate, this will be one of those days. I rebaited and after a couple of minutes i was on again . I keep telling my mate, i hope the hooks will stay this time. Well it didnt. My mate said" change your hooks" so i did. I replace my circle hooks with suicide hooks. After 5 mins, i was on again. I told my mate it the hooks come off then thats it. Ill just watched him. Finally i landed my 1st salmon. For the next 1hr we were catching salmon almost every 10mins. The weather started to get really bad. The wind started topick up and we can see lighting. The surfers started to leave but we kept on fishing. By 6pm we bagged out on the salmon. So i said to my mate"time to go". He replied" one more cast". I said why not. We can hardly see anything and i forgotto bring my headlamp. I saidto my mate, lets pack up. So pick up my rod and started reeling in. It felt heavy but i cant see my line. It took me a while and when i finally saw my sinker i was surprised that there was a tailor at the end of my line. My mate said" do u still wanna go now?" i replied " yeah mate, my arms and shoulders are hurting already. So all up we caught 10 salmon biggest 65cm and 1tailor around 40cm. I lost 4 salmon. Hooks came off when the salmon hit the beach. All up, it was one of our best days fishing.
  12. Hi. Try stanwell park in the afternoon near the surf club. We bagged out on salmon there a couple of times. We use paternoster rig with 2 small hooks. One on the head and one at the back. Tie the tail of the pilchard on the trace using double half knot. We also get bream and flathead using the same setup. We usually catch aussie salmon when the water is calmer during the winter months. Btw, we use no. 2 to no 1/0 suicide hooks. Your success rate will increase hopefully when you try our setup.
  13. Hi. We were fishing landbased off the breakwall.

  16. hi. we only keep a couple then give away the rest of our catch. i usually keep the trevs and give away the rest. the spot we go to is in kyeemagh near the boat ramp where cooks river meets botany bay. best time is just before sunrise. it gets pretty full at the point there at times. regarding if its ok to eat the fish out there, well, my advice is just eat the fish you catch from there once a month. hi, weve been trying to catch a jew at the spot using squid and live yakkas but still no success. we get rat kings most of the time.

  19. Hi. A crossline swivel is a swivel with three rings on it. One on top middle bottom. U can buy it at ****** bigw or any tackle shop. You can search for paternoster rig on google or youtube. I always use the rig when i go beach fishing. Its very effective.
  20. Hi. Try under the spit bridge on the south side where the boats are. Its safe and easy access for the kids. They can also watch the bridge goes up.
  21. Hi. Try using a crossline swivel when u r using the paternoster rig.

  23. @mack, mate at least you caught something. I was at botany bay from 6am to 9am and caught nothing. Got really soaked by the rain and the waves plus the wind almost blown me away a couple of times. I saw half a dozen boats passed me then most came back within the hour. Must be really rough out there yesterday. I was fishing landbased near the third runway.
