  1. PFD must be made compulsory for all rocks fishos in order to save lives...just imagine those people who perished if they were wearing one. They probably be still here with us. I feel sorry for the people they left behind.

  7. One of my mate just got a boat so I asked him when will he take me for a ride. I waited weeks for the call and I finally got the call Thursday night. O told my mate I'm free Sunday but the weather wasn't looking too good. My mate told me well have a look so went to his place just before 5am Sunday. We loaded up the boat and off we went. Got to the ramp just before 6am. There were only two trailers parked at the ramp. The wind was blowing around 20kph. My mate asked me if I still want to go out. I replied its up to him. We worked out where to get some sort of cover from the wind. My mate said I better take some tablets just in case and wear the life jacket. The last time we went out in this kind of condition we almost lost the boat and I ended up in hospital. That was around 3 yrs ago. That was the last time I went on a boat. With that in the back of my mind I was having second thoughts. My mate said to me we are crazy if we go out and I said to him were just addicts. Anyway off we went. First stop was molli to get some yakkas. The ride from the ramp to molli felt like it was eternity. The waves were hitting the boat pretty hard. It was rough and I was glad when we got to molli. We found shelter finally. We quickly rigged up and filled the tank with yakkas in no time. We waited until the sun came up so we can see better. We went to the other side of molli but there were already half a dozen boats. My mate said were not the crazy ones. Anyway off we went to my mates fav spot. The last time we went I caught my biggest trev at 55cm at that spot. In 3hrs we caught bream up to 1kg and trev around the 45cm. We were using chicken strips my wife soaked in garlic overnight. We run out of chicken bait so we started to use pilchards. We weren't getting any bites so we decided to move to another spot. When we got to the other spot it was getting too rough so we moved back to my mates fav spot. We burley hard with bread and not long we got a school of mullet hanging around the boat. For the next hour we were catching mullet. It was a first for me. It was so much fun catching the mullet using 10lb line and using a size 8 hook with bread as bait. That's all we were catching so we decided to go home. All up it was a good day even though the weather wasn't that good.
  8. Mate, now is the time to go to bass pt and hill60. My mates went yesterday and caught bonito and salmon.
  9. mate, little bay the entrance or track we use is off mura mura place. just inside the golf course. you can see the spot on your left when you enter the golf course. be very careful going down and back up. you need cleats and very strong legs. you need to 'rock hop' to go in and out of this spot. travel very light. best time to go there is weekdays early mornings. check conditions before you go down there. bass point the gate opens around 6am and close around 7pm. just follow the track until you reach the carpark on your left side. very easy access. very safe too. just dont go to your right side where the waves usually comes in. alot of fishos and divers go to this spot. best time is also weeekdays.
  10. mate, we target kingfish bonito salmon at these spots. we also catch trevs, yakkas, squid, bream, slimys. we use whole pichards and squid skirts on floats. yes it gets pretty crowded at these spots so you really need alot of patience.best time to go is weekdays. goodluck.
  11. Mate, below are some of the landbased spots we usually go with my mates. These spots are good spots depending on the time of the year. We go fishing all year round. Beach Wanda Garie Stanwell pk Rocks Little bay Hill60 Bass pt Mate please be very careful when you go fishing off rocks. It can be very dangerous. Never go fishing alone and always check the conditions. Better be safe than sorry.

  15. hi raiders. its been a while since my last post. anyway, i decided to take one of my mate to avoca to catch his 1st bonito. weve been to avoca a couple of times before but we only caught salmon. th last time we went the waves were huge. we only stayed for less than an hour and decided to packed up when a very huge wave almost took most of our gear away. i told my mates 'we better go' conditions are very bad. that was about a month ago. i had sat and sun off so i told my mate well go if the weather is ok for sunday (19/2/12). i checked the weather sat night and the weather is looking ok. no wind and a chance of storm from midday. swell is less than 2m. i rang up my mate and told him ill pick him up around 430am sunday. we got to the spot just before 6am. the spot is already packed. i spoke to some fishos and they told me they were there since sat night. only caught monster yakkas. not even a single tailor. i told my mate 'not looking good'. while we were rigging up, the fishos on our left and right were starting to bring in the bonito. i told my mate, 'this is it mate' this is the time'. on my 1st cast, i caught my 1st bonito for 2012 within 5mins. i caught it on whole pilchard on the '2 hook rig'on a float. my mate was not having much luck on he bonito. he keep losing the bonito on the way up. he keep changing his rig. after one hour or so i told my mate to use smaller hooks. after changing his rig, he caught 3 bonito in about 30mins. we got plenty of mis-hookups and a couple of bust offs. my mate was 'over the moon'. he said to me 'mate this is the best fishing day ever'. my mate is used to catching bream trev yakka all the time. hes very good at it too. we ended up taking home 6 bonito for me and 5 for my mate. average size of the bonito was around the 50cm mark. a couple were around the 65cm mark.

    avoca

Hi. Went to avoca today with 3 of my mates. Got there around 5am. There were at least 20 fishos at the spot already. Quickly rigged up my alvey rod n reel combo with a whole pilchard on a float. 5mins after my first cast and I was on. My 1st sambo caught at avoca. It measured 51cm. I told my mates "good sign". Well, that's basically what we got for the day. Got half a dozen yakkas and some rocks fish. We decided to leave around 10am. The winds started to blow. A bit disappointed. I was expecting to bag out on the sambos and bonito. Anyway maybe next week will be better. Saw ray r n d bangus team.
  18. Stanwell park is one of the best spots. Try fishing in the afternoon near the surf club. We usually catch salmon tailor flathead bream using pilchards. My mate caught a 18kg jewfish on pilchard last month. Just gonna keep trying mate. Wanda Garie Newport whale are excellent spots too.
  19. Mate, U can get an alvey 600b direct wind reel with a rod600 rod combo for around $150. It's value for money. I usually use it on the beach and on the rocks. Caught plenty of salmon n tailor with it. I spooled it with 25lb mono. Pm me if you want one. I got a brand new one sitting in my garage. I bought it for my son but he won't use it. The combo comes with a DVD too.
  20. Nice 1 mate...salmon is always fun to catch...wait until u hook 1 around d meter mark...
  21. Hi, Can anyone help me find landbased spots in jervis bay. Im taking my family on the october long weekend. I havent fish jervis bay. Can you also please tell me which bait works best. Thank you very much.
  22. Checked the weather condition saturday night and it wasnt looking good for sunday. Winds up to 30knots, swell up to 4m. rang up my mate and told him. he said' well check sunday morning and hope for the best'. the phone rang around 6am sunday morning and one of my mate asked if im going fishing. i said 'no, the weather is no good'. he said'mate im already on the spot and already caught 2 salmon'. i said'thanks for telling me and for waking me up'. he said ' are you gonna come???'. i told him to ring me after 2hrs. around 830am the phone rings and guess who is on the other line??? my mate that woke me up. he asked where i am, i said still in bed trying to go back to sleep. i asked him if he caught anymore and he said no. still 2 salmon. i asked about the condition, he said, its windy and the swell is around 2m. i told him im not going anymore. anyway around 11am, i got a call from my mate who i spoke to sat night. he asked me if we are going fishing or not? i said its up to him and he said hell pick me up before 1pm. so left home around 1pm, pick up a block of pilchards and off we went. got to the spot around 2pm. the wind was blowing around 15-20kph and the waves were around 1m-2m. from 2pm to 5pm, the only thing we caught was weeds. had to cut the mainline and re-rig half a dozen times. 3hrs with nothing so i asked myself ' time to pack up???'. my mate was still trying to remove weeds from the beach so i decided to use what i call a '2-minute rig'. just tie a star sinker to the end of the mainline and make a loop around 30cm above the sinker. slide the hook in the loop and off you go. put a whole pilchard on the hook with the tail tied to the loop. anyway,, after 2mins, my rod tip started to shake a bit and i told myself 'another weed'. grab the rod from the holder and started reeling in. it was a bit dark already and to my surprise, a good size tailor around the 40cm. i yelled to my mate' finally got one!!!' my mate just gave me the look so i grab the tailor and showed it to him. my mate gave me the thumbs up. he was already packing up. so i quickly re-rig and after 2mins my rod tip started to shake again. this time i know it will be a tailor and it was around the 35cm. by this time my mate was already pack and ready to go home. so i quickly pack my gear and off we went. 2 tailor in less than 5mins but waited more than 3hrs. at least we didnt go home empty handed. i offered 1 tailor to my mate but he refused to take it. he said 'thats not even enough for your dinner'. got home around 7pm. cleaned the tailor and gave it to my wife and she pan fried it for dinner. yummy. nothing beats fresh fish specially when you caught it yourself. sorry forgot to take pics before i ate it. i was really starving. didnt have time to have lunch.

  24. brettman, mate, you're the man. thank you very much. most of the spots on this tread are dangerous but all you need is 'common sense'. that is, check the condition before you do anything. i do alot of rock fishing and i always make sure i got my safety gear with me. boots vest etc etc and i never fish alone. we always check the spot first before we start setting up. we always keep an eye on the waves and if the condition is bad we just move to another spot. brettman, there are a couple more spots i know that you might want to add. browns rock, la perouse julieannes rock, little bay thanks again for this tread.
