Mate...caught plenty of trevs tailor bream at that spot last month...on prawns bread pilchard...been pretty quiet there last week...run out tide early morning seems to produce more fish...

Mate...at least u caught something...maybe u should change your rig n bait to catch other species like bream trev flatty...try using prawns or chicken... About the reel...u can get a Penn slammer for around $100 online...760 model will handle most of the big ones... I still got a jw surf combo I bought back in 2008 for around $40...I caught kingys salmon bonito PJ on that n most other species... You just got to be there when the fish r there..

Excellent decision mr ed...better be safe than sorry...why not go beach fishing instead...fishing off rocks at night is very dangerous specially if you dont know the spot...

My mate caught a 18kg jewie on pilchard last winter at that spot ...just got to be there at the spot at the right time...

fishing for the next 5 days will b very difficult due to very large swells predicted by bom. you better off fishing off wharfs or under the bridges. Captain cook or tom uglies will b worth a try. Goodluck if u still gonna go beach fishing. Use very large star sinker on your paternoster rig. I use 2x2/0 octopus hooks on a whole pilchard to catch salmon tailor Jew n other species like bream n flathead.

Thanks Brett...I'll be trying it on the beach first...I don't have a boat...I usually use pilchards for bait off the beach and off the rocks...the only lure I use is squid skirts off rocks for bonito salmon kingy...

Use floats to catch the yakkas so u avoid getting snag...cast just far enough so u don't get snag...just be careful specially at night...

to Try port Kembla outer breakwall at night. We usually catch plenty of yakkas during winter. When using sabiki, berley hard with bread. Put small pieces of bait eg chicken prawn pilchard on some of the hooks.

using live bait off rocks, I use a large float with a no. 5 ball sinker between the float and the swivel. Around 2m trace with no 2/0 to 4/0 circle hook pinned on the front dorsal fin. Hook size depends on the size of the bait. Small live bait is always better. Live bait off the wharf, I use a star sinker attached to a sliding easy rig. Trace is around 1m. Hook size is 2/0 to 4/0 circle. Catching live bait I use no 8 long shank hook with small ball sinker. I use chicken or prawn for bait. Berley with bread. Sometimes I use small float with around 2m trace.
