  11. hi raiders, weve been fishing off wharfs lately. below is a qiuck summary. balmoral had the day off so the boss/wife asked if we can go fishing. so dropped my youngest son to preschool and quickly loaded the fishing gear in the car and off we went. took about 1hr to get to the spot. very surprised there was not a single soul on the wharf. its probably because the wind was blowing hard. anyway quickly rigged up and gave the rod to my wife. she put a chicken fillet for bait and cast. less than 2mins later she said'i got something on my line'.i quickly look and her rod was bending really hard. she said 'pls take the rod, i cant turn the reel'. so i quickly grabbed the rod from her and after a couple of minutes a 39cm trev was in the esky. gave the rod back to the wife and she cast again. i went back to rig my rod and my wife was on again. this time she was able to bring the fish in and it was a smaller trev so quickly remove the hook and back it went to fight another day. unfortunately that was it. after a couple of hours we packed up. left the wharf at 1pm. clifton got to the spot around 4am. as we got there, the security was just opening the gate. got to the wharf and there was no one there. we quickly rigged up and burley with bread. after about 1hr, the yakkas started to bite. we were using prawns pilchards for bait. as the sun started to shine, we got a steady bites of yakkas jackets bream. one of my mate managed to catch a oz salmon of pilchard. we decided to packed up around 9am. wallys got to the spot around 4am. as usual burley with bread. no bites for about an hour and as the sun started to shine, the yakkas came. my mate caught 1 keeper bream a couple of small trev that went back in. packed up around 9am. we were using prawns n pilchards.
  12. Hi. Just wanna which half of the pilchard is better? The head part or the tail part? thanks
  13. Nice haul mate...well done...my kids love eating oz salmon...just fillet then soaked on soy sauce for half hour...then pan fried...yummy...were not kiwis...lol
  14. @mondo...caught the bonito off the rocks...hotbite is right...I told him about it last Friday....hope the bonito will still be there this week...
  15. hi raiders...just letting you guys know that the bonito are hanging around little bay. got the call from one of my fishing buddy and told me. i couldnt believe it until i saw the pic and went to his place to get some bonito. all bonito were caught on squid skirt on float and he bagged out on both days. he told me that bonito are biting at first light and moves on after a couple of hours. heres the pic...
  16. Thanks for the advice. I'll have a go on using the Albright.
  17. thank you very much for the reply... i use uni knot all the time and it never failed me...i read somewhere that palomar is the best knot for tying lines to hooks but im still trying to perfect it... im using penn 10x 30lb for trace/leader...so ill probably stick with it for now... i bought power pro 15lb/30lb/50lb braid to test atm...my mates uses sufix 832...a bit more expensive than power pro... my other question is which will you prefer to use as an all rounder/ general purpose reel for braid??? i just bought a penn slammer 760 spooled with 50lb braid and will test it out this weekend. i mainly use bait for fishing. ie yellowtail, pilchard, chicken, prawn.
  18. Hi all. After years of using mono, I finally decided to try braid. Below are some questions I want to ask any braid user. What type of reel is best suited for braid? Spinning/baitcaster/overhead What type of fishing? Beach/rocks/boat Best knot for tying? Hook/swivel/lure/line Do you need a mono/fluoro leader? Can you use braid for trace/leader? Thank you very much.
  19. Mate well done on the bonito...just wanna know what time did u catch them??? I haven't caught a bonito during winter...usually bagged out during summer...at port kembla or avoca...one of the best sports fish u can catch...the bigger ones go really hard...
  20. Mate...put d loaf in a net then tie d net to a rope then just drop it in front of u...the loaf will float n just pull d rope every 15mins or so to keep the burley going...just avoid d net getting snag if u r fishing off rocks... For bait...use prawns pilchards n bread with a tiny sinker n use small torpedo float or pencil float with 2/3m drop...been catching plenty of trevs bream tailor using this setup...also use no 6/8 long shank...goodluck
  21. Well done mate...im also testing circle hooks from size 1/0 to 6/0...also have problems with bait coming off the hook when casting...

    Karuah

Hi. I'm taking the family to karuahjetty for the weekend. Can anyone please tell me fishing spots in the area that are safe for the kids and easy access. Can you please tell me what are being caught in the area this time of the year. Thank you very much.
  24. Elf...u don't have to cast very far off rocks to catch fish...most of the time they r just 10m from where u r standing...those fishos that were with u r either newbies like u or just plain silly...we were like that when we started fishing off rocks...we don't fish off rocks during winter anymore...we go beach fishing n target species like salmon tailor flatty...its a lot safer...take care buddy...
  25. Caught trevs jackets yakkas on prawns last week...mates caught trevs yakkas yesterday on pilchards n prawns...always burley with bread...
