  1. Hey Hodgey, How are the mexican waters treating you?
  2. Pre happs before pulling any thing apart it might be worth taking some up close photo's tgat you can refer to if required come time to reassemble. Also you may consider placing bolts in zip lock bags to make it easier to identify what goes where on reassembly.
  3. Are mac Tuna much fair for a chew?
  4. I found noting that was definitively the cause of the issue, but i found bits of an old impeller in behind the thermostat and also some jammed up under the induction point of the water pump. The bits of old impeller was not from the impeller that was currently fitted as it was intact. In the end i flushed the crap out of every thing I could, new thermostat and impeller. After dummy fitting the leg I connected up the gear linkage and ran the motor from forward thru reverse etc and was horrified to find I had no reverse. After thinking for a bit I wondered if the rod was threaded into the gear box. Dropped the leg to the end of the bolts, couple of turns of the shift rod did the trick. I must have spun the rod a couple of turns whilst i had it apart. Lernt a couple of new things along the way. After all that the boats going on the market. I bought a Hobie Kayak today
  5. I saw it on the news also. Only in Russia...
  6. Hi Rod, I changed the impeller on a late model DT30. It was very straight forward. There was a coupling at the front of the motor that un-threaded from the shift rod. Take note of which way the impeller turns and make sure you reinstall it facing the same way. When I did mine i took a few visual clues from watching some clips on You Tube. Here are a couple of links to previous info on this site that may come in handy: - http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=62027&st=0&p=434726&hl=+suzuki%20+dt&fromsearch=1entry434726 - http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=60691&st=0&p=427356&hl=+suzuki%20+dt&fromsearch=1entry427356
  7. I just took a quick look through their web site and struggled to find any thing remotely similar. Any idea the name of those fittings? Thanks
  8. Looks brilliant Vince. Where did you get the plastic fittings from that penetrate the esky, very neat. having the inlet higher then the outlet will help to oxygenate the water
  9. Nice Tip, I will be sure to test that seal. Thanks Again
  10. Some units are US specific only and are locked to only operate in that region. Just make sure if you do buy that it's cheap enough to warrant having essentially no warranty and I would imagine limited product support.
  11. Hey Gazza, No was a 40HP carbied 2 stroker. I was also comparing it with other motors i have had previously. The key is intact. As I bought the boat recently from a dealer, they offered to send me out a impeller and thermostat. Even thoe the impeller looks fine I will just change it over given the zero cost and that way it illuminates the impeller and I am confident in just how old my impeller is going forward. What have you been up to Gazza? Any project motors on the go?
  12. Has any one information relating to the eating qualities of Atlantic Salmon stocked in impoundments?
  13. Exert from: http://www.seafoodcrc.com/school-project-information/the-atlantic-salmon-industry.html About the Atlantic Salmon industry The Atlantic Salmon is so called because it is normally found in the rivers which run into the North Atlantic Ocean, both in Europe and on the east coasts of America and Canada. This fish hatches from an egg laid in gravel in a river, and spends the first one to two years of its life in freshwater. When it is ready to migrate, it then moves down a river to the sea, becoming what is known as a "smolt". It may then swim many thousands of kilometers in the Atlantic Ocean in search of food. When the salmon have been at sea for at least a year it starts to mature and becomes ready to reproduce. At this stage it returns to the river where it lived when it was young and swims back upstream until it reaches a suitable place to lay eggs. Atlantic Salmon have been continuing this life-cycle around the Atlantic Ocean for millions of years. However, man has recently transferred Atlantic Salmon to places very far from the Atlantic Ocean, like the west coats of Canada and America, Chile, New Zealand and, of course, Australia. In most of these "foreign" countries the Atlantic Salmon does not usually reproduce and multiply very well when released into the wild. However, it seems to survive and grow quite happily in fish farms. Detailed information about the Atlantic salmon industry can be found at www.tsga.com.au/info
  14. Thanks Plumb, I had that issue with an 08 Suzuki 30HP. The issue I have is present on the muffs and with the leg submerged.
  15. Testlab, thank you for answering to all my posts! A good tip on flushing thru the thermostat housing and I will be definitely doing that. Should I shell out on a new impeller or would I be able to get away with the current one?
  16. Hi All, I purchased a boat a couple of months ago with a 98 model Johnson (OMC era) 70hp VRO. I purchased the boat from a dealer who told me they had been servicing the boat for years and that they had changed the impeller amongst other items. ( I did not think to ask exactly when it was changed). Every thing seemed well and the tell tale pumped water etc. my mate has a BRP 40HP Johnson and I noticed the flow rate from his tell tale was considerably more substantial with a much higher degree of pressure. Comparing the flow rate of my outboard it appeared to have 30 - 50% of the flow & pressure of my mates. First thing I did was to rig the garden hose to the teltale to eliminate a possible restriction. The flow increased a little but not by a great deal. I then got the compressor out and stuck a fitting into the teltale hose and gave it a good blow out, repeated with the water and back to the air again. Cleaned out the telltale L shaped fitting also. The next port of call was the Thermostat, a little bit of a salt build up in the housing but not as much as I would have expected. removed it and heated it in water to check it's function. It opened but would not close, even after soaking it in cold water for 5 minutes. Thats and easy one, thermostat added to my shopping list. Having a look around I pulled the spring out that sits between the thermostat and the head. 2 or 3 balls of deformed black rubber where in there. Thinking it was the remains of the impeller I dropped the leg of. Noticed the pump cover looked to be reasonably new and was coated with lube on the joints of the pressure side of the cover. removed the cover and the impeller looks new with the ribs still present on the outer surface that rubs on the wall and also felt reasonably firm. (Refer Pics). I had been told the impeller was replaced and it certainly looked like it was recently as there was no real built up of crap on the covers etc. Grabbing the air nozzle I gave the pick up a good blast and there did not look to really be any thing much in there. I gave the section where the water feeds into the impeller a blast out and out shot more balls of rubber from presumably a old impeller. Is there any thing i have missed? Ideally I would reassembly and test the water flow rate out now, but I want to avoid having to pull the leg back of again If there is some thing else that needs to be checked whilst there. Any Suggestions?
  17. After persevering, I managed to get it apart. In the end I had to Remove the air box and unbolt the VRO unit to get it out of the way to get access. There was a 11mm nut clamping to the shift linkage which located the the shift rod with a pin.
  18. Wow, sounds like the adage you get what you pay for still rings true..
  19. The lighthouse you are talking about. Is it near the entrance to Greenwell point? I know the break wall from Comerong island off Greenwell point has produced many a solid Jew. If you where to head there, drop into Macullums tackle world at Nowra for some info as I know the macallum brother invested a lot of time into Jew from there and one of the brothers created a spreadsheet of variables each time they fished the area looking for a pattern. I would imagine that if any one could give you the hot tip on that spot it would be them.
  20. Is any body running an aluminium trailer? I read some where that an alloy trailer is roughly the same price as a steel unit (I have never priced one)? If so I would be interested to know the difference in weight and durability?
  21. Thanks for your reply testlab. The outboard is listed in the tittle but I will add it to the post to avoid any possible confusion. I have tried forward and reverse with no luck. Thanks Again
  22. Out in the boat on Saturday a over temp light appeared on the rev-counter which has a general warning light amongst 2 others. The boat is a forward steer and obviously has a remote for the outboard. There was no audible alarm just the light on the rev counter. I shut the motor down and removed the engine cover to gauge just how hot the motor was. The motor did'nt seem that hot to me but i thought I would give it 5 minutes with the engine cover of before firing it up again. On firing it up again the light was still displaying and the motor was cool enough to hold my hand on the cylinder head. The teltale had reasonable flow. ( I am replacing the impeller any way as I dont know exactly when it was last replaced) By the time I got home to flush the motor out the engine was stone cold and the over temp light is still displaying. I tried isolating the battery to eliminate the potential of the warning light staying on until it was cleared. I appears the gauge is a generic non OEM unit and possibly rely s on it's own independent temp sensor but does appear to be part of the original fitout as It matches with the trim and speed gauges. Can any one confirm if the remote would have an inbuilt alarm for over temp low VRO oil level etc? i recall reading about similar units having a limp home mode inbuilt to limit engine rpm in such a situation? 98 OMC era Johnson 70HP VRO
