  1. Looking to change the impeller on my outboard and have done a few in my time but mostly on late model smaller capacity units. This one has got me stumped as I can not see away to disconnect the gear linkage. I have read some literature on line that suggests on 80's models that the linkage needs to be disconnect just below the carbs. I have also read that there is a bolt that secures the rod to the linkage but I can not see any a bolt in there as the top of the rod is right is near the base of the engine compartment and the motor cowling comes up higher not allowing a clear shot to get in there. The VRO unit is on the left side of the motor so it's not possible to access from that side. Looks like a real bitch. I also read that some units had a inspection port on the side of the leg where a coupling is located connecting the shaft together. Not the case on my outboard as the linkage runs through the pivot shaft before re-entering the main body and into the leg. 98 OMC era Johnson 70HP Any recommendations?
  2. The second island is Brush island and is a couple of k's north of the Kioloa Boat ramp. Decent sized island and you should be able to get out of the wind. http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en&tab=wl To the south of the Kioloa Boat Ramp is Depot Beach, there also is a couple of islands in close and there is always reports of decent sized reeds from the inshore reef's especially amongst the Kayak community. If you are staying in Bawley point, there is a great little tackle store in the small shopping complex and I am sure the fellow that owns the store would be happy to point you in the right direction of whats firing in that area at the moment. 3. Kiola is a good place to launch from if you have a 4wd. A couple of islands just of the boat ramp. The first island generally has bait on the northwest side. There should be plenty of snapper around the islands in low light. 4. Most live bait and or Jig for kings. There is a couple of posts in fishing chat in relation to live baiting. You Tube can also yield a few visual demonstrations that may be of interest. With live baiting there is also the option to downrig to cover more ground. Jewwies are another species that would be worth while targeting in Southern Sydney
  5. How big is your boat and how far out are you looking to go? Swell looks marginal at this stage: http://swell.willyweather.com.au/nsw/illawarra/collers-beach.html A little bit of a consistent breeze thoe: http://wind.willyweather.com.au/nsw/illawarra/burrill-lake.html
  6. I was just looking at the swell forecast for my neck of the woods 90km's South and astounded by the difference in predicted swell. especially on the sunday: http://swell.willyweather.com.au/nsw/illawarra/collers-beach.html
  7. haha, you can still buy a house for $200K ( granted not much of a house ) upwards. The value is still quiet good compared to surrounding suburbs. Here is a link to whats currently on the market: My link
  8. Fisherman's Paradise would be hard to beat price wise. As you probably are aware, there is no shops etc in Fisho's. Did you have a price range in mind? I wish I bought in Fisho's about 8 years ago. You could buy a house on the street next to the water for $80k at that stage... Hindsight..
  9. A requirement when establishing registration is that the vehicle or trailer goes over a weigh bridge. There are of cause exemptions to the rule, such as new motor vehicles. Manufactures submit variation weights to the RTA to avoid every new car having to go over a weigh bridge. It may be the same for certain brand new trailers??? Any way point to my story, If I knew where my boat trailer rego papers where I would check the weight that is listed. I am thinking that the registration is established wholly and solely on the weight of the trailer alone. What you carry on the trailer is your responsibility? Given the options with fit out of your new boat determines the over all weight..
  10. I know what you are saying, I was looking at 5M boats a few months ago (Alloy) and 1 in 5 only seemed to have brakes fitted.
  11. Excellent, Will do that. Appreciate the advice. Thank you
  12. 2 weeks ago in a wind storm my next door neighbors trampoline cleared our fence, blew across my yard and smashed into my car. The tramp continued across the road through 2 vacant blocks and came to rest against another neighbors fence. One of the residents in the street helped me tie the tramp to a tree before it could cause any further damage. The damage to my car was significant and in the region of a couple of thousand dollars for the repair. This occurred at 9am in the morning and the neighbor who owned the tramp was called by his mother in-law to return home and take care of the situation. As the Neighbor had Home and contents insurance with NRMA, it seemed as thoe the claim would be straight forward. The neighbor proceeded to a NRMA office to lodge the claim. A few hours latter I received a knock at the door and the Neighbor informed me that NRMA had verbally stated that the damage to my vehicle could not be covered by the policy as the trampoline had left the neighbors property and collided with my car as an "Act Of God" and that I would need to claim on my car insurance. Problem being, the car is only valued at $4000 and as such was only insured for 3rd party fire & theft. Being a non comprehensive policy, the insurance does not extend to such an incident. Concluding that the neighbor may have gotten a bum steer I investigated the policy and read through the PDS. I could not find any thing relating to act of god and also noted the policy had coverage for liability. an example of liability coverage used in the PDS was, you are riding a push bike and cause a car accident. Under the liability you are covered for the event (or similar ). A couple of days later discussing the matter further with the neighbor, he informed me that he had contacted the insurance ombudsman. He informed me that I should also contact them. I saw little point as I am not the consumer but contacted them on his instance. They told me that they could not assist me and that I should contact the Insurance Law Center. Thinking I may be getting some where, I made the call and briefly discussed the issue with them. On noting the " Act of God " the lady laughed and indicated that the neighbor needs to make contact with the Insurance Law Center and suggested that the act of god clause should not be an issue. I approached the neighbor and passed on the information. That was last Thursday. Today (Wednesday the 4th) the Neighbor knocked on the door, informed me he spoke with a representative at the Insurance Law Center. He stated that the person he spoke with informed him that their was nothing he could do and that the Act Of God clause stood. Further in the conversation he informed me that he felt that he was not liable as it was an act of god that caused the trampoline to leave his yard and cause damage to my car. He offered alternative suggestions to rectify the situation. One of which was to upgrade my vehicle insurance to Comprehensive (at my cost), await the next high wind situation and claim the incident then. Given that he was talking about insurance fraud i suggested that I was not willing to do so. Not only would it be illegal, i would be paying approximately another 3 - 400 dollars for the extra insurance plus the cost of the excess plus the increased premium for 5 years as I would have a claim against my insurance history. At this point I am unsure as to what my next move should be. I was going to list the vehicle for sale but can not do so until the damage is rectified. It has been 2 weeks since the incident occurred. I can not find any legal documentation to clarify as to if the neighbor is Liable in the eye's of the law. I am hoping that I can arm my self with how i stand legally but can not afford to seek paid legal advice at this stage. The neighbor seems to be convinced that he is not liable for the incident. Common Sense suggests otherwise... At the time of the incident the neighbor also stated that if home and contents did not extend to the incident that he could claim he collided into my car with his. He also damaged the roof of his own car in an attempt to claim the trampoline had collided with it also. Any suggestions?
  13. Thanks for the Reply, Some information I received suggests the brand has changed hands a few times over the years. I was lead to believe that Stessl bought out Mayfairs as Mayfairs where looking to exit the boat builing game. 12 - 18 months latter Stessl where in a bad position and took a similar time frame to get back on track. Not long after this Haines marine was looking to secure a Transom for their Queensland Suzuki outboat distributorship and given Stessl's recent turbulent times they where Happy to take on the contract to supply boats. Clark's website when stipulating warranty terms notes their warranty Liability to their (OUR)boats. It goes on to mention 2010 which suggests the company changed hands at that point. Huey, What period did you stock Clark if you don't mind me asking? Right you are, Mayfairs are the manufacturer on the compliance plate. My boat has been repainted at some stage. Is their any where else that may give clues as to what model it may be? I found a review and all the images and the description sound spot on. http://www.boatsales.com.au/reviews/1999/runabout/sea-hunter/sea-hunter-by-clark-475-revolution-8989
  14. What brand is the leader?
  15. Sounds like you are all over it - What where you thinking in regards to floor layout? Just a flat floor front to rear or a casting deck at the front with storage underneath? - Was the hull filled with foam under the floor? - Any thoughts as to what outboard you may go for?
  16. I use to use fireline, When Exceed came out I found that a great improvement and am very happy with it. I bought 2 spools of Power pro and generally have been happy with, especially the fact they I bought them for $6 a spool. I have found with the power pro that I occasional do get knots on the reel.
  17. Hi All, I have a late 90's Clarke 4.9M runabout. I was trying to find information relating to the history of the brand. Where they a company renowned for making a good boat? I believe they have been in Business for 40 years? Where are they located? Really I would be interested in any information you might know about them.. http://www.clarkboats.com.au/index.php
  18. Hi Mate, Great project! It was only yesterday that I had the full floor out of my 4.9M Clarke replacing the fuel sender in the underfloor tank. I was up under the front console inspecting some of the wiring and it got me to thinking how it would not be that hard to remove the screen and console pod and convert to a center console. Looks like you previously had hydrolic steering? are you looking to retain the current set up and just have the hoses cut to length by one of those hydrolic hose companies? Are you keeping the existing motor and remote? If so you will need to source cables of a suitable length. Battery placement is not an issue. All you need to be aware of is the longer a battery cable is the thicker the gauge of cable needs to be. In regards to your 30ltr tank, It is an existing underfloor unit? It may be worthwhile getting a second tank fabricated up to mount in a similar fashion perhaps towards the front of the boat to help balance the boat out. The original tank can be modified to have a 2 inch hose ran between the two tanks along the center rib. this should allow you to retain the existing fill point???
  19. talking about Conjola, I was fishing the Northern side of Green island out the front of Conjola a couple of weeks ago in my boat. I saw a few people walk onto the island. The northern side of the island is inset and out of the swell. The place is loaded with tailor, Snapper early morning and late afternoon plus your usual rock species, Pigs, blackies etc.. Might just be another option for you.
  20. Interested to hear how you get on. If you get a chance, could you snap a couple of pics of the ledge? I have read a few reports on the ledge but have never seen any pictures. Good luck
  21. I don't know any companies in Sydney personally, But Serious Stainless one of the forum sponsors may be able to send you in the right direction if that cant help you out. http://www.seriouslystainless.com.au/index.php?article=content/about-seriously-stainless
  22. Here is a picture of a battery box if you are unsure as to what they look like. The website i got this image from retails them for $20. You can spend a little more and buy units fitted with a main switch to isolate the battery, Voltage meters, Built in chargers, switches to control nav lights, fish finders etc.
  23. If the Battery is not a sealed unit, It needs to breathe. A plastic purpose made battery box is designed to breathe, has clearance for cables to be run in and out of them. You should be able to pick one up for $20 or so. Save the tool box for your tools. The battery boxs also have provisions to screw or bolt the box into the false floor to hold it in place.
