  1. Nice fish and pictures. They look so good with their fins erect and still breathing.
  2. They stretch a little when they're wet and after a few uses but not a great deal. Once dry they also shrink back a little. If you can return them and get a bigger size I'd do that. If you can't just use them for a while........
  3. What kind of squid were you using? Calamari or Arrow?
  4. That's a really good first report, pics, video, summary. Well done.
  5. Thanks mate. Anyone know anywhere inside?
  6. Raiders, Can anyone point out a reliable spot to catch yakkas in Brisbane Water during the evening? Thanks in advance. Nibbles
  7. You've got 'em seriously sussed out, nice fish.
  8. That's a really pretty fish, better luck next time.
  9. Beautiful looking fish, well done, hope they start pouring in for you now.

    Jewies

There's so much info on here dude, use the search function. You'll see the same themes come-up over and over (e.g. fresh or live bait), take note of these themes and put them into practice. Pick one of the 50 odd spots that people mention, actually go there and persist, night after night, day after day, you'll get a feel for how things work and when you crack a pattern you'll be like a giddy goose all hopped-up on the good stuff. And everyone will enjoy reading your report. No one gives away all their jew secrets too easy, and besides, when you figure it out yourself it's infinitely more rewarding.
  13. That's awesome, 3 generations in a boat with a fish that you'll all remember. Congrats man. Also, apparently the wire pulling through the belly on X-raps is reasonably common. Keep seeing the topic pop-up on a few different groups/forums.
  14. Raiders, Caught this over the weekend near Akuna Bay on a little metal blade. He gave a few headshakes then gave up pretty quick. Sorry about the pic, was trying to hold him in the water to show the long blue fins all lit-up and managed to pull the hooks in the process so no landed pic. Body length about 15-20cm, and looked like a dart. Any ideas? Cheers Nibbles
  15. Good work mate. Last winter I was at a pretty popular blackie spot that always seems to have a thick soupy wash to it. I watched three competent fishermen for a while. Two were fishing cabbage/weed baits, the third was just using weed flies under a float rig. He was easily pulling in twice the number of fish that the other two were, if not more. The conditions were perfect, overcast, little wind, heaps of fish around (even I caught a few) and that thick wash over deep water. Looked as though if you can get all the conditions right the fly meant you didn't spend so much time baiting your hook or loosing baits to downs with no hook-ups.
  16. If you're land-based, off the ocean rocks. Try find a sheltered spot or two, with little to no swell, where you can cast into kelp and boulders. Rig relatively heavy, keep your jig moving and fish the tide changes. In my limited experience I've found that the above situation produces much bigger squid on average than those from the harbour wharves at night. Hope that helps.
  17. Just saw this now, great fish Luc, hope it's gone some way to easing the pain of the big king you lost.
