  1. Hi Raiders, So there's a bar that both wheels are connected to (I don't know what it is called). On the outside of this bar, it looks really rusted. However every other part of my trailer doesn't looked rusted at all, I think all other parts are galvanized steel. Can someone tell me what this bar is made out of and why it has rusted so much? Is the bar itself hollow or is it solid steel? (assuming its solid or it would have snapped by now) Should I replace the bar with a solid galvanized steel? Or is it not a big deal? Cause it has been like since I first bought the boat (2nd hand) which was maybe 4 years ago now. Thanks all for the input. Here's a picture if its of any help:
  2. This is it: http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v1/1474666793_1/Big-Sale-55W-automotive-lamps-H4-Xenon-Xeno-Lights-Bulb-HID-Kit-Digital-Slim-Ballast-Super.jpg Its 55W output. I received the replacement today, gona mount it low as I can.
  3. Ok so I've done more research... looks like I was heading down the wrong path! So, the boxes I have in the engine bay, they are called Ballasts. They provide high voltage to HID head lights. After fitting them a few months ago, 1 side of the headlights turns off after 15 minutes or so, leading me to believe it may be a over heating problem, as the engine bay gets quite hot. So after some research just now, heat resistant stuff won't work, because the Ballast box itself heats up extremely hot! So yer... I think the only option I have is to try and mount it as low as I can in the engine bay.
  4. Hi Guys, This is not boat related, but still hoping for some good ideas... I have a small box about card size and 1 inch thick, in my cars engine bay. I need to heat proof this box, any ideas? My mate suggested to use oven mitts... It will work but it will look not so good! Any ideas much appreciated, thanks.
  5. LOL Well said. I work in the city, start early and finish a little early... last 2 days the train stations were packed so early! And today, half the people on my floor was missing! I don't think they need a teaspoon, they need a bag of cement! Such drama queens...
  6. Onya Pete! You always seem to come up with the goods! Nice work Stewy, can never get too tired of that feeling all fishos crave, show us more!
  7. I got my bearing buddies a few years ago, and the first time I topped them up, disaster... The hole in the bearing buddy, which grease comes out of to indicate the bearing is full... the first time I did it, does not work!!! Instead, the grease blew the back seal. Clearly the spring mechanics needs re-engineering. I have since replaced the back seal and do not rely on that hole indicator at all. After years of experience, I only pump maybe once or twice worth of grease, say every 5 or 6 trips, that seems to work for me. It's too bad no one could offer such simple advice the first time round. They haven't failed me and I guess you do have peace of mind knowing for sure there's enough grease in there, as opposed to a non bearing mate.
  8. Hi Raiders, I'm staying near Rye for a week and was hoping to get some squiding in. Can anyone point me in the right direction of areas that hold squid near Rye? Cheers, Dave.
  9. +1 well said mate I too see a lot of half-assing... just not the right attitude for boating...
  10. ok then... I tried them shallow fried a few years ago, they are good eating. However, not worth the hassle of gutting so many to get a feed.
  11. Bleed them right away, and eat it as sashimi, it is quite good. Can be cooked as well, unlike king fish (goes too tough when cooked)
  12. I personally use a pump with a transparent tube, so I can see the oil going in with no air gaps. Hmmm maybe other raiders can offer some input. If anyone can let us know how you go about filling up your lower leg gear oil without getting any air in that would be great.
  13. I just read your original post and I'm taking a guess here, but you may have air inside your gear case. How did you change your gear oil?
  14. That will go well with my 3rd quarter bills which equate over 10k lol cheers for that info Geoff won't bother either.
  15. Good work buddy! Was your gear linkage easy to detach? Is it one of those where you un-tighten 2 nuts? My outboard is a pain in the @ss... the gear linkage is attached via a tiny hollow pin... makes it stupidly hard to get the shaft inside the linkage and then the pin both out and in. It was definitely a 2 man job. Make sure you put a tiny bit of marine grease inside the pump housing before you put it back together.
  16. First thing I do when I buy a car\boat is to a full service, so you know where its at. Don't muck around and replace the impeller. It doesn't cost much, maybe $150 from a boat mechanic, or $50 to do it yourself (youtube it).
  17. Good work mate! With all the knowledge on the internet (youtube, google) and especially Fishraider, you really can't go wrong in DIY stuff. Outboards are easy to service (easier than a car), PM me anytime buddy as I do my own servicing after much experimenting =)
  18. Hitting a school is a rare occurrence for most fishos, a great memory indeed!
  19. +1 well said and agreed with chocolate, these clowns need to address real issues, like our deficit and the privatisation of toll roads and energy companies...
