    Hi Tara

Never used a kayak before and just bought a pair of yaks for my daughter and myself.

we live at Kurnell and even though I love going wide game fishing in the boat I thought the yaks would be great for quick access and sessions in the bay.

we can walk down the road with the trolleys.

i bought a Scorpio terrapin for my daughter and the terminator 12 for myself from the kayak warehouse at taren point.

i looked at loads of yaks prior but liked the terminator 12 for included features and value.

i am waiting delivery of the 12 but tried the terrapin and enjoyed it, I found it really stable and my daughter took to it like a pro.

unsure about the dragon but the terminator was good value and came with paddle and backrest,2 fixed rod holders and a swivel Scotty type holder .

i also got an extra 5% off as I joined there website prior.

    regards

    Thanks Paddy,

I went with the dragon pro fisher as it was on sale at a big chain store. Smaller than the 12 but still a great Yak.

I ended up getting my stolen yak back that was the 12 so now the misus has one to float around in. :)

Im sure you will be happy with the 12 as i sure am.

    Cheers

  2. Looks to me that it's a paddle keeper too. Although i never use it when i'm actually fishing, only for moving the yak around on land. Paddle usually sits on your lap nice and no need to worry about having to unhook it if fighting a decent fish and it's pulling you straight into the trees.

Id take it out before doing anything and you will get a better idea of what you would like to do. I haven't done a single mod to mine.

I've caught around 30 fish on the one I'm currently using and it hasn't lost any paint yet. One of the other blokes I know uses one with all of the skin peeled off and still catches the same amount of fish and another bloke has just repainted his when the skin wears off :)

Thats a good idea with the repainting. When iv used them i found i was dropping a lot of fish. do you upgrade the trebles?

I was looking at those Basscadas the other day!

How slow do I want the retrieve to be on the surface lures? Do I play around with retrieve speeds and see what works on the day?

    Cheers,

    Wellzy

If i cast into a spot that i think will hold fish i'll let it sit for a good 10 seconds or until the ripples have pretty much gone and if no hit i'll give a little twitch a couple of time just taking up the slack a bit and let sit again, if nothing a slow retrieve just enough to get the lure working, which isn't very fast. I find it usually gets hit before i start a retrive though, but have had a bass hit the lure literally 60cm from the yak.

I have found that the soft shell cicadas "skin" doesn't last long, a couple of time through a snag and it starts to peel off.

  5. The taylor made Basscada is my go to for dawn bassing in the orange/gold or black/gold colours.

My cousin rates the jitterbug in black up near the hastings and has been smashing them up there this season.

Like macman said you need that lure right in the snag. Much easier to get a wayward lure back once your in the yak though.

    Cheers

    Tara
