  1. so you get a day or two of work and the weathers does this on ya...typical! well i had nothing else to do so i thought id brave it and head down to my local watermark Iron cove and snuggled in under the bridge, was using pillie fillets and caught and lost a nice bream withing the first half hour, it was on my second loose hook on a pennel rig and when lifiting it out the water the loose hook slid down the line knocking the fish off! so i persisted on braving the worsening conditions to be rewarded with a few nice silver trevally, 3 in total, biggest being 37cm which is the one in the pic. just wish i could eat the fish from near where i live! damn dioxins!!!
  2. Going to try for some harbour blackies tomorrow despite the rain, anyone keen to join??
  3. was fishing at manly just a few weeks ago, nothing was happening and so my non fisho friend was like here try one of my cheesy puffs (ball shaped cheesy crips) so i ditched the banana prawn slid on the cheese puff for poos and giggles. no joke had a 35cm flathead on the line within 30 seconds of it hitting the water unbelievable. i guess it was because it was floating just off the bottom in the surf and it just nailed lol. made for a half an hour stomach cramping laughing session. haha good times
  4. just hold the line above the reel when reeling in. does exactly the same job...
  5. so on tuesday morning 10am, i met up with 2 guys from here on fishraider Dan (dchu), and Simon at my secret spot for big harbour blackies. with the intent to show them all i know i about blackfish fishing in that area. Firstly we went to harvest some weed, normally i would fish where i find the weed, but at that time the tide was low and sun was out causing too much glare for the shallow water blackies. so with that in mind we headed round to a spot in the shade with some nice deeper water. We burleyed up with bread and weed scraps and proceeded to fish the ledges just off the rocks. braving the cold shade we stayed there for a good couple hours with no blackfish! was starting to think, "bloody typical, the one day i show some people what ive been up to the blackfish go into hiding!" lol. An so once the cold had got to us just to much and the tide had started to come back in we headed back round to an area in the sun. the water looked clear and shallow still but we gave it a bash. We burleyed hard and fished along the ledges. i was praying for some fish to prove i did actually know a thing or two lol. I flicked my line with a perfect floating cast. the float plopped nicely in the water, and i drew it back into position, an said to myself, come on, THIS is THE cast. i followed the float carefully watching for any slight movements, wishing..praying.. it twitched! staring harder i watched the float slide slowly under the surface, i lifted and BOOM weight and a BLACKFISH! with a quick play i brought in to show the guys, see, i can catch em! lol, it was a nice one measuring in at 32cm. one for pan! so we new the fish were in the area so i warned the guys to keep their eyes peeled, within 5 minutes simon next to be sent out a "yep yep yep" he was in! i ran over with the net and watched him play it, it was a nice one big 30's at least it took him left and right up and down, this fish wasn't giving up. and with a last dash fro freedom it shot towards the shore sending simon scrambling for the reel, but to late the fish cut him of on the oysters. Blackfish 1- 0 Simon. so we continued on for another half hour with a couple more downs but no more fish. Simon and Dan had to leave and so i stayed for a couple extra hours before dark. i told them as they left, ill let ya know how many i catch later.... haha. within 10 minutes of them leaving i started to pack up, with the intent to move locations, i cast my float out and left it whilst i saw to my bag, keeping an eye on over my shoulder. looked once, looked twice..waited a while then looked a third time. no float? then it popped up and went under again! so i grabbed the rod left into it BOOM, big bangs this was a nice fish! i played it for a good 5 minutes working it this way and that tiring it slowly, and so juggling the rod and fish i reached back to my bag to grab the net i had already put away, set it up with one hand and slid it in under the fish. LANDED, amazing. measured in at just over 41cm and was seriously fat, weighed in at just under 3lb, a pb in weight! and so i fished on into the evening with the tide ever rising and the sun ever falling, and the fishing just getting better and better, landed 6 in total and lost 4 or 5 more. a great end to a good day! although my tire on my bike did burst on the way home and so the walk from George st to Leichardt wasn't great lol. Thanks to Simon and Dan for a good day and sorry you had to leave as the fishing got good, we shall go again soon! oh yeah and i think i should get a trophy or something for the worlds smallest leather jacket caught genuinely in the mouth on weed..see pic. haha
