  1. Haha, probably don't want to get into fly fishing just yet, maybe when I have a full-time job (student), as I feel it would open up a whole new world and a new whole in my wallet. Hence, the reason why I want to target luderick on green weed flys, finding reel weed and cabbage is quite difficult, where I am located.
  2. Hi raiders, For some strange reason, amongst this summer heat, I've started to get an interest in catching luderick. I've mainly been using an 475b alvey and an 8ft spin rod, hitting up the esturaries. I have had no luck on bread, not sure if my hook is too small (12)? I've been looking around local areas for weed/cabbage and have had no luck. So, been an avid fan of lure fishing, why not take one more right? I've been wanting to try catching luderick on a green weed fly under a float now, but I don't know ANYTHING about fly fishing, "brands of material, which ones look better in the water/natural, etc etc." I was wandering if anybody can point me in the right direction, in terms of what to get and what i need to buy? Thanks raiders! Clem
  3. Funnily enough, after I got it back, I have some serious wobble if you give it a good crank. Although when I asked the service guy at shimano, he said he didnt do anything to the reel body, cause my problems were in the spool. He just set the body aside. And he said that this is because of the ci4. Although when I first bought this reel, I was looking at the normal 1000ci4 and they had some bad wobble in the shop too. At the time my 1000FML did not wobble in the shop.
  4. Thanks for the reply, it doesn't tighten when I wind, only when line is pulled out, sometimes. There is no problem with the order, only 3 pieces (1000fml). Actually I didnt notice the self tightening till I got it back I actually took it there for a different problem (drag was a bit iffy, sometimes it would have no drag at all when line was pulled out, although that problem is still solved with a new knob).
  5. Hi guys, As of late, the drag on my stradic ci4 has been sticky and at times the drag will tighten itself when line is pulled out. I have gotten a new drag knob, and drag stack thinking that might be the issue, but it has not solved it. However, I noticed that the top washer (one facing the knob) has a generous amount of grease on it, after getting it back from shimano. Should the top washer have so much grease on it? Causing the self tightening and sticky drag? Thanks for your help!
  6. Thanks for all the quick feedback guys! That's good news that the 3" plastics work, I seem to have an abundance of them, especially the minnows haha! Just another question, will the heavier jighead on a grub and the quicker sink rate turn the bream off? Is it really all about finesse? Cheers
  7. Hi guys, I caught my first bream on a soft plastic today (finally after 6 months!!), and the plastic that did the damage was a squidgy wriggler. Report will be up soon, once I get pictures uploaded!! Now to my question, I noticed the wriggler, on the drop had a good flutter of the tail, it was the smallest wriggler (forgot what size) and I used a 1/32 jighead. However, the damiki d grub didn't have much of a flutter on the way down, is it cause I rigged it wrong or the jighead wasn't heavy enough for it to cause any action? The d grub was bigger than the wriggler, would bream still take plastics of 3 inches? I am land based. Thanks guys!
  8. Hi, I'm still currently reading on the super trawler, but if it is approved to stay, is it a one time thing? Or will it come back every year? Cheers
  9. Rod has to go! Last chance, $50!

  10. Pflueger BC Rod price drop to $60, net sold!

  11. Hi guys, Back after a long hiatus, but managed to squeeze in a quick session after uni at Kogarah Bay. I was there for an hour and a half before sunset, I just worked a small patch of sand flats, picked up a small ~30cm flathead on the pause with a HB. Even though I was looking for bream, I was happy to be back catching fish. Also managed a couple of baby tailors on the HB, had one good hit on the HB but never hooked up, oh well!
  12. Did you catch the bream on a SP? Yeah, I have caught some nice flathead within the swimming area on high tide, and caught my PB bream down on the far side with a SX40.
  13. I find that the run in tide is better for when you are targeting bream and the run out for flathead. I've had a lot of luck using the SX40F from ecogear, atomic shads, I find that bream take a liking to shads and the tighter wobble action, rather then wide wobble action.
  14. Hi, I am a regular at kogarah bay, flicking HB and SP, winter is pretty hard in KB with plastics. Although I've found that fishing from the early afternoon is typically the hardest! If you want to catch stuff in the KB with SP (I'm guessing flatheads?), you have to go a bit earlier, try timing it with the incoming tide and the morning, i usually find that 8am is okay, usually earlier in the summer. I do have more luck with HBs and bream rather then SPs and bream in KB, depends what you are after though? I usually work KB the hardest in summer, which is coming soon, it has been getting warmer! Cheers Clement
  15. Hi raiders, Was just wandering if this was a common problem among dishes. If they have paint chipped on the corners of the reel foot? Cheers guys!
  16. Yeah I was by myself flicking lures, I was wearing a cap and a light brown shirt. Do you normally fish at Carss Park?
  17. You were at Carss Park today? So was I, I didn't have much luck either except a baby tailor on a lure. Today was especially hard because there was no run, it was just too quiet. I had a few tailor have a go at my surface lure, usually Carss Park produces good fish given the right time and tide. Oh and the fish jumping out of the water were mullet, if you want to catch them, try bread and a float.
  18. Thanks guys haha, this was at Carss Park. I used the ecogear SX40f, it was brown on the top and a slow fade to white.
  19. Hi raiders, Headed out on Anzac day to my usual place in kogarah bay at 7am. Nice, calm and cold. Thought I might use a surface to start the day and managed a lot of baby tailor, not much in fighting but great fun to see them take the lure. Worked along the edge, just walking up and down, working the lure. I switched to a ecogear hardbody lure and didn't have much luck, this was by 9am and people hard started coming in to fish and it was getting crowded. So I went to my spot x and worked the ecogear lure and just kept casting and working it back on a slow retrieve in different spots. On one of the casts as I was retrieving it back close to me. I got a take, a VERY nice take. It hit hard but didn't run very far, after about a minute u brought it back closer and saw some colour. It was a very big bream! My biggest yet!! It took another 5 minutes for me to get it up. Even though it was swimming right in front of me, it was still green. Once I got it on land, I measured it to be 38cm!! I was so happy, the size of it was just out of this world. I took a couple of pictures and released it. Great day, after that the wind picked up and got too much so I headed home.
  20. I tried what you said and there was nothing g with it, might have to go out again ad check it with a hardbody again. Thanks guys.
  21. The reel is smooth just on its own, it's just with a hardbody lure. It gets a bit rough, actually it's hard to tell if it's the vibration of the lure. Is it cause the sustain has a ci4 rotor, that it is more sensitive? My stradic FJ has no problem of this nature.
  22. Hi guys, I have recently been testing out my new Shimano Sustain 1000 FG, I've encountered one problem, but I need some help with it. When a reel has rough gears, will it feel rough just by itself spinning (not on a rod)? When i tie on a lure and go fishing with hardbodies, I notice the reel feels a little rough on the retrieve (although I was retrieving against the current) and when i use sp and use a steady retrieve, there isnt any roughness. All in my head?
  23. Thank you all for your great responses, they have helped a lot. I purchased myself a nice Sustain 1000 FG reel today and gave it a quick test out session and I caught myself a 30cm bream and a couple of undersized ones, the drag was great and reel was very smooth! Just a quick question, does rain cause any damage to reels? Cheers!
  24. Thanks for the reply guys, it seems like there is a lot of votes towards the ci4 reels. Are the new Sustain reels not worth the extra money? From my tackle store, the prices are as follows: Stradic Ci4: $200 Rarenium Ci4: $250 Sustain FG: $300
