  4. Hi guys, Been fishing the local waters, trying to target bream on lures (SP/HB/Poppers) without any sucess. There is a specific wharf I fish off, but there doesn't seem to be any structure around. Well, there is but it is out of reach (private property wharfs, moored boats). So I can't really cast towards the structure to lure the bream out. However, I've fished the SP right down on the bottom just to check out the bottom of the waters and it just seems to be flat with minimal structure. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, I've been trying time after time to try catch my first bream on any lure haha! (Guess this is why it is called fishing and not catching!) I usually fish the early afternoon or late afternoon (not near sunset), I've tried both incoming and outgoing tides, different moon phases, but not luck. Would it be better if I tried fishing the dawn or dusk? Would I be better off looking for a new spot? Thanks raiders!
  5. Just ordered my first batch of hardbodies and surface lures, that should be it... For today.
  6. I need to stop buying lures! Haha, it is getting to the point where I am buying them cause I want to buy them/collect them and not for catching fish (well that is the excuse anyway). And I have just gotten into poppers and surface lures, which is not good. Any tips from the raiders on how to stop?
  7. Hi guys, I'm just wandering if my spool (2500) is down to half the line left, should I tie new line onto the existing spool or just replace the line altogether? When is too low, too low? Thanks!
  8. Hi everybody, Went out to kogarah bay today at around 3, caught the incoming tide. There was quite a bit of wind and waves coming in. Bought my first popper on Saturday, Berkley pop dog, and decided to give it a go. Hoping to target some bream on poppers. About the second cast in, the lire got smashed and the reel started screaming. Thought it was a trevally at first but as I reeled it in, it was a PB tailor for me. The tailor gave my gear a nice workout, and it my first cat h on a popper. So stocked! Not much after that cause of the incoming thunder! Tailor was released to fight another day!
  9. Haha, that is pretty funny. Very eager little fish there, but yeah I will definitely not be afraid to use the bigger lures. Thanks
  10. Oh okay, we'll that's good to know. Since I just bought some larger lures and was wandering if they'd work in shallow water. Thanks so much for the quick response!!
  11. Hi I've just been wandering, when I fish my local waters, it's about 1-2m, would the fish still take a 75mm or bigger SP? Thanks!
  12. Oh okay, I usually see people on the wharf. That is good that there are flatheads there. Let me know how you go!
  13. Hi, my usual spot in Carss Park hasn't been firing lately. And I've always wandered if anybody has been having any luck at Captain Cook Bridge (landbased)? Anybody catch flatheads or any other species on plastics near Captain Cook Bridge? Thanks!
  14. Oh I see, that is good that most of my jig heads are size 1, 2 and 1/0 hooks. I am also having a bit of trouble with picking the right weight, it confuses me to say the least. I fish in waters of about 1-1.5m of water, so pretty shallow, and what would be the recommended weight jig head be for calm conditions in those waters? And how do you know when to change the size, when the winds picks up or the water level drops? Thanks!
  15. Hi raiders, I have a question in mind, does the size of the hook protruding from my soft plastic matter much? Will a fish go for a lure with less hook coming out or does it not matter? Thanks!
  16. Hi raiders, So after a hiatus from fishing, I decided to hit carss park and try to get back into it. Fished the last couple of hours of the incoming tide (real good weather today too), and was pretty quiet for the first hour and after that managed a baby flathead and not long I hooked onto another baby! All on plastics, seemed like a slow day for all the fishermen down there today. Nobody caught a thing! Oh and also, I forgot my reel when I got down there, had to drive back and get it! Doh!
  17. Actually I've noticed a lot of anglers trying to get bream on SPs, but funnily enough after my first trevally on SPs, I find myself trying to catch it. It seems so elusive, do you guys have any tips on trevally? Or is it just right place, right time?

    Gymea Bay

I was at Gymea Bay too, I was at the baths at around 6:30. Had a lot of surface action with bonito and tailor, but they weren't biting any of my lures or others baits. I had a bonito follow my lure straight to the surface but it was all look and no touch.
  19. How did you snap the two rods?
  20. I think it's a toss between the symetre and the saros, I found the stradic (not ci4) but they dont have 2500 models. Actually would either reels be too heavy for SP?
  21. Hi raiders, I'm looking to upgrade my Shimano Sienna 2500FD reel, I would prefer the Shimano brand as their service centre is close by, I have a budget of $100, $150 if I must. I've heard good things about the Shimano Symetre but I've already gotten used to the light weight of the Sienna and not sure if the Symetre would be heavier? I've also seen the Shimano Aernos 2500FA, which is as light as the Sienna, how is the Aernos? Thanks! Oh and PS. This reel will be matched up to a Shimano Catana 7' (1 piece) SP rod.
  22. Ah that's great to hear, I'll definitely be happy with my purchase then. Thanks for the help!
  23. Hi Raiders, Have any of you had any experience with a Shimano Catana Rod, the 7 foot spin? Or just those models of rods, good for beginners? Can it handle a decent sized fish? Thanks!
  24. Hi guys I am wandering if anybody knows if you can fish from Bonney st wharf in kogarah bay? If so what can I expect down there. Has anybody had much success in kogarah bay? Thanks!
