  1. Hey guys, went to carss park in the late morning to afternoon for the run out tide with my soft plastics. On the second cast of the day, on the drop I had a fish on. It was an underrsized tailor, first fish caught on SP ever. After about an hour or two I got a hit on the drop, a nice flathead. It was probably about 25cm, but i lost it when it shook it's head as I was bringing it up. After about another half an hour. I got hit with another flathead, this one was a fighter, brought it up, it was about 30+cm. Good way to end the day as I learn my way around SP!

    Your rods.

Hey guys, just out of curiousity as the rain pours on! Because I have recently switched to SPs, I have a few bait fishing combos sitting at home while i use the SP. I'm wandering what do you guys do with your "old rods"? Or are you like some fishermen who take enough combos to invade an island? As of late I've been using the one rod when I'm out.
  3. Thanks for all your reply guys! Well I've tied the mono backing to braid using Albright knot and the mono leader(cause I have heaps left over, save some money first haha) to braid with Albright again. Will the Albright knot be alright? I've found that it won't work on my super tip rod. I might try slim beauty next time?
  4. I've tied an Albright knot for mono backing to braid and braid to leader.
  5. Okay, thanks mate! Hopefully after this wet weather patch I can go and give it a go! Oh, also I forgot to ask, are the knots for fluro the same as mono? Or will I have to learn a new set (like braid)?
  6. Are Berkley Vanish, Sense and Fireline considered flure line or braid? I'm a little confused haha. I might use mono for the leader as I have been reading that the fluro's knot strength isn't too good. I'm not too sure.
  7. Okay, thanks! So in the end my line on the reel should be looking like: Mono backing->Braid->Leader? What kind of leader would you recommend? Something like Vanish or Fireline? Or just mono line?
  8. Hi, I am starting to learn the art of SP and I just spooled on some braid. I was reading through the forums and noticed a lot of people using mono leaders when using braid line. So I was wandering do I need a mono leader on braid line when using SP? Thanks!
  9. Hi, I just wanted to ask if you guys could help me clear something up about float fishing (not blackfish). When I fish with a float, should it be tight lines or loosey goosey?
  10. Hi, I was wandering if anybody has fished Claydon Reserve before? It seems like there is a small platform ideal for fishing.
  11. Thanks for the encouragement guys! I did happen to catch a 41cm trevelly last week at the same spot (biggest fish I've ever caught haha, been fishing for about 3 months), but gotta keep persevering!
  12. Hi guys, Trying my hand at giving a report and hope to keep at em'. Well today I went to Gymea, landbased, and fished the the afternoon during the in and out of high tide. Drifted pilchards and some prawns but didn't catch anything big enough to take home. Caught a few undersized breams and an undersized trevally. Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong or if its just harder to fish from land. All in all, good weather, till it got dark and saw lightning. Cheers!
  13. I sort of have a clearer picture on what to do, I went to BCF and grabbed me some floats and some stoppers. Tomorrow the weather looks good so I'll give it a go and let you know how it goes! Thanks so much for the info guys, you're all legends!
  14. Oh and also, I get confused whether drifting your bait requires a float?
  15. Oh, I think your referring to if I'm on a boat? SOrry I forgot to metion I'm landbased! So I won't be able to get my burley out very far.
  16. So would that mean letting the line go slack or keeping it tight?
  17. Hi, I've been trying to understand what drift baiting is and looking it up on the internet, but it doesn't really help. I was wandering if if is the same as just casting a line with sinker-swivel-line-hook in the water and just keeping it tight, is that drift baiting? Thanks!
  18. Hi, I've been trying to find information but with no luck on what the difference between thick rods with less ring guides and thinner rods with more guides are? (same line weight) Thanks guys!
  19. Is there a thread or post with the sinker sizes and weight in grams?
  20. Hi Raiders, this is my first post hehe! This site has been a great help to me and I wanted to get some advice on my set up. I have a Meridian 7" Supertip and when I use a sinker that is a bit too heavy the rod bends after i cast and set it down. And sometimes the conditions call for a heavier sinker and I was wandering does it matter if I use a heavy weight with windy conditions on a "thinly tipped" rod or should I use a sinker that allows the rod to stay upright and just let the bait travel with the current? Thanks guys!
