    Garie Update

that's is true! for there anoyingness the birds where quite amusing those crested turns I think they are, are not shy at all would try n steal my pillie at any distance and on the cast lol I got some leader like you recomended to I wasnt sure what to get so got the guy at the store to help me and ended up with some spiderwire flurocarbon with a 40lb breaking strain and my main line is a 30lb sufix mono whats a good way to rig up for surf fishing, I know there not everyone's preferred fish but I do like salmon so a rig for them would be good as they seem to be plentiful if you can find them haha
  2. Hi dude's Just a question on fluro carbon leader hows the best way to use it I usually just tie my rig up by taking 2 swivels and cut 2 lengths of line about 15-20cm long, I then tie one end of the cut line to a medium sized pyramid sinker and the other end to a swivel I then run the main line through the swivel and tie it off on the other swivel, then I attach the other bit of line to the 2nd swivel (running through the sinker swivel) to which I attach the hooks, would I use the leader instead of my 2nd piece of cut line? I bought some spider wire ultra cast fluro carbon today and used this method and found that the leader actucally wrapped around on itself the sinker and the swivels alot more than when I use just another piece of line from my reel, the swell was quite large today and a fairly strong pull to the left under the water so maybe the condition's were not right, any tip's or advice would be greatly appreciated tight lines guys
  3. G'day guys Went back out to garie again today was there from about 12-4 no luck but the seas were huge, my bag n gear that I thought was safe above the water line was swamped 3 or 4 times myself included haha there were a few other people out but no-one else was having any luck... hope other people's day was more productive!!
  4. actually a little bit of chilli does sound good, I spose you could go crazy with whatever dry herbs you like at the end of the day
  5. oh ok kool, how would I rig something like that up? the guy at the tackle shop showed me an easy way to rig a line up for surf fishing not sure if its the best way basically I take 2 swivels and cut 2 lengths of line about 15-20cm long, I then tie one end of the cut line to a medium sized pyramid sinker and the other end to a swivel I then run the main line through the swivel and tie it off on the other swivel, then I attach the other bit of line to the 2nd swivel (running through the sinker swivel) to which I attach the hooks, would I use the leader instead of my 2nd piece of cut line?
  6. not really in the area your thinking but I reckon a top place and safe to take kiddies would be down dapto way on lake illawarra at the tallawarra power station, it's a gas electric plant n they suck in water to make steam to power the turbines then pump warm water back out into the lake, there's allways plenty of smaller bream around that should keep the kids entertained on light gear and with a prawn on a light weight your allways guaranteed bights, there's also flathead around and the odd legal sized bream Iv pulled 3 plate sized bream out of there and a plate sized flatty, and because of the warm water and the fact lake illawarra is open to the ocean you get other stuff there to I saw my mate nearly cry when he lost a school sized jewfish on light gear one night down there!! if you want details of how to get there where it is etc. hit me up in an e-mail n Ill give you directions tight lines matey
  7. my fave way of doing salmon isnt all that fancy but its good and simple and is awsome if there fresh, just fillet the salmon and in a plastic bag put a bit of flour, generous helping of lemon pepper and a lil bit of salt n pepper to if you like, shake the fillets around in the bag to give them a nice coating then lightly pan fry with a little bit of oil, thats how I did the one I caught yesterday for lunch and it was really tender and moist. If you like garlic a pinch of garlic salt instead of regular salt in the bag goes well to
  8. yeah man there were quite a few people down there yesterday, I see your at livo Ill be in villawood this weekend, if your keen we should go down there together Im pretty keen to head back out there sometime this weekend
  9. cheers stainless I will definately give that one a shot... grooper I dont really have top of the line gear just some 15 kilo suffix brand mono on a beach reel I didnt think you needed to use leaders with monofilament or do you?
  10. cheers groper and thanks for the initial report that put me on to them! will probably try n get down there on the weekend to try and fish a rising tide opposed to a falling one, yeah I did have a book that coverd some good knots somewhere I think I may have leant it to a freind, I only know how to tie a blood knot really are there any knots or variations simmilar to a blood knot I could use for a bit more strength and security?
  11. "Its because I'm an idiot and cut the wrong end to kill/bleed the fish.I'm known for being a cluts" haha noice we are going to get along just fine, thats a stonker of a salmon there dude
  12. hey guys just a quick report went down to garie beach this arvo at around 3ish for a fish mannaged a nice salmon and lost a couple more one to bad luck others to my crappy knots I think... the dude fishing a little bit down from me pulled in 3 sammbos and an undersized flathead so yeah not a bad arvos fishing and well worth a checkout I reckon! happy fishing everyone!!
  13. cool cool Im probably going to head out there this arvo n this wind be damned Im to keen for a fish hahaha pillies for bait but should I send them out on a gang hook or just as cubes?
  14. hey guys do the salmon usually hang around in the same spots or do they move around alot? if theyv moved would it be worth checking out the other beaches in the natio? also what sort of gear/tackle should I be using? Iv got a couple of eaustry rods from small to big I think 7ft's the biggest with 2 reel's one with 2-3 kilo mono and one with 5-6 kilo I think (was on there when I got it haha) Iv also got 2 beach rod's one 12ft one 10ft both with about 15 kilo mono... any help would be greatly appreciated have made it a goal to land a decent salmon haha or at least some to eat lol happy fishin guys!

  17. hey guy's Iam down for the week in dapto and wondering if anyone local is keen to go for a fish this week Im free anytime during the day or night and keen to chase anything, I have all my own gear but dont have a boat so will probably be trying landbased spots unless theres someone who has a boat and wants to fish in which case Im happy to chip in with costs and cleaning, also any advice on which spots might be worth a look at would be greatly appreciated as havent had much luck down here yet, anyway would be great to hear from someone!! happy fishing dudes!!
  18. hey mate I got a tip from a guy on here about botany bay... I dont know what your chasing but he said if you head up to where there container terminal is more on the left hand side of it find a bit of reef and anchor up n he said to berly hard n send out a filleted pilchard on light gear n you have a good chance of hooking up some trevaly and might get the odd salmon thrown in also, nd if you can get your hands on some fresh squid to set it up in a holder on medium to heavy gear with the odd chance of maybe hooking a kingy... also if your looking for a mate to come fishing with you and chip in on cost's Im more than happy to help lol good luck with it anyway

gunna show my newbiness to and ask lol, how exactly do you fillet a pilchard? I usually just cut them into pieces, would you fillet it like other fish as in start at the head find the spine and work your knife down to the tail trying to stay on the spine? what sort of hook/size should I be looking at to put a filleted pilchard on...
