  6. do you need a boat to join in on the day or can you give it a crack from the shore if your povo? hmmmmmm tho I could take out the inflateable row boat I bought from aldi the mighty sea weasel may win the day haha doubtfull
  7. oh ok kool thats pretty sick this one wasnt just hanging about but seemed to be on the hunt n there were a few fish jumping round where he was swiming guess you can only take it as a good sign really, if the water's good enough to sustain larger mamals like that then there should be plenty of fih about haha
  8. yeah same happend to me yesterday at windang breakwall bugger of a tern took a ganged pillie n got a hook straight through the beak for his troubles, it was definately like flying a kite haha actually stood there for a couple of minutes looking at it flying round the top of my rod squaking thinking how the **** am I meant to get this thing off with out just letting it go with a mouth full of hooks, ended up pinning him down and just taking them out like you would a fish n chucked him back into the water he sat there for about 10mins then flew off think it might of had some shock plus my dog barking and trying to eat a wing didnt help haha
  9. weather turned a bit arsey so I didnt end up coming out, yeah davido you should head out the break wall even if its only for a change of scenery, last morning I was there I got to watch a dolphin cruise round the bay which was cool especially when about 10mins after the dolphin left and a seal came in and did the same sort of cruise was quite a cool experience as I didnt think there were any seal colonies in this area? which beaches are you talking about tunastrike Im new to the area so dont really have my bearings of north south east n west yet, never caught a jewfish before would be cool to do, and yeah tway those turns are a bugger I try to wait till there about to dive on it then give it a rip out of the way one way or another usually keeps it realitvely safe coz I think once there commited to there dive they have a bit of trouble turning and changing direction n that, I havent usd garfish down there but you tend to get constant nibbles of pillies I prefer the salted ones there a bit tougher n will hang on in the swell tight lines dudes
  10. G'day guy's Managed to get down to the break wall at windang this arvo for a few hours no fish landed but a few bite's and the people up the very end managed quite a good salmon and a few undersized bream from what I could see might give it another go 2morrow morning, managed to catch a bird who took a fancy to my half mangled pillie as I was reeling it back in got himself a mouth of ganghook right through the beak for his efforts.... that was definately the interesting experience of the arvo but the bird was realesed safely, didnt know leader was invisible to birds as well as fish ay!!
  11. that's a rather ingenious idea haha I like it might give it a try if all else fails
  12. and then a step to the right?
  13. oh ok sweet I get ya instead of trying to land him straight at my feet get him in close n left him up to the right or left, cheers for the advice mate
  14. yeah true might be a bit of trial and error but yeah I spose with the heavy line I should be fairly safe in just hauling them up
  15. noice work matey, heres hoping for the jewies
  16. yeah the salmon are about off most beaches Iv heard Iv caught some at garie not to sure about the tailor but yeah salmon are around
  17. hey guys I was fishing off the break wall at windang the other day and was wondering on what the best way to land a fish off the break wall would be(hooked up to a salmon but with my dilly dallying of not being sure how to land him lead to him getting off). Im not sure whether I should just try n pull them up over the rocks as best I can on a good wave n bringing them up that way or am I better off playing them down the wall and landing them on the beach, Its hard to get down to the water on the break wall as there arent many spots to get down to the water to and most of the lower parts are getting hit with waves fairly regularly, I was thinking maybe a net or gaff might help? Im mainly chasing salmon on 30lb mono with a 40lb leader off either my 10 or 12ft beach rod
  18. great catch mate looks like a top arvo good tthing that rain stayed away

    Garie Update

I did try the new leader, I put a post up about it in general fishing chat including the way I had it rigged up, I found it was get tangled round my main line fairly easily but that could of been due to the large swell and strong pull
