  1. Hi. Just a quicky. Is that concrete ramp in on the fresh side now. Forms and mesh were down last time we were there. will make it easier to launch in the mud. Macka17
  2. Hi. The Daiwa mid range reels probably pick of the bunch.I have several Satists. Saltigas. and a Shim Torium 30. Do not like it much. Loaded up on a decent fish under boat. 6.3 to 1. No guts. Have to use waves to get it up. I also have an Okuma Gold 15 2 spd for missus. She loves it. Prefers to my Accurates, same size. She's had some decent fish. Including couple spoolings with small Marlin. Still smooth as. Never missed a beat. So Far. One thing with the Okuma's. I've opened the few I've bought b4 using. 4 so far. (Wouldn't buy one of their baitcasters again. Ever... YUK....) Every reel was DRY. not a speck of grease in them. That could be problem. Strip and grease (Even the drag.). B4 use.. Macka17
  3. Hi. I got an Accurate 870xn Limited Edition last year. Black/Silver. No. 00017. It's sitting on a V-Fox Jig Stick. Magic........ There's no way that'll collect dust..It loves the deep water Cobes, and Spanno's. Real Giant killer that one.. Macka17
  4. Hi. I've made a coupla 5120's Tipped to 10ft. running an ABU 9000 red 2 spd off them. Brilliant stick off beach etc. Don't need any longer for lure fishing... Cought Mulloway and Kingies, to over 70lb years ago.. On the ABU. In SA. Walking the beach, chasing the fish. Wish they still made that model reel. It's Not too good on rocks though. Unless you nurse it a bit. (I'm a bit heavy handed and use to go to some hairy places.) FSU 5120 is a very thin walled blank for it's dia. Easy to knock and weaken. I used to use a Fenwick blank for rocks. Can't remember model no now. (It was 35plus yrs ago) Also 10 ft 6 in long. See Ya Macka17
  5. I got one Torium 30, and two Saltist 30's High spd/low speed. Torium sits in cupboard.. Regards Macka17
  6. Hi. The thing that separates them mainly. Is. Where do you buy them from. Locally Yes. $1000 and more. O/Seas nearer 1/2 to 2/3rds that. Don't worry about warranty on them. Reputable dealers will give you 12months. same as rest of world. Top ones never go wrong. unless you break them normally. I get International warranty for my Daiwa's. Covers them everywhere. Dealers here give more warranty, to suck you in. and try to cover up ridiculous prices the importers make them pay.. I can buy a top line Jap reel. from the States For 2/3rds or so of Australian prices. Delivered... and that's after it's been from Jap to States. Had his profit added. then shipped from States to here. Hmmmmm. I've just recently had two Accurates, and a Tiburon delivered to door. For under $450 US each. Price them here. Plus 1200yds 80lb braid Tuff Line. for $170.(I've got a spare one, if anybody wants it for that price.) See Ya. Macka17
  7. Hi. Better than a gym. and gives you longer Constant pressure ,hence Stamina type muscle form build up. Specailly for deep jigging. Is either Outrigger canoeing. or Dragon Boating. WHichever you have where you live. It does chest shoulders arms Stomach back and thighs.... One of the best all over. (Apart from Walking type )exercises there is. 1 to 2 hrs Constant. Hard workout up to 4 times a week. And that's not counting the Piss ups and such when we go away on Regattas.. A lot cheaper than gym too. I'm 67 this year. Go deep jugging regularly with younger blokes,35 to 50. and outlast mot of them when we're on. Macka17
  8. There should be several suppliers in your area. Check them all. They can vary quite a bitin $$$ per length.. Also look in scrap Yards. Most have a Stainless section....We used to pay about 25% on new price. In weight. For all offcuts. Also. Make sure it's 316. There is another one some use. 304 . But in weather it forms a brown stain.on surface. Normally comes in 6 mtr lengths too. and get min 1.2mm wall. Unless you a good welder ot have a TIG. I always used 1.6mm wall. Dearer but a lot stronger. and can Stick weld it easy. If you have trouble with smooth bends. You can buy, Ready made bends of different angles. and just weld them in. Looks a lot better, unless you have a spring bender. Enjoy. Macka17 PS. Haven't seen a piccy of Harry for a while. He was my Favourite Welsh singer, along with Tom Jones, and SHirley..
  9. Hi. Goretex is just a brand name for the Breathable Material lining the good ones. Some have up to 5 layers. If you want to be dry in ALL weathere. Go to a Yachties store. and buy a mid range Coastal Jacket. $250/300 ish. (Can be a lot more) You'll get a hood. Breathable liners and Guaranteed dry, under all conditions. My offshore jacket with harness built in. Cost me over $650 14 yrs ago You get what you pay for... Macka17
  10. Hi. Everything Big. and strong.Daiwa reels. YGK Braid. BIG Poppers with Owner hooks Rings. Rods to suit yourself. I like Nitro and Live Fibre. Sticks Here in Aust. You'd have your own choices over there. Macka17
  11. Torque up a three leg Puller. and belt centre of with steel hammer. Rubber mallet no good. You trying to shock it off. Rubber absorbing all shock. Tighten. Belt. Tighten Belt. till it's as tight as you Game for. That don't work. Take it to wksp's and let them heat it properly. Then tension it off. You could try Ice Packing flywheel. then belting it. Shrinking the aluminium. MAY? work. Heating it only expands and locks on more. here's no screws holding things on in face of flywheel is there. Macka17
  12. Hi. Only thing I'd add to that is. Lights... Spend extra and get LED type. They can be left on for a week, with no damage to battery. I know.... Good one is the clear trailer ones for trucks. Flat mount. Radiused (Half moon) and give a good light through cockpit when mounted at transom below gunwhale. I use the little round self adhesive ones beside each seat. Touch front to turn on With knee. Touch again for off. Perfect for rigging. in right place. without stuffing everybody elses night vision. Macka17
  13. Hi. Go to Google. Bonzerimports. He's a repat Victorian. his prices are complete with postage to door.. and come with warranty. Regards Macka17
  14. Hi. Anything can feel smooth in the store. Smoothness isn't everything. But when they working, with a load on. They smooth/Strong as. and no drag restriction. Double drag. Just load it up till braid busts. Only Shimano reel I'd touch is the little 12 2 spd Game reel. Anything else. I go elsewhere. There's better out there. I got Saltiga 20.30.40. too. Trying to find a Jap 15. It has the auto. Into gear when turning handle after casting. I'd rate them near top of heap in that style too. Macka17
  15. Hi. I got a V System 4500. Smooooth drag. Fishes well. But. Main shaft is very skinny. Compared to Capricorn 4500J I use. Don't think I'll be using it for jigging type fishing. Regards Macka17
  16. Hi. We used to do it years ago at Murray Mouth for the Big butters. FSU 5120, Tipped to 10ft 6in. 20lb Maxima. and (Myself) ABU 9000 red. Could lob 4 oz Mr Twisters. All Day. to other side of mouth. Then crank 'em back. Varied from 110 to 130 yds. (4120's had a bad habit of cracking off at foregrip) when loading them to cast) Other rig was 12 ft Sabre (Can't remember model) 20lb Maxima again. With Mitchel 499.Or Big Daiwa Gold. Lobbing 4 oz Wired leads and mullet bait. outside third rollers. Used to use another line prior to Maxima. Light green. But it stopped being available, (Can't remember name) Maxima came out at about same time, so most of us changed over too. Great soft, casting line. Ande Leader. Hang 3 to 4 ft off end of rod. More when proficient. Twist body back, to right/left. Back swing till rod fully loaded. then Twist forward again.. belt it out hard. Right arm and SHOULDER. forward. Left arm back to hip at same time. Shoulder gives it the loading. Extending arm gives the speed. Did for me anyway. Release is practice. High, or flat. (Wind). We used to do it for hrs. Sometimes I used to think. Please don't hook a biggie. (50 to 80lber) Till you did. Then you weren't sore any more. This was all over 30/35 yrs ago. When I was your ages. Regards Macka17
  17. Sorry Ross. Not really cardboard. But. the quality of. Absolute rubbish. I've done mates boat too. I have Stacer. BowRider 5.25. 2002. he has same, 2004. His going same as mine. He has E'Tec 90. I have Opti 90. Glad I got the opti. Macka17
  18. Hi. Quinnies use Corrugated cardboard for flooring. Mine's a 2002 Bowrider. Replacing last section as i speak. It's absolute rubbish. Last time I went out. Walking to front of boat. Went right through floor. Only the carpet protected my ankle. I'm using 1/2 in Form Ply. marine carpet and glue. and I'd recommend EVERYBODY with a Quinnie, or a Stacer, to check their flooring. It really is corrugated cardboard. and carpet makes it worse by holding water in it. Rest of boat fine. Regards Macka17
  19. Go Down S.A. and hook up with a Tommy Rough. Average 5 to kilo. Expand his fight to make him about 20 kg. Then vote. Pound for pound. They would be one of the most tenacious. Airborn. Tailwalking fish on the planet. Macka17

    Saltist Reel

Hi. Don't know about Saltist 40. But I have them in 30. 1 High spd. 1 low spd. Can't fault them. Also have a Torium 30. Don't use it much any more. Saltists feel better/stronger. Have Saltiga 40. if Saltist anything like that. Go for it. 30's cast ok. But I've been chucking overheads for over 50yrs. (Still get a birdie now and then) Regards Macka17
  21. Hi. Look at the two spd Accurates too. Smooth as. and got bottom gear for when a biggie starts going down. No drag limits either. just crank it on.. Regards macka17
  22. Damn site safer, Unless you weld pod on transom like I did. Macka17
  23. Hi. It's called oxidisation of the metel. Leave it on. it's a protective coating...Also called Character. Old and weathered. Like me at 66. Macka17
  24. Hi. Stepson down in melbourne Mixes his burley up in bulk. 25ltr drum. Chuck pellets. Tuna oil. Mashed fish frames. Stirs it all up to a mush. Gets lotsa 2 ltr milk bottles with top bit cut off. Fills them all with mush. Freezes down Then drops into berley box one at a time to suit. Just cuts out of milk carton and takes empties home. Pretty good idea I reckon. Freezer blocks, and Berley all in one. Regards Macka17
