  1. Great report mate. I've landed a few decent Trev's there in the warmer months. I too hooked something that I couldn't get close the surface even on medium gear, fairly certain it was a big port jackson judging by the fight, took a whole squid... I actually have a photo of a baby port jackson swimming along the surface from that day, I'll try and find it on my phone to share.. Guys asking where Browns Rock is, simply google map it! I actually find a lot of spots, including Browns by screening maps looking for 'fishy' areas. Tight lines.
  2. Top story Jet, really cool to be swapping fish with your stomping ground local goers Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks crossfire. Sounds like a sounder is a must. Roseville is probably a little far north considering I'll be heading from Drummoyne but noted if I head north of the spit Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  4. Hahaha it must be, I've not heard of kidney or rib slappers... Anything longer than my forearm is a win IMO. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks Smasher, haven't got myself a sounder yet but it would be hard to miss the big cylindrical building! Camp cove looks the goods.
  6. Nicely done Steve! Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  7. Hey Raiders, As some of you might know, I've recently acquired a new boat and pretty keen to find some elbow slappers. Speaking bait... they say fresh is best right? So, if I'm launching at Rhodes or Drummoyne(Most likely here due to the fact it's REALLY easy to solo launch), where's the best place to gather bait on the way towards the heads? On the way out to the Harbour on the weekend, I noted a number of boats hanging around under the Gladesville bridge near the marina, I'm guessing for Yakka? I'd be happy with yellowtail, squid or any other suggestions that are reasonably easy to locate/catch. After being a land based fisho for 15 odd years this is fairly new to me so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Mark
  8. Always great to get out for a midweek session. I'm surprised you didn't fillet the Salmon and try for something bigger.... Fresh caught salmon off the beach usually provides the goods!
  9. Hmm this is possible... Considering the fuel line split on the first run and had to be repaired.. I will add a primer bulb to the shopping trolley when I get new fuel line. Thanks Jeff! Thanks Antony, it's a 99' 40hp merc. Tell tail was strong from start and did not seem to reduce in flow. Hmm the limp mode things sounds interesting... Although it happened, then we stopped, fished for an hour or so, and then drove off again but it was still 'limping', it fixed itself after a 3-4 minutes of taking off. It certainly seems to be more than a leak in the fuel line, considering it only happened once on last nights trip rather than erratically..
  10. Great news guys, the new boat doesn't sink! After a few hours of messing around on Sunday morning, we finally got down to the boat ramp! Got her in the water pretty easily, and pulled over to the Rhodes boat ramp pontoon with a perfect length piece of rope. Parked the car and ran back to the boat. At this point I was pretty excited! Put the motor down and all of a sudden I could smell fuel.... oh dear... To my disbelief a fuel line at split near the inlet to the motor.... CRAP CRAP CRAP. Quick thinking saw me disconnect the line via the clip to the motor and cut the line, quickly reattaching it to the hard and slightly brittle hose. It was a delicate operation, but managed to do it without spilling much fuel into the water and not cuts to the fingers! Phew. Ok, key in, fuel primed, kill switch off, Neutral - Check, battery switched on to primary.... Turn ignition, cranking over strong and shuttering but no bite... Just didn't sound like it was going to start! WHAT?!.... It started cold just on Thursday night, what could be wrong? I was starting to become a little irritated and there was a group of guys having engine trouble waiting to load and we were in their way... I decided to lower the choke to half way and it fired but didn't start. I stop cranking and tried again with a little less choke and she started straight away! Got it, less choke. A little bit of smoke and she was purring! Great news. A pleasant motor up the river towards the harbour, everything seemed okay power, neutral power etc. Great! As we approached the Gladesville bridge the power dropped all of a sudden and I couldn't increase the rpm no matter the throttle possible. It was kind of convenient as the bridge is a no wash zone, but a little concerning....Almost straight after the bridge it came back up to power and was running fine... WEIRD. It did this one more time just after the harbour bridge...okay now I'm a little concerned.. She seemed okay all the way back to the ramp. Lovely afternoon on the water, and no 'major' issues, so I'm pretty stoked with my first boat purchase! I went back out yesterday after work and the power cut happened again... I launched with some friends at Drummoyne, but did everything solo, this ramp is amazing. So easy to unload your boat, jump up onto the pontoon and walk the boat down... Loading is the same in reverse. Fantastic! I'm hoping she just needs a service which I will get in the weeks to come, it feels like it might be a fuel problem, maybe the external filter is getting blocked? any ideas? A friend suggested a gear in the lower leg might be warn as it happened to his brothers boat, but as with anything boat/car related it probably needs a mechanic to look at it in person to be sure..... All in all pretty happy with the purchase... The first catch was a 25cm snapper, and a few other little ones whilst relaxing on the harbour, looking forward to getting the few little things sorted and chasing some real fish! Tight lines. Mark
  11. Nice work Krispy, glad you got into some keepers! Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  12. Challenge accepted. Let the Kingie games begin
  13.  Going to have to change my raider name to the Kingie Slayer
  14. Thanks Nathan, you're not wrong. I've already priced up a few things including a fish finder. I think I might hold out and put that on the Xmas list... There's a few little things including wheel bearings that I need to invest in before looking at the 'luxury' items aha
  15. Thanks for the advice guys. Hayden from Shire Mobile Marine made the trek out to Blacktown to look at the boat. He organized to do this the day I rang him and gave me a very helpful report of the boat and motor. Thanks again mate! Definitely an asset to the site sponsor list! Ended up with a 96 Stessl striker 4.4 powered by a 99 Mercury 40hp 2 stroke. She's a bit rough around the edges, but has a lot of potential and will definitely be enough to get me on the water to chase Kings, jews and everything in between. I think it will be a great first boat Can't wait to post up a report! Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  16. Thanks guys, I've spoken to Hayden just then. Top bloke and very helpful. Will definitely getting the inspection with him.
  17. Hi Raiders, After many years chasing fish land based and a little on the yak, I think I'm going to take the plunge and get myself a boat. I'm not looking to spend more than 4-5k, so probably just a stern driven tinnie. I'm hoping to get in the harbour, botany bay and up the rivers. I've actually found a Stessl 4.4 Striker that I'm pretty keen on, but I have no idea on rego checks or what I should be looking at (had a quick look at the RMS site but it's not very helpful. - I'm more or less ready to make an offer, but thought I'd reach out to the Raider community for some advice before jumping in blind. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Mark
  18. Awesome report, we had the same thing happen to us with our burly trail last summer. The kings weren't touching our squid, so we left them out a little deeper in hope for a hoodlum and put out other rods with big cubes of unweight Pillies which did the trick. Ditto the other comments, track down that Trev photo! Cheers
  19. Mate most ferry wharves around Sydney harbour will hold yakkas. Burley up with some dried white bread and drop you hook in the trail. If they are there, you should land a couple without too much trouble. Sometimes if it's tough fishing, try changing your bait from bread to tic-tac sized prawn pieces Good Luck!
  20. I actually caught an EP at Roseville last year, it was a bit over 40cm, pretty healthy fish... They are definitely in there. Great you managed to land a few!
  21. Nice report and great catch! Love it when a long trip pays off. Enjoy the feast!
  22. That I did Papafish, I collected it from the other side of Lapa the night before, mixed up some bread & weed but didn't seem to invoke any more action...
  23. Well done mate. A lot of people say they are a dud catch, but anything with a decent wait pulls drag off the line is a win IMO... That sweet sounds we all wake up for. I'm glad to see another person uses the same measure of a few more minutes, specifically in 30 minute increments LOL
  24. Ahahaha. First rag out of my 'ragbag',luckily they are washed before being sold... I wasn't sure what spikes or spines these badboys have and figured it was better to be safe than sorry.
  25. Hey Raiders, Just a quick report. After doing a little reading about blackfishing I thought I'd give it a crack. After a little advice frm a local up at Southwest Rocks over the long weekend and a little tutoring by Fishphase, thanks matey! I was pretty eager to land my first blackie. I collected some cabbage and hit La Perouse at the gentlemen hour of 8am on Friday. Managed a down pretty quick and had a little 22cm model on the stones.... a quick photo and back in the drink... After this I got a few more downs, but there wasn't much swell and despite my burleying efforts I couldn't entice another hit. Packed up pretty stoked I'd managed to land one on my first attempt, grabbed some breakkie and headed for Tamarama rockface, thought I'd throw some prawns or pillies into the break.. no suck luck. I was there for about 2 hours around high but with nothing to show but a few missed hits and 3 toad fish... damn. Ohwell, thought I'd make the most of the nice weather and packed up... stripped off to my speedo shorts and ran the walkway to Bondi and back. Marvelous weather and a great start to a new found obsession with hunting the rock hiding blackies..
