  1. I believe it was in Perth, the witnesses called the shark to be longer than their 5.5m they were in! Terrible news.
  2. Mate I could be wrong, but that school photo from your boat look like Kingies? The yellow tails don't look salmon like at all.. That jew is a solid slab for your first! Well done maaaaate.
  3. Ah that's what everyone crowded around. Ha my mate and I had a laugh at how many people were there... We saw 4 or so of these size models cruising around, but they weren't interested in our jigs either. Might have to invest in a spike!
  4. JA I have a hook 4 combo, only been out a handful of times since I installed it on the runabout but I had the same issue from time to time. It would also set off the shallow alarm even though I was in 10m+ of water. It would usually fix itself, but when it didn't I found switching the depth range or swapping screen views would resolve. As with the above comments, restarting the devise takes longer than re-rigging your line... Keen to know if the re-positioning of the transducer makes a difference! Good luck.
  5. 6lb Cubing legend! Nice work bro
  6. Nice work 6lb. Solid bag of bonnies P.S. Mad invite.
  7. Wow that Jack is a monster! I hear they're great on light gear, really strong fighter. Hope all is well settling into your new location and promotion.
  8. Awesome feed there mate, well done indeed. Great to see the bay still producing!
  9. Yeah man, I've seen a few Bream near the fish markets that would be pushing 50cm... No doubt there are still big boys out there.
  10. This is such great news Donna! Thank you. As others have said Tapatalk is horrid... I'd certainly throw my hand up if you need any help test & targeting site functionality.
  11. Could be a big shovel nose shark? Usually sharks will run for the horizon or take you for a job up the beach when you hook them. Good luck!
  12. Herbo sorry to hear this! May I suggest also looking at some of the Jewfish pages on FB. These groups have lots of members and could be a good way to reach a lot of people across the country. Good luck with your recovery!
  13. It really is terrible to hear of stories like this. I hope we as a community can raise boat safety awareness to family, friends and other raiders.
  14. Hi Raiders, Some of you may have seen the news today, a boat capsized last night around 7pm in Botany Bay, but only 2 of the 3 fisherman have been found. 1 man is still unaccounted for, my thoughts go out to his friends and family and I really hope he is found alive! I think this should bring home to all of us who go out to enjoy the treasures of our local seas, land based or in your boat, wearing jackets when required, being aware of the surf/ocean conditions and taking extra precautions at night are all VERY important to our safety. Conditions at sea can take a turn in seconds, especially when night fishing in big seas, it's much harder to see freak waves and changes in conditions. Please be careful Raiders, and remember that a big fish isn't worth loosing your life over. Article is below; http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/search-continues-for-missing-fisherman-tim-nguyen-in-sydneys-south-20160401-gnvv2e.html Safe & tight lines to you all. Mark
  15. Not sure about the lads, but the boat sure is pretty! haha Sounds like an awesome day out, love that you found the fish in close, it makes the trip home that much smoother!
  16. Thanks for the info guys! I found an old squid spike from my late Grandfathers kit. I think I'll be giving it a try this weekend, might try in MH.
  17. Time to invest in a telescopic net me thinks! I saw a guy at Clifton on Friday with one, he could reach all the way down to the water from the pier... Boni's are too nice to let go IMO haha
  18. Krispy delivering the goods again mate! Well done.
  19. Mate I can picture the fillets now! I bet the family was stoked with tea last night? Well done.
  20. It does look a little skewed to the left doesn't it? Well I thought I had mounted it parallel to the ground, must of bumped it last time I adjusted it to the water level... Next pic to come.
  21. How does that look to you? Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  22. Josa, I'm no expert but when ever I drift or attempt to drift for flatties, I've found a paternose rig works quite well. They are easy to tie using Dropper knots for your hook leaders and ensure one bait is on the ground and the other is up a little. You can also adjust the sinker weight quite easily if you use a clip sinker. I've heard there are flattie grounds in 40m fathoms, have a quick search on FR. There are quite a few reports ranging from 20-50m catching them on the drift.. Good luck!
  23. After a little advice from Krispy(thanks mate!) I left work in a hurry to wet a line yesterday afternoon. I was going to hit the change of low tide at ~7pm. I Grabbed some Bait n Go Pillies near Neutral Bay from the United servo and got to CG on 530, threw out a few cubes and burleyed pretty hard. There was a lovely little old Asian couple who were already setup, and appeared to be landing a few yellow-tail which I figured was a good sign. I used a few other Bait n Go prawns but kept missing the bites. - Just pickers... Whilst watching the sun go down, I decided to have a chat to my new friends about how they caught & cooked Yakka.. Meanwhile a couple of my mates played around with a camera and my 3rd rod... Old mate gave me a tiny Yakka and I threw him straight out using a 8/0 Gama circle hook with a 30lb trace.... This is when things heated up! No sooner than I could pick up my bait rod, I could hear my Sienna 4000 starting to wind a little... I thought oh I must of set the drag too light, but it was such a tiny lollipop yakka I thought this was a little strange... I picked up the rod to feel a bit of weight and some serious bend starting to show in the rod... This was it! Fish on! I wound up the drag a little, loaded up the rod and made my strike. The rod loaded up a lot more and the sienna started ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZing! Finally a decent fish. I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew it was big. I was loosing a fair bit of line, this fish took about half of my 12lb mono spool effortlessly and I was becoming concerned I was going to get spooled. I was confident in my Knot and the Black magic leader so I decided it was time to put on the hurt. I applied some thumb drag to the reel and walked across the pier in an attempt to turn the fish...It worked! Great success, oh wait the line is going soft, the fish started swimming back at me pretty quick! I picked up the RPM on the old forearm spin and regained a tight line. All of a sudden she surfaced, we could see the water breaking a little and what appeared to be a yellow tail, by now it was getting a little dark so our vision was a little off. I called it for maybe a king, as they love yellow tail and it had some seriously strong runs early in the fight....why not? No sooner did it show us a little surface action, did it take a massive run again.. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I could tell it was tiring a little, by this stage about 5-6 minutes had passed and the runs were becoming a little lazier. I could feel slow headshakes/tugs while she was swimming, which made me think maybe it was a shark rather than a king... It surface again and we caught a glimpse, starting to think maybe it was a Port Jackson... By this stage I had managed to walk her around from the front of the pier, negotiating the pilons. but there was about a 40cm drop to the water from the bottom of the steps... No chance of lifting it up that. Crud! I'm going to have to beach it... I decided I would have to run down the pier and onto the beach and convince her to me... Just as I loosened off the drag and started to move quickly down the pier, she must of realised sensed the lightened pressure on the line, and it was on again, a mad dash for freedom. I had to run back to my vantage point away from the pilons, getting stuck on one of them. I thought that was it. It's over, there's no way my 12lb will survive this..... but it was a miracle! I had opened the bail arm to prevent it wearing the mainline. I attempted to maneuver the fish towards the North side of the pier so I could run to the beach but it just kept running ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZ. By this stage I was becoming a little tired, my Abu Garcia Veritas was really helping and working hard to absorb the runs but this fish had some serious steam to it. Just as I thought I was finally getting the upper hand she decided it was time to show me who was in control. A massive burst of energy and ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz PING. It was over. The adrenaline still pumping in my forearms they'd been working hard for 10 minutes. I couldn't believe the worst had happened. But I was smiling ear to ear. I had set out to hear my drag scream, and my word did I hear that Sienna sing. I was a little sad to of not got a closer look to confirm what it was and get a snap, but I was content. Looking at the leader, it snapped about 15cm from where the hook was, but the leader looked like it had copped a bit of a beating. It had scuff marks and rub marks, so I'm thinking it was a PJ... but I'm really not sure. After this I managed to hook a few taylor and what looked to be a little jew but it spat the hook at the surface. I sent out a taylor fillet for about 40 minutes but no dice. All in all a pretty great Monday arvo. My friend with the camera managed to capture the fight, and will post up a link for you guys to have a look at. Hopefully you will know what it was by the fight? Thanks for reading guys. Tight lines.
  24. Thanks mate. I'll do up a quick report and is it turned out to be a pretty cool session!
  25. Nothing like finishing the day with a few flattie for the table! I was trying a drift through sugarloaf bay on Friday but didn't have any luck. If you don't mind sharing, Where did you manage to find the Flathead?
