  1. Sounds like an awesome day on the water. It's a shame you didn't get to see the Mako do some acrobatics... I hear they make salmon look tame..
  2. Awesome weekend mate. I actually saw you guys at Drummoyne Boat ramp, was going to say Hi but the ramp was a little hectic and I didn't want to hold people up. I heard a few people cracked the meter kings over the weekend, sounds like North Head is firing up!
  3. That trout is a monster! Sounds like a really cool trip! Hiccup free? Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  4. Congrats mate, thats an awesome report! Delicious. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  5. I just got a call back from a really helpful lad at one of the C-Tek suppliers, he is confident the Electronic isolator will do it's job, charge the starter battery, and then trickle across to the AUX. I might look at the 7 or 10amp considering my combined AH on the two batteries are a little higher than the 5amp recommended. Happy days.
  6. Hey Raiders, After solving the planing issue(Spark plugs), next on my list of To-Do's is a charging setup and refresh of wiring including adding a headunit for a little bit of Smooth FM. The current setup is dual battery with an electronic isolator + a manual inline switch. I've rang around a number of Marine + battery stores, but no one seems to be able to advise me of the 'correct' charging setup for a dual bank battery setup.. Without suggesting I buy two chargers, one for each battery(That can't be right!).... A little concerning but anyway, no doubt there is more knowledge on here than in most stores. - I'd love to support our site sponsor, RoadRunner Parts but I can't get out there during the week and they aren't open weekends. I'm looking for a charger that will work on this setup(if possible), preferably one that I can hard wire into the circuit and plug in for trickle maintenance. Ctek seems to be a brand that gets mentioned a lot in other posts and being reputable. I just located a Ctek 5amp at a store starting with R, for $99... @ 40% off that's a great price, but really unsure if it's suitable. The second part is updating the wiring as the previous owner though that using car amp wire was suitable for marine application... anyway we won't go there. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Mark.
  7. So after finally being able to replace the spark plugs, the issue is completely gone! Running like a dream. I actually went to 5 different automotive stores, and in the end had to order the plugs in as all the stores either had 1 or none... Thanks again for everyone's input. I'm going to get the gearbox seal, carbies cleaned and impeller done as I've done everything else.. Kings here I come! Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  8. Hopefully its a big season! Congrats on the day of firsts. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  9. The issue only appears to be identifiable when it's on the water, under load... in hindsite probably should of water tested it before commiting to buy... Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  10. Quick update, I've replaced the fuel lines back to the water separator filter, both fuel filters and primer bulb. She is still having issues planing, I wasn't able to find anywhere that had 3 plugs yesterday so can't rule out plugs, but I cleaned them with carbie cleaner, so thinking it might not be them and something else. The fuel in the tank is all new now, so I'm leaning towards an electrical issue. I noticed the oil reservoir sensor isn't actually plugged in, but the harness doesn't have two female plugs for me to reconnect, there is 1 male and 1 female plug in the harness that are empty..... Yesterday when I took it out after doing the internal fuel filter, it planed straight away taking off from the boat ramp and revved up into the rev range very smooth and strongly. I left it at WOT/90% throttle for a minute or so, and then backed off to see if it would take off properly again. Stopped completely, into neutral and then took off, but It wouldn't plane, again getting to like 30/40% revs and not going any higher... So strange! I had a play with the ignition switch, as I read up on similar issues of the same model (1999 Mercury 40hp 3 cylinder), and a few people mentioned their choke was playing up. I 'choked' it whilst it was derping and it actually killed the engine. Any other thoughts before I give the mechanic a blank cheque? After buying the boat and a number of items including safety gear the wallet is a little light and would be great to try and resolve it myself, but looking unlikely...
  11. I actually saw these yesterday, but wasn't sure if it was a good one or not.... Regret not buying it now ha. Might have to run back this arvo! I tested both SCA batteries and they were holding 12.x Volts, so they're not stuffed per say, but am going to switch over to the AGM battery as my starter. Thanks guys!
  12. On 3kg, that would of been the ultimate fight. Congrats on landing it mate! Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  13. Is that Ricky?.... A face only a mother could love Shame about the lack of jews! Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk

  15. Hey Raiders, I found time yesterday afternoon to pull out the batteries and inspect them in the Striker. Turns out I've got 2x SuperCharge car batteries, they're both sitting in battery boxes, but I'm a little dubious about one, I suspect it is on the way out as the Battery isolator switch flashes tell me the aux battery is faulty.. Is the standard "fully charged" Voltage 12.84 for all batteries or does it vary? The two batters are: N70ZZL - CCA660 RCMin 160 SMF - N70ZZX CCA600 RCMin135 The circuit they are running on has an electronic Dual battery isolator with a separate manual switch.. I can't work out why it has an electronic isolator + the manual switch... A friend has just offered me an odyssey PC1700MJT which has a max pulse of 1700, CCA 875, MCA 1175. I'm not overly confident in interpreting what the ratings mean to confirm it would be suitable.. I've looked up the AGM battery, they are $675 new! Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Mark,
  16. What are your thoughts Yowie? Still thinking it's a Saury?
  17. Yeah I went there once, and caught nothing but kelpfish, an old boot and some ugly rockcale thing... waste of time!
  18. Haha my target species is anything that will make my drag scream Anything longer than my forearm is a win IMO. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  19. Thanks for the replies guys. Much appreciated. Pete, I replaced the external filter(Man that was hard to get off!), but unfortunately it did the same thing again. After motoring out to the harbour Bridge A-Okay, I backed off and it started playing silly buggers... I've now replaced the fuel line and primer bulb but suspect that won't fix it. Hoping to head out on Friday to see if the new fuel line made a difference. Service is in the process of being booked in now. You're not wrong, a problematic outboard is beyond annoying!
  20. Hey mate, my first land based legal king was caught at Neilson Park, on fresh squid from a tackle shop. 3 gang hook rig. Check it out on maps and sus out a few spots! Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  21. It was called for a large scale Saury last time, I've updated the Aquarium post to get our ID experts onto it Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  22. Caught another one guys... this time with better photos arw we still calling it for a large scale Saury?? Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  23. Hey Raiders, Quick report from Saturday... we hit the water at Drummoyne about 7am after a quick pit stop at the big M... interesting doing a 3 point turn in the carpark with the boat. We scooted over to double bay and grab a mooring, we found about 30 reddies to 28cm, we noticed one of the fish had a lip piercing hole and decided after potentially catching the same fish twice we should move... We motored over to the reef and clifton gardens but not takers.. A quick coffee stop at clifton and then we anchored 30m off the wharf.. A few little reddies again but pretty quiet, then bang! I'm on... a fair bit of line peeled off as I had the drag a little light due to the plague of reddies... After tightening up, and giving a little more hurt the fish still had a fair bit of fight and some weight to it... Called it for a flatty due to its colour near the surface then, this thing appeared... Now I caught one of these last year and put up a post in the aquarium section that got a few people talking... this time I got a fair few pics and can hopefully ID and maybe get myself a record for the ugliest fish caught Was a great day out, with some tunes. We did actually watch a storm cloud move over the heads and Neilson Park... it swallowed a whole fleet of sailing boats, so we packed up in 30 seconds flat and flew back over to rose bay only getting a light shower... narrowly avoided a terrential downpour!! Cheers, M Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
  24. Funny I was about to post up the same topic! You're right Dav, there's a big price difference there.. I actually just missed out on a near new 550DV, had arranged a price via gumtree but the guy had it on eBay aswell, didn't tell me and I missed out! Wasn't very impressed... I'm looking around the $300 mark... I've found a local shop that has the older Garmin 350c in stock @$199 which is $100 off, but I believe the new DV tech is much better... Can anyone share their thoughts on that? (Sorry for the slight highjack) Cheers, M
