  1. Went out Saturday Afternoon with a couple of mates to Botany Bay. It was such a great day. We started out just drifting with bait but we only managed to catch small bream and what looked like red bream (guessing small snapper??). We then changed position and were amongst some flathead, taking the drifted bait well. My mates thought i was mad for switching to soft plastics with the old prawns working well with both of them catching nice size flatheads. On my first cast with the plastic i pullied in a 44cm flattie. As we were drifting i hooked onto a another feeling much much bigger, but was shattered when he (or should i say she!) spat the hook half way into the fight. A couple of drifts later i hooked another smaller one. I have attched some pics of the day with the best sized flathead. Not being satisfied a went to H&C bay after work for half an hour and hooked my biggest bream so far. You certanly feel the difference. It was actually fighting me on the light gear. I was so excitied. Probably nothing compared to some of the bream on the forum caught by the more experience guys but to me it was like a marlin Thanks for all the guys who have helped me so far. I am sure more stupid questions are to come. I am out of attachment space so i will attach the bream pic to a new post Thanks
  2. Nice one Jewhunter I was at Hen and Chicken Bay as well after work but i could only get 20 or so minutes in before dark. Caught my biggest bream to date. Don't know the size but i will post some pics of it later as well as some flatties picked up in Botany Bay on Saturday.
  3. Ronald I saw you on Sunday Arvo at Hen and Chicken bay. I was the loser in the boat not catching anything.
  4. I can't get the attachments to load. It states that the attachments are too large at the i have 7mb space. There is no way the pics are that big. Any help?
  5. Hi raiders I went straight to HC after work tonight and fished the spot that Jewhunter has made famous. I did manage to catch my first ever bream on soft plastics after about 4 casts. Nothing massive but a big thing for me. I then had the second for the day. It was a little flathead. Both fish were nothing to write home about but good fun for a biginner like me. I have attached the pics of my first bream plus the flathead.
  6. Nice report jewie, I still can't get the results you do. Congrats! Good to meet you too Little Flattie. Its amazing how two raiders can just run in to each other! Have fun with that birds nest
  7. Your never going to give it away are you? (typical fisherman!) Just a question since i am new. You were saying before about going down at low tide and have a look around before fishing at high tide. What exactly are you looking for especially for bream? Just drop offs? or Just structure which things like oysters and things grow ? I know you don't want to give your secrets away but any advice is always handy. Cheers. Might see you around one day i don't live very far away as well
  8. I tried for about 3-4 hours at Iron Cove from 11.30-2.30 and caught absolutley nothing. Whats the secret lol. Good to see someone is at least catching fish. Are you fishing in Exile Bay near the golf course? Well done
  9. Hey where abouts in IC do you go? Do you have a boat? I fish around Rodd Point sometimes and was thinking about heading out tomorrow. Might see you around
  10. Thanks for the tips Maybe one day i might see you out there
  11. Hi If you don't mind me asking where abouts at HC bay do you go fishing? I am only starting out and need some help on land based soft plastics. Any help would be great
  12. Thanks for the imput guys. This is such a good website. I have learned so much already from reading the posts. Hope to purchase a rod and reel friday or sat and go for a fish. Just another question on a different topic. What is the deal with the social days? Do you just sign up and hope to get a spot? Is there a fee to go? I am keen to get right into the fishing now i have moved to Sydney and have acess to some river systems.
  13. Hi guys, Just wondering if light soft plastic gear can be used for bait fishing as well? I am pretty inexperienced and i am looking for a new rod and reel. Thanks
  14. Thanks flattieman. Might go and buy the SFS rod then. I think they are 20% off at the moment
  15. The rod will be mainly used for soft plastics but i would also like to used it for bait and hard bodies as well. It will be used in a boat most of the time. I went to freddy's looking for a rod and they did push the maple gear. I have never heard of them before this. The maple rod i was looking at was originally 300 odd dollars and reduced to $170. But i also saw a shimano Steve Starling SFS for like 90 bucks. I just would feel bad to pay alot of money ( for me anyway) for a rod brand i ahve never heard of. Is there any other rod sugestions for soft plastics for around $150? Thanks
  16. Just wondering if anyone has used a Maple ecotech graphite spinning rod from freddy's before. Are they any good? They are fairly expensive but i feel there are better rods for the money. Any suggestions Thanks
