  1. Didn't end up going out, decided to head out to wisemans ferry and try bream and EP's.
  2. Yeah it Took us about an hour to get to our spot, so the mates were relaxing it up. Beautiful place, hard to beleive we were in Sydney still sometimes.
  3. Hey guys Decided to head out to the mighty Hawkesbury this morning early in the hope for some bream and estuary perch. It was a freezing morning but we decided to rug up and brave the cold. We lauched the boat around 7 and we were greated by thick fog. We headed to our first spot and my mate brendo hooks the first for the day. A nice little bream. Later during the day i get a solid hit and reel in my first Estuary Perch (I think, could be a Bass) As the day cleared up he decided to try the shallow mangroves on the run out tide. He hooked a few smaller flathead and tailor. I then felt some real weight on my rod and the drag on the Sol was in action. I get it 1 meter from the boat and the hook pulls and i am watching the biggest flathead i have seen swim back to the muddy bottom. Bummer After a few more smaller flathead i feel the rod load up again and this time succesfully catch a larger flathead. Measured 65cm which is a PB for me, exciting stuff i know. After catching a few and our stomach's looking for something a digest we head our long drive back to the ramp sharing and few personal jokes (mainly about the cafe and the secondary drop offs), talking about how chris never got a fish all day, and taking in the beautiful weather and landscape. All in all a great day.
  4. Hi guys Was thinking about going out to the nepean for a bass session Sunday. Is it too cold for bass this time of year? Thanks for the help Randall
  5. Hey mate I grew up in Coonabarabran which is located directly between Dubbo and Tamworth. I know guys chasing cod usually use baitcasters. I use a Saltist HRF low profile baitcaster similar to what you would use chasing barra. A rod rated to 8kg and some 20 pound braid. The better dawia spinning reels have enough drag pressure in the 2500 size for cod and a bonus is they are also light enough for bream and bass. I have a SOL put i have heard good things about the Tierra and Exceler as well. I used an 2500 size exceler on the gold coast which handled alot of different fish the best being a small cobia. SO i would use a 2500 size reel with a rod rated to 6-8kilos if spinning is your prefered. I have seen Exceler's as low as $140 which leaves you plenty of change from 300 for a decent rod. Hope i have helped you
  6. What are they worth Tony?
  7. I will be the first to get a new loomis Daiwa Combo! Got half for the moment anyhow. Randall
  8. After some lady friends of mine working out i own a boat they have been nagging (typical!) me to take them out for a fish. So i had them organise the date i promised them to take them providing i had work off. So i had them up early last Sat around 6am to launch the boat. I took them to Hen and Chicken bay in hope for some flathead as they were all first timers. I showed them how to rig the rods with soft plastics and work them in the water. I only had 3 rods so i let them fish with me guiding the boat with the eletric. (I could never be a guide as i would want to fish) After about 20mins Andrea screams that she has a fish. I look around and fair enough there is a bend in the rod. Surprisingly the fish takes a little drag and she pulls in a nice flatty. Couple of snaps and back it goes. I decide to try another area and Clare hooks a nice size whiting. We move to the other side of the bay and i quickly grab a rod a through a few casts. Hook one small flatty take a pic and through it back. The tide lows down as does the bites so i take them to see the Harbour Bridge. All in all a great day on the water (bit different to normal) but i think it is a good thing to incourage women to fish. They are already nagging for another session. Randall
  9. Looks like the colour was 340 red with white strips. Nice session there Swordy. Trevs go hard Randall
  10. We were using pearl water melon bass minnow and evil minnow flick bait. On really light squidgy finesse heads. Nice result, Randall! I can't imagine seeing a large school of good bream zooming around - amazing... Shame you couldn't catch a few more! Well done. Flattieman. I wish i could have stayed longer but only left due to time!
  11. No i didn't mate. I was too excited about catching another one! Guessing it was 35 or so and it fought really well, had the SOL working. I have never seen so many fish in the river before. I wish i could have filmed it to show you guys. It was pure addrenilen on the boat, we were chasing them with the minn kota Randall
  12. Headed out early sat morning for fish before the races at Warick Farm. We left the ramp just on first light and had the water to oursleves. Started out near Iron Cove where we didn't get much so decided to head into Hen and chicken bay. While there we would have caught 20 or so rubbish size flathead which wasn't all that exciting. We then decided to make our way back to the ramp as I had to pick my dad up at 10.30 to take him out to the races. I thought i would have one last flick along the rockwall near the ramp and work and was amazed to see large schools of bream crusing in the water. Already late i decided to through a couple anyway and after a couple of casts i was on. Nice fight and had boated a nice bream. Again a threw another and on again. I wanted to stay badly but recieved a phone call from my dad who was waiting for me. So we tossed it and headed back.
  13. I don't know what the numbers actually mean but your correct they are a size thing. I know that all companies are different ie shimano 2500 size reel is normally smaller in size to daiwa 2500. I think the size has something to do with the reel capaicty. I was told told the mechanics of a 2000 and 2500 size shimano are the same size but the 2500 spool has more line capacity ie deeper spool. I wouldn't be surprised if i am totally wrong Randall
  14. Bad luck Stewy I went out for the first time Sat and it was the same. Only one bream in four hours. Still jelous that you can go fishing on the weekdays Randall
  15. Mine is my Daiwa Procaster Z with Team Daiwa Sol awesome for bream, flathead
  16. Hey mate you can but it is expensive and not 100% accurate (i believe). Since dioxin is measured in picograms (10E-15 of a kilogram) or 0.0000000000000001 kg the testing procedure is long and delicate. Costs are a least $2000 a pop. A lot of blood is needed as the lipids (fat) need to be extracted from the blood for the test. Alot of other factors can increase your dioxin levels. Smoking is the worst along with other factors like eating a lot of say burnt meat.
  17. There are probably better reels for the more finesse weights like the pixy or sol baitcaster. They are a good alround reel though. I know a bloke who catches kings in pittwater with them.
  18. I think it is around 4kg mark. I think the Saltist HRF is the basically the same as the 153HST and the HRF is 4kg.
  19. Hey Guys I have a a boat which has lights, sounder and an electric start all connected to a single battery, with the wires directly connected to the bettery terminals. Is this safe? I am also having problems with the sounder working properly while the outboard is running. Is this caused by the wiring? The sounder works fine with the motor off. I feel like i should be running the wiring through a switch board or something. Any suggestions would be great Randall
  20. Thanks for the tips guys I will try them next time. Hopefully i can crack one on the hard body Randall
  21. Sounds like an awesome session! Got to love the days when nothing can go worng Congrats
  22. Where do you book the Swordfisherman cherry popper Experience? Great day by the sounds of things, congrats on the nice size bass. Will have to go for a fish with you guys one day. Randall
  23. Woke up this morning and I was very excited as it was a beautiful sunny day with not a hint of wind. Rang a few of my mates to see if there keen for a fish but they were all working (bad luck hey!). After ringing my mates i decided to fly solo taking the boat to Hen and Chicken Bay just on high tide. Its the first time i have been back to HC bay with the boat and it didn't disappoint. Tying on a berkley gulp minnow i proceeded to through casts towards the wall. After a couple i snag a decent size bream putting up a good account for itself. Took a pic, threw it back, had another cast and i was on again this time a nice flattie that surprisingly also put up a fight. Probably going 45-50cm. A few casts later and another bream, what a day. After watching my softplastic tails get smashed by the little toads (bastards!) i tie on a SX-40 copy and casts away. Not getting a bite i head back to the ramp casting a bridge pylons on the way. I pick up a few smaller bream then decide to call it a day as the temp was rising and the wind picking up. Just a question for the hard body lure brigade out there. Whats the best method for using hard bodies for bream? I have heard to sort of fish them like soft plastics, by lifting the rod, wait for the lure to suspend and repeat. I was getting hits with the soft plastics but not a touch with the hard bodies. All in all a great morning Good luck to all in the King social tomorrow p.s Rohit the repaired tip performed great! Randall
