  2. I caught him on a 3 inch pumpkinseed gulp grup. It is just visible in the pic around the mullets belly
  3. Hi guys Went out wednesday after work due to the huge amounts of fish being caught on fishraider. Caught 5 smallish flathead and a fish i havn't caught before. I was reading a comment by Crystalliser about flying mullets i and think i caught one! It put up a great fight with 5 good runs, i thought it was going to be a size bream and was a little dissapointed. Attached is a pic to confirm if the fish in question is a mullet. Randall Oops wrong mullet!
  4. Where that was me (the fat one!) Good idea about the hats. That was our last spot after working our way around the bay. Great spot for land based fishing. Rarely dissapoints. Randall
  5. Was that you over the other side of the canal near the golf course? Congrats on the fish 61 is a nice size I was working just over the other side and took a few flatties as well. There were a few tailor about and i lost a lot of tails. Saw Ronald and his mate there too.
  6. Hi All My name is Randall and I am 23 and have just moved to Sydney for work. I grew up in the country out west in a town called Coonabarabran. I went to uni at Newcastle and studied Civil Engineering. I now work for a major contractor currently based in Rhodes. Live in Strathfield and always keen for a fish. I have only recently started fishing seriously using mainly soft plastics for bream and flathead. If anyone is looking for some company when fishing send us an email or PM. I fish around the Hen and chicken bay land based often. Cheers Randall (newatthegame)
  7. Hi guys Just wondering what kind of gear people use to catch Jew. I am looking at getting a baitcast rod for barra and topend stuff and wondering if it could be used for Jew down south. The rods are 5'8 to 6 feet range and are rated 8-12 pound. Do i need something longer fo casting? Do i need something heavier? I would like to try SP and lures as well as bait. It would be good to have one rod to do both as i don't go chasing barra very often. Any help would be good.
  8. You did very well. When i go fishing at home just north of Dubbo we normally catch one or two cod, dozen or so yellow belly and about 1000 dirty carp. Congrats on the effort
  9. The only place i have ever caught tarpon was Cairnes on lures. I have never heard of any around Sydney but that doesn't mean much coming from me!
  10. How much do they usually sell for? Thanks
  11. Another stupid question...... What are the advantages of having the split grip? It looks kind of wierd but i have seen a lot of rods like that especially in the heavier end of spin and baitcast rods. Thanks
  12. Hi Raiders Just wondering if anyone here has any experience fishing around Albury for cod and yellow belly for lures? If so where is the best to go land based and what lures are the best. At home we usually use bait with success but i would love to land a cod on a lure. From my little experience spinners and hardbodies seem to work but has any body tried soft plastics. I have a few SP now and don't really want to spend dollars on a lure collection i only will use once in a blue moon. Any help would be great Thanks
  13. What are those grips made from? Nice looking rods Cheers
  14. Ads It is near Five Dock and Concord in the inner west. It is a bay the runs off the Parramatta River. I am new to Sydney myself so i hope this helps you. Look on whereis.com and search for lyons Road West in Five Dock Randall
  15. No where near that yet! Always learning, need some help with the bream chasing
  16. Headed to BB on Sat for a fishing session with my mate Brendo. We went straight to the location we have had success with before. After only a couple of casts I had missed 3 large bites. The next fish wasn't so lucky and we pull in a flathead going about 55cm. After Brendo getting zip on the bait and me catching about 3 decent flathead on the SP he decides to change and give the SP's a go. Not too long later he has hooked up and pulled in his first ever flathead on the plastics. I caught 7 for the session all between 40-50cms. Attached are some pics of the biggest ones I caught and one of Brendo with his first SP fish. (I think i have converted him to the soft plastic craze!)
  17. John When I was buying my new reel the guy at the tackle shop told me that a larger reel should cast further than a smaller reel. I was going to go the 1000 size but ended up going with the 2500 size. Hope that helps Randall
  18. Hi guys Went to Forster after work last Sat with a mate to have a look at a block of land. We packed the rods just in case we had some spare time to have a flick around. Driving from Sydney is poored all the way till we got to Forster and then it poored even more. Since there was some great footy to be watched we went to the pub and had a meal and a few beers (or should i say a few hundred!). We decided to head to the RSL where the action was and had a massive night not getting home to around 5am Waking up Sunday i had felt like i had been run over be a car or even something bigger like a truck. We went to Coomba Bay to have a look at the block and decided to have a quick fish while it had stopped raining. Fishing off the local jetty we were not expecting much but we pulled in about half a dozen smallish flathead with the biggest going 47cm. Its amazing how a few fish can stop someone from being hungover. Anyway it was a nice little session in a great place. Attached are a few pics from the day. Randall
  19. Yeah mate its about time. I have had many days casting for zip, even when other guys were catching fish.
  20. Thanks Grant Went back after work again tonight and caught another size bream. How did you go tonight? Might see you out there one day soon.
  21. Hi Shane Being a Newie boy (Cardiff) where are the best place to go land based throwing soft plstics around? I lived in Newie while at uni for 4 years so i know the area pretty well. I have been in the harbour and around Swansea with bait and manged to ctach small fish only.
  22. Yeah but there is still alot to learn! It is a big change from the muddy rivers out in the central west to the small esturies and bays in the city. Thanks for the encouragement.
  23. Here is a pic of the bream caught in HC Bay tonight as promised in my last post. Cheers
