  2. hi guys, been flat out and better late than never to post i suppose.. with the last chances of early morning fishing before work with daylight savings started last week i decided to hit the blackies for an hr or so. had 3 sessions mid week and a 2 - 3 hr one on the w/e. there was good groups of fish moving around and i tried a couple of different spots in pittwater for similar results. hot action with small breaks anow an then. i prob caught about 100 blackies or so over the 4 sessions with alot of missed ones each trip. went through 2 packs of hooks from the bustoffs and biggest ones went aprox 47-48cm.still to get that 50... had a double and lost one as leader hit net edge and the one i got was 45cm so i nearly pulled off a miracle solo,oh well was a big adrenaline rush over the 4 or 5 min fight. things i noticed was 2 of mornings i had to hit them early as i saw them not moving alot but ripping at baits turning heads quickly so good to vary when you hit em with missed downs as even though they were only hooked in lips sometimes at least i got them as they were not swallowing even small baits just grazing shyly. better tide this sunday so hope there is still some around as they are thinning out a bit now. its a hard thing when you keep getting 40cm + fish and all i want is a couple more around the 35cm for the table nice problem to have i suppose.... Heres a couple of mixed pics. cheers...steve..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Well i had a quick go at the blackies this morning before work and seems that i was right on that clear low water from last w/e. took me 10 min to find them then over next hr or so non stop action. Fish were much bigger with average 38-40 cm with a couple in low 30's. and couple float stealin buggers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Luderickman, royce is one of the guys i would class as a gun blacky fisho and you woulda learned alot and if he cannot find them then no one will. Troy, was nice meeting you too, bugger about not finding many fish. Better luck next time.. Cheers...steve..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Thats a great capture.. Pound for pound + the dirty nature of there fight they are about hardest there is. If they grew as big as marlin they would pull them backwards.. They are awesome on plate if looked after .. Well done .. Cheers...steve.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Nice trout. Getting ya first in another country is pretty good. Gotta be stoked about that.. Cheers..steve Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Been long time mate.. How ya been.. If ya keen you can always come along next time to net my fish for me and learn .. Lol... Its getting close to end of spawn run but they are all yr thing just tactics/locations etc change.. Cheers...steve... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Stormy,kingfisher... Its amazing how different the different waterways of hacking/botany/harbour and pitty/hawks are with the spawning run.. Pitty is usually running later than say harbour for example. I think the really low tide with very clear water caused them to be out in deeper waters and unfortunately i couldnt stay long enough to find out.. If i dont get out chasing kings next w/e i will see if they ste still around in big numbers with better tides. As for cooking i nearly always boneless fillet and either crumb or like i did tonight crispy skin fried with salad .. Yummo..
  9. hi guys, well been off line alot due to work and took family bush for 2 weeks so was desperate for a fish. last minute dash friday night for gear and weed left me shattered as couldnt find my Blacky bag of terminal gear and only weed was old stuff that was very soft.. head out sunrise for a couple hrs with only one of kids spin rod loaded with 2 hooks but suppose have to make do. flick float in and doesnt hardly settle before its going down, woooohoooo. lift rod come up tight and its game on. rod fully loaded and im in trouble then i start to win.once i land fish i see second hooks missing and see why i was getting punished..a double first drop.. only problem is i now only have one hook have to re do rig using the 10lb mainline as leader .. this set the scene for a red hot bite over the next 2 hrs and landed about 20 fish kept about 10 for a feed and missed lots due to shitty weed too soft. fish were mostly 33 to 38cm with a couple in the low 40's and left them biting which was very hard to do. went back today armed with the best weed ive seen this yr fully rigged proper etc and i really had to work hard for a down. bad tide with clear water but once sun was up i could see fish were only in little groups and moving around alot. sight fished them alot today and converted half a dozen to 40cm and only missed 3 downs so gotta be happy with that i suppose. i got absolutely owned by a very big one way over mid 40's as a little group moved in but once i quickly grabbed the backup rod they had moved on so missed another shot at them. 2 very different days but i really enjoyed the challenge today nearly as much as last week even though not many caught today.. are other guys finding them slowing down now or was it just one of them days. ??? cheers....steve.....
  10. Made a call to my best mate earlier in the week and arrangements were made to get his tribe of kids an mine into some Blackfish on the w/e. weed sourced and weather looking great we headed out sat arvo for a quick 2 hr session before dark with a couple extra kids to make it 8 fish at least to find…. Got to our spot and started baiting rods for the kids and by the 3rd rod I hear im on daddy, woooooohoooooooo . we help him out and this fish gives jesse a bit of drama but eventually he is safely in net and hi 5's all round… Well we eventually get 4 rods out and floats were going down quicker than a 2 bob hooker at the cross.. kids were having a ball and I casted out for one of the kids and float didn't settle as stopper hit float it just disappeared so I lift rod then go to pass to a kid and all hell breaks loose. After a lot of dramas I land a nice 42cm blacky but retire the rod as scuffed line and was hard keeping up with sooo many rods with fish going nuts.. This was truly a magical day I will treasure for many yrs and all the kids got 3 or 4 fish with a few around the 25 to 30 cm mark that were manageable even by my 3yr old master blacky fisho Blake and biggest went 42cm .. We kept a bag of fish and let a lot go and the smiles and joy were priceless.. I returned with my mate for a proper go in the morning and we nailed it big time. We ended up taking a good bag of about 20 odd fish with more than that either let go or self releasing from lifting without the net.most fish were perfect eating size of mid 30's with a couple stonkers to 43cm. I just toyed with em and watched my float go down, down, zig, zag, sideways while saying theres 2 baits gimme a double…. Well after 2 rods retired from bustoffs, scuffed line and broken leader etc I was glad I had all the extra rods… I couldn't better my 8yr olds double from previous arvo .. The blackies I have got in previous weeks have had slight spawning signs but strangely enough the 30 odd fish I cleaned (for 5 families)all showed no signs of spawning. Heres a couple of pics and a vid of my 3 yr old nailin a blacky and his 8yr old brother netting it… How stoked do ya think I am every time I watch it…. Hope ya enjoy it as I am smiling with joy reliving it as I type… jesse my 8 yr old with a double Blake my 3 yr old helping buster fish and his 6yr old brother harry a few ring ins with big smiles me with a good bag,let more than this go.
  11. well i had a plan to take number 1 son to smash a few blackies early sunday but was looking in jeapardy as weed was near imposable to source . the one spot i know has plenty i was not able to get to in daylight hrs so week old stuff was gonna have to do. to my surprise #1 son was eager and woke himself up before daybreak so we made our way to one of my easy spots to fish that was holding good fish recently. got there just on dawn and no burly, week old weed and freezing wind. took a while for the fish to feed but a couple other guys started getting some fish on much darker fresh weed.. eventually my boys float goes under and he lifts rod and fish goes nuts... it scoots right and into structure then with a little help we swim him out to be taken 15 meters to the left and into big trouble. no choice so i instruct him to lower rod a little give fish his head and he thankfully turns into open waters again wooohoo we got a 3rd chance... after a little bit more darting around we net a very fit fiesty luderick around 35cm that fought well above his weight. . hi 5's and we try for some more.. shortly after my float goes down and as i set hook my rod completely doubles over and im in alot of trouble here.. i lock up as he burries my and it soon ends with my 6lb leader giving way shortly after my boys too cold so we say farewell to the 2 other guys who had a good bag and they gave us 2 fish so we have a feed. thx again guys if yr reading this.. back home by 8.30am a couple happy snaps then breakky to top off a nice cold but successful session.. even though i didnt land one i was a very happy chappy. the 3 fish i cleaned were choccas with food and all fish i saw hooked went nuts and were very fiesty. cheers....steve......
  12. Thx guys, you to roberta . Lol. Was looking at some more footage last night and a little shot of adrenaline was pumping . Was an amazing experiance thats for sure. It has quietened down bermi a little but good news is very big fish still on chew off here but you have to find the schools.. Good luck to those heading out this w/e.
  13. Yes there is bf off sydney but alot of water between fish but if you get lucky they are very good fish.. I would swap all the ones we got down bermi to tangle with a big barrel off sydney again .
  14. troll till ya get a hit or see em on sounder.. they hit anything once found.. they are not shy like yf. no birds etc. obviously a little help from locals as to how far out to start but they are willing to spread the love down there... more fishoes = more $$$ to town hope it helps... cheers...steve...
  15. there were no birds etc you just troll looking for schools.yr sounder is best weapon also as at times they were staying down 40-70meters and we would jig them if no lure went off.. we went about 25-28 mile out at most sat and sunday they were in closer.. hope this helps.. cheers...steve....
  16. down sth you have good chance of getting one but off sydney there has been a couple of bf bites and all were cracker fish with multiple hookups.. alot of water in between them but thats how sydney is... from the little i know of em now till the full moon is best shot if cond are right.. good luck to those heading out.. cheers...steve....
  17. After pulling out of a trip 2 weeks ago down bermi that my mates cleaned up on anticipation was very high. The Bluefin after that hot bite went very very wide but by Thursday the longliners were shooting strings in close again .. Friday came we all met up and off we go for the 5 hr odd trip to beautiful Bermagui for some product testing and photo shoot. When down bermi ya gotta get a coffee and b&e roll off scotty at bermi bait n tackle as well as info of whats on and where so after breakkie sat morn we head off around 7am ish. the bar was working and we watched a trailerboat cross at stupid time with big air then we hammered over the lull to a rolling sea with big gaps between sets. we head out wide and with rainy skies, great water spouts and anticipation was high . the great thing we quickly learned is how good the fishoes are at sharing as radio chatter co-ords and call ins of a bite happened.. off we head and from what i learned later the first boats heading out had multiple hookups well short of first call in and a pack was formed.. as we neared the pack zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz multiple rods screamin and the game was on . we pull spread and fish in and jigs, poppers etc flying everywhere. i land mine and after a 5 min break i give a sinking stickbait and cast out for my first time.now i can rest a little let lure sink then rip it in as this worked for the boys 2 weeks ago. a half hearted rip...pause... rip again then the hots 83h/stella 10k combo goes nuts zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz shit....... we have guys everywhere hooked up so i get out the front.im now up front load up good turn fish then bugger comes back and under ..... i move around front meanwhile my backs screamin as much as the reel.it has another half run towards back then i hear guys scream as a big thump on line..bugger musta crossed lines but i still have weight.. it comes around alot heavier and straight up/down now but not much up .after the fish near breaks me i get color an see a nice big bf with my stickbait impailed in its side and not crossed lines as lured pulled outa mouth and jagged him..... bugger me no wonder i struggled to lift him,its not just because im soft.. . . fish were moving a bit so after a while we move on put spread out then bang repeat process. we start to realise that more fish were hitting deep baits/jigs better so we start doing kingy style jigging. move locate drop .. fish moved on so we left to locate them leaving the crowds.. after a while we find the mother load again.z zzzzzzzzzzzzzz multiples again .. we call the locals in and we all enjoy the fun... we kept 7 on first day and easily released a dozen or so.. the weather was supposed to be messy sunday so when we boarded it was amazing to see better cond than sat.clear skies flat seas ,wooohooo we were pumped.. well how different 2 days can be,i still recon it was because of alot less boats out but we eventually find them around lunchtime with all quad or 5 way hookup.. wooooooohoooooooooooo the tuna dance was highlight with over/under/around bugger im getting dizzy here... we get a couple of em then repeat yesterdays techniques. we call it in and straight away i see 3 boats howlin towards us.. after 15 mins or so with a few fish i look up to see a crowd of boats again.it was getting late and we head back leaving fish to beat bad weather and darkness over bar. not long after we left an 80 was boated with a 65 soon after on a double but we were comitted to getting home now very tired/sore and experianced the most amazing 2 days fishing ever for me.. we got fish from 30 to 55kg and some good fish lost also.. tally for sunday was 3 kept and about 10 released i think. if you have a chance to go just do it as it will prob get better over next few weeks if conditions are good.. trailerboats that do browns here should be able to do it but it will be very busy with news of good schools in close again. we saw a 103kg barrel get weighed sat so the barrels are there if ya can find them. my mail has them still going off with bigger ones amongst them but weathers not been good this week. enjoy the pics and vid. cheers....steve.... my backs stuffed so couldnt lift em proper and forget trying the big boys lol...

  21. hi guys, well ive been meaning to hit the sand for a while but things like the flu and life kept getting in the way. finally had enough of hearing the good jew being pulled of late so friday night had me loaded up and tossing in first bait on sunset. no time to get second rod ready as i got hit. couple minutes later released a nice shovelnose after showing some tourists about it. sent the other half of the big squid head out on the big gear (30lb) anchored on edge of hole/gutter to soak once again. sent out my 20lb patternoster setup with a mix of baits, bottom for jew/big bream and top gang for taylor/salmon etc, works well i have found.. well i pulled a couple more small sharks etc then had a couple of small hits on the top pilly bait.. hhmmmm bloody bream or pickers, not an overly bad thing i found as it means im in right spot for jew. decide to send out a hardier bait of thin strip of fresh taylor on top gang and refresh bottom 4/0 with squid candle(tentiucle) cast out in pitch black no moon hoping for same area (will see relevence later) hoping to snare the thieving buggers so i can maybe see whats pinching my hard earned bait. well didnt have to wait long and get real good hit so i set hook and rod loads up with some head shakes and im on. well 20lb and 14ft rod takes care of it and as i wash him in i glimsp silvery color and think small soapy for a split second then bang... bugger me its a panny red ..got him on the 4/0 loaded with squid. buggered if i can remember ever seeing one off the beach but havnt hit the sand much last few yrs either. anyways quickly got more bait out there but no more action.. try moving along gutter a bit but that was it unfortunately. after an hr i was standing near the big gear thinking at least something click over real taylor/shark/ray/anything as tide was topping out... then bang my rod goes of i hit it hard and lines racing off under some serious load. i walk the beach 50 meters or so then the bugger turns, shit i wind the alvey like a man possessed.now my head torch batteries are knackered as i forgot to charge them so keeping it on to watch rod tip is out as i will need it for gaffing etc.. well i am palming the spool and he keeps surging and im running outa beach ..i realise the no head shakes under loads the 30lb should not been able to handle mean prob just a monster ray so decide complete lockup an give nothing. after a couple minutes of wondering if rod will break before line the leader gives way just before my back does. oh well i was just hoping to see it in the wash to size it before cutting free anyways.. went home soon after as i was buggered and no hits on other rod.. cleaned the red which went 38cm and he hasnt been feeding as small intestines basicalle empty but his gullet, bit near throat containing recent food had one of my pillies in him.. bugger you i say got ya you thieving bastard anyway here is pic and its amazing that with a bait/lure in water that anythings possible eh... cheers...steve....
  22. Dont throw the 27 if it works and can run vhf also.. Guys still comunicate out wide on 27. But for safety run a vhf as better range . The run from 12 to longy wide can produce if yr lucky. Keep eye out for traps and personal fads as they will be loaded with dollies, we cant find a keeper last 2 trips though . Good luck..
