  1. well done thats a nice feed there and well earned doing it the ol fashioned way by hand. conditions out there look great... with the good water this w/e im sure it will be a carpark out there looking for tasty ooglies like those...
  2. well guys the weather was looking good and saturday i was thinking how good it would be out there then the boss gives me the leave pass for a fish sunday... wooohoooo .. phonecall and crew organised bring on sunday kingies... set off at 3am to pick up my mate then felt a bad shudder while doing 90 on mv rd..... eased over then checked trailer etc... bugger me.... the left tyre had delaminated in the centre section and i was soooo lucky it didnt blow out.. next thing the shitty standard wheel brace shat itself, bloody ford crap... call mate to meet me here then i zoom back while he takes guard over my baby... eventually get to rose bay much later than we wanted put in then off for liveys.. guess who left the burly in the car..... bugger crush up a pilly (only had 5 or 6) and pretty soon we have a tank full.. head off to 12 mile with a little wind chop on a .5 sea.. get out there and only half dozen of us looking, looking looking etc.. not alot sounding other than the dreaded sydney pirranahs but made a drop anyhows thinking hopefully my superspeed jigging would be enough to escape.... how stupid am i... along with other boats .well after losing one jig and luckily getting a couple past em with only badly nicked traces i pull solid then drop him... soon after i pull solid for 20 metres to loose the lot... ... gave up on jigs as its too damn costly at that rate so used lives.. no mater where we went they were bloody everywhere.. even some blind drops heaps away with no sounding soon as i near bottom i feel that rustling of the line till it all goes limp.. pulled the pin around 1pm with no more lead lots of line lost and my mojo taking a severe hammering. we did get 2 nice bonnies and a huge jacket that i had great pleasure in sticking knife in head 30 - 40 times... take that i scream you buggers had a slow troll back contemplating options and not one hit.. dodged the big speed bumps a few k's out with a parade of silly seakers stalking em.. now for my rant... if this knob is a member you will one day have big issues. if not hopefully no one here is siily enough to do this.. this half cab with me and another guy ahead of me waiting to pull out stops in centre lane, loads gear farts around even kicks over motor while still high an dry. pitty he didnt rev the shit outa it.. then after about 15 -20 mins with 3 on board push off nearly run into me on way past (im still with motor idle) after the knob gets car off ramp few minutes later i start to head towards ramp to see knobs nearly clean me up as they wanted to pick car driver up and i had to move outa way. well i suppose i was in the wrong as they do own the whole waterway and i should not be blocking there way pull boat up and try to forget about it as theres always knobs but still getting over being crook makes me a cranky bugger,or maybe im just getting old.. also i think it is now a couple of cm shallower at the 12 and the greens hopefully wont take any lead samples of water out there heres an example of what its like down there pitty we missed the early morning bite as i think this woulda changed the whole outcome of the days fishing... i would hate to fall overboard there as there would not be much left and sharks would be least of ya worries cheers...steve....
  3. bad luck on the beakie gaz.. yeh its strange the marlin are still around and a couple were caught over the w/e.. those fin are still out wide and im surprised theres not alot of reports yet as i know of a few good 50-70 keggers... i was a few k's off the joey with 3 boys under 8 whale watching and it was a pitty that wind came up as they had a great day till then... at least ya had a hookup and it will keep ya keen to get back out there looking for him again cheers...steve....
  4. gaz cond look unreal next w/e and theres a good chance of the fin being there... heard of some a little sth of sydney so hopefully they will be out there for the 500 boats camped at browns pumpin a gazillion pillies an hr was a couple of empty spools recently as the guys on mikes boat encountered.. who knows what they were but the optimist in me likes to think big fin of yellow or blue varieties .. good luck mate... we had one for over half hour that we thought would spool us so we chased it on tony's boat few yrs ago.. big arcing shark like runs and was called for a noah.. then had some massive deep runs from memory... everyones shoulders dropped till it finally came close an we saw sickles down to its tail .. got double up 4 times till it popped on the back corner just before gaf shot ... fishing can sure have some great surprise moments.... cheers....steve.....
  5. Funny you should mention blackies as i was saying to jaime over fish dinner i would love to be able to swap my kingy steak for blacky.. Weed and the flu has stopped me but will have to check out the weed spots very soon me thinks... Hope alls good up yr way... Thx for the replies guys... The jackets were hitting anything as usual and a couple times my sinker survived it had heaps of bite marks over it.. The couple of jackets we got were proper hooked in mouth, usually ya seem to jag the odd ones here and there but they were a little bit sneakier i think.. Lol... Conditions were abating from about lunchtime and was aparently a much nicer run home later for those that stayed out late...
  6. well i finally have the time to write up a report... after having the flu last 3 weeks and other things get in way of fishing i wasnt letting anything short of tsunami conditions stopping me.... checked all weather reports and some very conflicting ones so decided to poke our noses outside and see whats up,hopefully not wind or swell... yakkas didnt turn up for a very chilly 90 mins or so but once light hit the water there was plenty and in short time we had a tank full.. headed around south head to be greated with uncomfortable swell but fishable.. checked in with a couple mates and pointed our noses towards the peak.. was a slow ride with odd set of 2.5 to 3 swell and there was freq airtime but we eventually got to peak, wet as a cc ride but we were itchen for some fishen... moved around alot and there was not alot showing other than jackets but there was kings there.. tried for couple hrs with only action being a mako dancing out the back of us while i was re-rigging again.... i later saw him hanging around the drop liners bouy but we made the move to the 12 which was still messy but better than smashing head on... got to the 12 with a few boats there but not looking like alot was happening... went over the sth eastern corners to find a nice stack of kings and quick call of drop was screamed..current was a bitch like at peak so i just baitfished but my partner in crime dropped his 400gm ....... bang im on he calls as i hit bottom an raise 10 mtres or so,put rod in holder and get net ready then outa corner of my eye i spy my yakka get hit... wooooo hoooo im on... yr on yr own sunshine i call... mate gets his up and we carefully untangle wrapped lines and he swings aboard a nice kingy aroung the 80 mark.. i call mine for a bit bigger and in short time have him at surface but leave huim there for a crack at the followers... eventually swing him aboard and the followers were missed... tried to reset drift but other boats made it hard.. from then on we tried a few spots but the sydney pirahnas were in force.. its a bitch re-rigging in that swell but we plodded on.. we eventually find another good show without jackets on em and pull another good kingy.. was getting late and lost some more gear so pulled the pin after 1pm and made our way home... god i love the haines as it handled the swell great but i gotta get me some bloody clears done so i dont feel like a cc owner...lol... didnt take many pics but heres one.. do ya think i was happy to get this after all the hard work looking for em....
  7. happy 40'th Roberta ... well ya get around on your yak like a 40yr old hope ya enjoy the day and getting an ipad happy birthday to other raiders also.. cheers...steve.....
  8. hi Guys, well it started about 7pm when nearing home friday night my mate rings me telling me were off to JB and due to my trailer still not finished said hell yeh.. having nothing ready was an issue and by sunrise with less than 1hrs cat nap we were getting slimies and me being the guide for 2 boats the pressure was on. now im sure i told the guys this was my first real crack at jb and after me filling the tank with horse slimies and others wondering what i was doing different to them we headed out to block and cheese.we were limited with fuel and both boats not really setup for hardcore fishing so i settled for some drift fishing dropping livies, and besides i was knackered from no sleep as well as others by mid morning.. there was not alot showing so set some drifts over some marks and other likely terrain i found.. we got harrased by the biggest bonito with some well over the 70cm mark. my 2 crew were sleeping while i continued the hunt and other than a few big schools smashing the surface was not looking good.. one massive thing broached as i was re-rigging again from bonnies trashing trace only 5 - 6 metres away and as i looked all i saw was a massive spread of scales shimmering everywhere, got a slimey out within 20 seconds but whatever it was didnt come back,i suspect sammy seal but never saw it.. guys were not looking good and other boat wanted to go so i called last drift.. positioned to go over a couple of good formations then sent down my slimey.. got to bottom raised it about 10 metres, about 2 min passed and i felt a little nudge, hmmmm slowly lift to check thinking another bloody bonnie set hook then all hell breaks loose with that sweet sound of 6kg drag singing that sweet tune.i immediately go to sunset of 10kg or so and it still pulls string..wooooohooo i call ,"this is what we came to JB for". this thing really gave me curry and esp since i barely had energy to pull rods up before last move.. adrenaline pumping and some lifts and no winds and i eventually get color with decky telling me theres no gaff .. i scream for the boys to get a bait in as there was half dozen followers of equal an bigger size while contemplating holding fish in water for them i notice my 8/0 only just in side of jaw i made the call to swing him aboard as the other guys were busy trying to get followers.. woooohoooooo yes adrenaline is a wonderful thing as i was all fueled up now and ready to do battle again.. get another big slimey down and within a short time i get another soft nudge, hmmmm i see a pattern emerging here... bang im on again..woooohooo . after another spirited fight i land another good jb kingy.. we were pretty buggered and other boat wanted to go so sent last livey down to get molested by bonnies so we pulled the pin for a cracker run home in glassed out seas.. i didnt crack that magic meter mark but was bloody close .. thanx guys for a great trip down jb and its a pitty we only got a few kings but it was very slow down there and from the tentative bites i got i would assume they were there but just not feeding for some reason,i dont think sounder was setup proper so was flying blind mostly.. heres a pic of a hard earned pair of kings.. tally for the day was 3 kings and a few monster bonnies to about 75cm or so,never got them that big before.... cheers...steve....
  9. thx guys.... to the other raiders also... i had day off as we had some family stuff to attend to but otherwise a quiet day... heading off for w/e fishing next week to celebrate another yr down the gurgler with the blessings .... spoilt myself up at the crowne plaza hunter last w/e at my mates 40th so i think i did ok this yr.. was great to chat today byron and wil pop down soon when i can get down yr way.. yes Roberta he did let the little pussycat outa the bag .. no fishing for me come late november as we will be a little busy .. thx again guys for the good wishes and phone calls.. cheers...steve...
  10. If ya didnt hear it yet.. Yes the yanks finally did it... O sama b ladin ..the face of terrorism and the catalyst to the way the whole world has changed since 911... Hopefully this wont bring about retaliation by his crazy followers.. I feel all major targets will get massive security increses.. I still dont see how it took this long with all they had at there disposal to get him.. Many black bag ops failed till now that is.. Woooohoooo Great way to start the week... May this be one step closer to peace...
  11. the explosion of baitfish was like a hand grenade going off and the odd taylor in amongst the hoard of batfish trying to escape... if i got those taylor,or the big mullet i prob would walk them along the wall for a jew... has many big jew been caught there last 2 weeks... those samsons dont have a legal limit and even a small one (compared to legal king) has a good bit of meat as i find them usually pretty thick.. good luck to keith up byron bay.. cheers...steve....
  12. great report Roberta as usual... as for that speckled fish it tastes like crap so send it to me and i will dispose of it for you its a samson... tast simmilar to kingy as its in the seriola family... very yummy.. mmmmm smoked taylor... watched some horses rounding up the baitfish in pitty this morning and some launched a foot or so outa the water cheers...steve...
  13. i have usually just pulled plugs and winterised my motor that way as thats what a mate told me to do yrs ago when i got my firs boat... can someone add the reasoning behind running motor dry etc and why its safe/not safe to do... i assumed from what i was told that potentially it could be issue and seing as it only takes couple min to rip plugs out i always took safer option.. hopefully with 14k members surely theres a couple of mechanics that can add into this.... cheers...steve.......
  14. must of missed that post mate... been pretty busy lately.... seems like alot of interest in this sort of stuff so i might do a carbi rebuild/service topic up with things to be concerned about... in another life i was in the fuel game and there is alot of bulking agents used... some good some horrible for us boaties.. Ethanol is the main one the company i was with long before comonly known and when it is 20% the $ of petroleum base i will leave you to work out what goes on... keeping yr fuel fresh and buying from the least amount of places so if you get a bad batch you can get them to compensate you.(yes this is possible sometimes with proof of purchase).. i dont think there is a product made that will stop stale fuel being an issue... phase seperation occurs between the different components see this report.not the whole story and only if 10% "E" is used... even if not labelled good chance servo is adding "E" .. http://www.epa.gov/o...fg/waterphs.pdf my motor ran fine for quiet a while then when out at the fad we started to return in horrible seas my motor kept stalling.. with 2.5mtres of sloppy sharp chop it was a little concerning.. the things hidden i were not aware of caused this.. right choices in fuels, storage and service etc could have prevented my issue which luckily was a happy ending.. in hindsight i should of stripped carbies when i got boat but it kicked over first go everytime... food for thought guys.... great topic rockfisherman .. as for running yr new motor dry couple times i wouldt worry too much.. the main thing is lubrication and especially in older engines with crap buildup you can do a ring/piston.. bit extreme but a possibility.. running yr new motor in is a must though as everything is tight this is why higher oil level is used in this period... what motor do you have... im sure craig from huett marine will see this post and give his understandings to all this.. at end of the day gather all info ya can and make an informed choice as to what is needed... im just a handy guy and no mech but hopefully something is of use ... cheers....steve.....
  15. letting yr boat sit idle is def a bad thing as mentioned.. Geoff is spot on there... the crap we get thats called fuel can be real bad if left.. also a good fuel filter and change regularily.. here is what i found when i rebuilt my carbies... this is prob because before i got boat from my mate he let it sit for 18mths and also not replacing fuel filter enough. .. it surprised me it ran at all.. as for drying out the gaskets... i dont think its an issue but im not a mech..... im not a fan of running motor till fuel runs out as the pistons need lubrication and possible to score the bore with ring especially on older motors... for long time storage remove plugs spray oil mixture inside rotate flywheel by hand and drain carbies using drain plug/screw... just my 2 bobs worth... hope it helps... cheers....steve....
  16. Congrats well done garry :yahoo: sounds like alot of bloody hard work though the sickness has def set in now i recon, cheers...steve...

  20. well done to Kieth .. even the big "C" cant stop him from giving the younger guys a touch up.. he is a true champion and role model for people struggling with obstacles in life.. if you put the hard yards in you can achieve anything.. . as for yr fishing exploits, very nice surprise with the muddie eh.. he woulda been straight in the pot for me.yummo.. good luck with the yaks ,not that ya prob need it as theres some awesome fish on up there atm... cheers...steve.....

  24. there is a big difference between inkjet and laser printers... using inkjets was very popular due to laser too exe for home users but like ya say the $ is very good for laser now.. the first thing anyone whether home or business is look at your amount of pages(add extra in case business expands) you do over a period of time.. say mthly or yr. now with this figure look at the printer copier and do a total cost of ownership.. this includes toner , ink , drum/image units , fuser unit.. now once you get these figures of each printer copier it will allow you to make a more informed choice.. as example... a $300 printer may cost you $4000 to run over say a 5 yr life... buying the $600 one may actually be cheaper over 5yrs of say $3000 and still have more life left... gen rule is smaller/cheaper the device the more expensive it is to run with consumables.. for mono black most are about same image quality but when its color there is alot of dif in quality of prints... this is what you need to look at,photo grade or just pictures from web or docs etc... roberta give me a buzz if ya need ... i can put you onto a cheap place that will deliver as yr local place there are numnuts and put big margins on anything.... hope this helps..... cheers...steve.....
  25. always sad to hear of someone passing away. he was a real fighter and our condolences to his family.. he was generous in his knowledge of fishing the dark art (blackies) and was a good bloke to fish with.. you will be missed mate.... the memorial is a great idea stewy .. steve.....
