  1. nah, sugarloaf bay is the one south of that mark, so sugarloaf point is the one at the end of edinburgh road... the point to the north of your mark is Yeoland point, which also has a good drop-off... - i will aslo check out nearmap
  2. i have also been following with interest as i have a new 2500 reel coming in soon... my Q - if spooling on with 6lb braid, 150yd wont cover the spool, so what sort of backing should be used? and how do you know how much you should put on? cheers,
  3. its funny - every time i case out a spot in MH from google maps, i gotta remind my self it seems to be a really high tide the day the picture was taken! but apart from that - mack attack has given great advice on good spots...
  4. you gotta tell us what the purpose you want to use it for is? to see bites OR attract bites?
  5. Pretty safe, unsure of lights, pretty sure it's not a known squid spot though? We were there for breams etc...
  6. http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=+middle+harbour&hl=en&ll=-33.813777,151.23274&spn=0.002179,0.004286&sll=-33.866888,151.200864&sspn=0.004356,0.008572&t=h&hq=middle+harbour&radius=15000&z=18 that is Figtree Point
  7. it was low tide, and water was brown and dirty when I caught this one off the bottom on sunday in Long Bay: it has been mentioned that dirty fresh water floats on top of the celar saltwater? i didnt have a squid jig on me to see if there were any more.. but will next time!!!
  8. I caught one sunday at 20cm one off Figtree point using 3/0 & pilchard strip...
  9. you get a simple 'legal sizes' pamphlet with your licence, but most would discard it without a second throught? and for NESB, the only multi-lingual DPI publication seems to be this one: "Fishing from Sydney Harbour Commuter Wharves (in Chinese, Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Korean and Arabic)" which i guess is a quite important practical issue...
  10. i was telling my wife about the guy on the wharf next to me when i was catching livies, who offered me an u/s whiting to go with my yakkas, and how i explained to him the differences between keeping small "baitfish" and not keeping young fish with legal size limits... and she asked the most obvious question I nearly fell over: "why dont you have to pass a knowledge test before you get your fishing licence, you know, like for your car or boat licence?" um, errr, um, well i dunno!!! maybe because it might discourage people from buying licences?
  11. also - i found some useful & interesting information in the DPI guide: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/202349/NSW-SWG-2012.pdf pages 20-30 comments like: "Up to 76 percent of released line-cut, gut-hooked bream shed hooks within around three weeks." are very interesting!
  12. it certinly inspires awe - that sort of creature... well done on your strategies
  13. hmmm, i was fishing LB MH yeterday and it was brown as hell on top... but guess what i caught? a 20cm squid!!! with a pilchard fillet on a 3/0 circle hook on the bottom in around 8m of water.
  14. A sharp hook is better than a blunt hook...
  15. for anyone silly enough to skip a Fishraiders story about any fishing adventure - go back up top and read! great story mate, loved every word, your family must of had a great day - do they appreciate the immensity of the cobia catch? they must, it is and awesome sight and i was reading a fishing mag that mentioned cobia boat-shyness, i can imagine it would be a scary last few meters on 15lb
  16. could also be because they are wet? the oil boils any moisture which is what could be causing the spitting oil... dry on paper towel before placing them in... OP - are you deep frying or shallow frying???
  17. i've recently started fishing land based at brisbane waters, and was taken to a 'special' spot by a mate and there was another group of guys already there... they were pissed and laughing and having a good time, but left around sunset... we moved over to take their 'better' spot, and i remarked to my mate "geez, those guys musta been here half the day, but there isn't a trace of them being here!" my mate replied that it was like that up here, "you gotta keep it clean"... i mostly fish middle harbor, and often clean up some scraps, but nothing like in your pictures.... no wonder you are SORBLE, it would make me ANGRY! how hard is it??? you buy bait - it comes WITH A BAG - use it for your RUBBISH!!!
  18. pretty sure rules & regs for PH are in here: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/329331/Sydney-South-Recreational-Fishing-Guide.pdf (page 4?) all rules and regs for NSW are here: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/publications
  19. that makes more sense! i kinda wondered what 'hand jigging' meant... sorry for teh misinformation...
  20. lives can be found at usually any wharf or pier, burley up with bread... but must be jigged via hand reel only: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/regulations/sw/methods
  21. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/regulations/sw/sw-bag-and-size 5 sharks in total (Bag limit comprised of any single species or a combination of listed grouped species.), only 1 tiger, mako, blue shark, hammerhead or other whaler species.
