  1. appletree bay - there s one by the dunny's mate, my jetski buddy uses it!
  2. but 70cm Mulloway = 5 x 35cm bream? right? good work and BTW - smile for the camera!!!!
  3. i sharpen my knife on a steel several times during the fillet of a single fish, if this helps the OP... bones can really dull a fine fillet knife edge...
  4. ha ha - i'll have to admit i have a few different jars as spares or for a quick addition to a stirfry , but i really like fresh curry paste for the fish... hope the kitchen is cranking out some good smells for you tonight
  5. some nice tailor around the beaches.. i spent the arvo crushing up a fresh set of green curry pastes! goes great with bream & flatties, yet to try it with tailor... nah, in terms of jewfish bait - i think they're only useful when fresh off the fish... Zaid has got it - make some proper stock! use the carcass too for my asian stock i also chuck in a thumb of sliced galangal or ginger plus black peppercorns or Szechuan pepercorns and burn this slightly before the sautee... adds a dimension... you can freeze stock for a few months too - ziplock bags work...
  6. TIP: google "book Sol Bannura Ghost" the answers about the above problem (plus hundreds more) might be revealed to you... i have just finished reading it, and can't wait to try and put it into action... i am land based only, but share your location and will keep targeting one bridge in particular to learn the species we are chasing...
  7. despite being such ancient fish, the Cowan Creek crew just got broadband and have been checking out FR every night looking for posts like yours and posting: "LOL, busted off five guys last night" type posts on hairtail.com.au JK, sorry i cant help,
  8. how are you 'presenting' the squid, on one hook or two??
  9. ha ha - some great fun when there is plenty of action, and i dont mean just in the water! thanks for the report
  10. you usually have to create a new set of angles to bring back the blade, this is the style of tool that can be used: http://www.kingofknives.com/Cutlery/Sharpeners/Sharpening/Pull-Through-Sharpeners---Blocks/Klevasharp-knife-and-shears-sharpener.aspx then hone and lap as you'd usually do... i dunno the best brands, but all i can tell you is to get a bench mounted one - not one that you hold in you hand and run along the blade...
  11. i have seen this drawn before: and i am thinking i will try it out at my rail bridge next time... with a running ball sinker on the river bed - this allows allows the fish to face upwards, allows the mulloway a head first take, allows the hook to stick the mouth (hopefully!) what do you think?
  12. ok - that makes sense... also - if there is a strong current, would you perhaps use the 'trolling' style, e.g. near brige pilons? (thinking of why way would tire teh fish otu faster if it is having to swim...) <-- still learning now - can you please put up the 'unpainted' pic of the yakka? so that we too may indulge in some MS Paint fun!
  13. GREAT POST & THREAD! to add detail are the 'stationary' methods are all suitable for land-based mulloway in both estuary, rocks and beach? or is one method better for particular scenarios?
  14. it was written back in a previous time when people could retell jokes like that with impunity...
  15. lol - i just bought two today, red and blue! but the tackle shop did give me advice: use a standard paternosta rig with star/grapnal/snapper sinker on the bottom with two 30-50cm branches - one around 50cm above the sinker and the other around 100cm above the sinker with a normal hook on one branch and the popper on teh other branch. hope that makes sense? they indicated that colour depended on the species, the water colour, the light conditions, nothing at all etc (i.e. 'how long is a piece of string')
  16. just a quickie - whiting on poppers AT night? still a goer?
  17. yep, i like the long version better! thanks did you see any other people? or was it just you and the beautiful scenery?
  18. nice captures! maybe don't leave it so long next time
  19. ive only caught them in mooney mooney creek - they behaved quite horizontal in that environment!
  20. was someone holding your leg at the time they told you this?
  21. great report, but gotta point out possibly the worst typo in this situation!!! congrats! 45cm certainly is "monster class" bream
  22. it would depend on teh location to some extent...
  23. perhaps some more info is required: what fish are you using as live bait? what fish are you targeting? where & how are you fishing?
  24. basically up-water of the spit bridge I guess? http://www.shorefishingaustralia.com.au/Locations.do?action=ShowRegion&regionID=1
  25. check the reports section, plenty of good hits in middle harbour?
