  1. good stuff mate, nice to know they are firing
  2. for metal eyelets & nylon - locked half blood for anything 15lb or under, thumb knot for anything over (well, up to 50lb as that is max i use)... for braid to metal eyelet - uni knot
  3. good stuff Ian!! well done on teh plastics success - thanks for sharing but cant seem to see the pics?? EDIT - oh, they are all on Flickr - sorry, i should have checked - nice flatty
  4. i think the boat ramp is not operational ATM...
  5. well in your OP case, having only 4 reels, it would be impossible to "use" more than four rods, as per the law... the term 'possession' does not exist anywhere in the regulations, and is only used on the website and in the printed guides...
  6. mid knot eh? like this: it looks neater than the slim beauty as it doesnt have the double overhand... gonna give this a try tonight
  7. another situation; fishing with a mate, both of us have multiple rods: 4 with bait, 2 with lure, so 6 rods total between us. mate decides we need more beer and ducks off the the shops after reeling in his two baited lines, but leaves the rigged rods and all his gear with me at the fishing spot... so i am there with my three rods which are "in use" but i also have his three rods that are rigged (even has bait on the hooks as mate would be back in 10 minutes)- but not cast out... the fisheries website states: (my emphasis) and lists: "4 rods or hand lines" so according to the DPI website i have too many rods in my possession?? but according to the current NSW law, which i have quoted above, i am only "using" 3 rods, so i am OK... the legislation says nothing about "possession" of gear, and only refers to "use" - i dunno why the DPI thinks it can print rules prohibiting something without it being actually illegal?
  8. NB - "hand lines" = rods AND hand reels...
  9. yes - it could be better articulated in legislation, which statess: http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/fragview/inforce/subordleg+475+2010+pt.3-div.7+0+N?tocnav=y see how the legislation says "must not USE more than 4 rods", instead of "have more than four rods rigged"? if it came down to court - wriggler's situation *might* pass... but fisheries seems to interpret it another way???
  10. hey Andy, nice catch, can i ask what sized hooks? might be down at Gerroa in july on the rocks, and will try to hit some pigs there....
  11. I was told once by a fisheries officer that the rods needed to be rigged to be in use, but then asked him where this was stated in the legislation he couldn't tell me and said it comes down to commonsense.... Sorry I can't provide 100% answer...
  12. also - does anyone use super glue? does it make the knot last longer? any downsides?
  13. fishing at the moment is a bit hard land based (i am talking central coast personally) i had one great night mid-may on SP's with a big flatty and 3 x tailor, several bream, then dounts since then... so just to just feel some rod bending, went bait fishing yesterday, for about 10 little reds, a LJ and some small whiting... no rod bends from these guys i just don't think the bigger fish were around, or if they were, they were not feeding? i could have changed spots - i just wasn't sure where to go... upstream, or out to the ocean side??? sometimes the ecosystems are in a state of change - right now there is not the same action as a month ago... different species and different tactics are required? sorry i cant give you tips, but i can share your situations... i will not give up and will keep thinking about the fish and where & why they might be some place...
  14. i think the key to it is learning when to stop pulling both ends (mainline + mainline tag) and just pulling on the mainline... if you pull it too far and slip over the leader, it will fail... it seems different for all the different lines weights... i use albright for up to 15lb leader, slim beauty for 15lb+ (as the tag end faces towards the reel, so hits the guides in a slightly more streamlined way... albright with <15lb the tag is small)
  15. how can you tell it is not a rock blackfish/drummer?
  16. you might need to clear the cache? go to internet + MORE + CLEAR CACHE + OK you might lose your saved passords etc, but you can just put all these back in again... if this doesnt work, you might need to clear the cookies as well.. HTH
  17. i dunno much abt rock blackfish, but is a 'pig' a large version, like a 'hoodlum' king? or do you call them all pigs? biggest i have dragged out is a 35cm version from Munmorah...
  18. my 2c = are you leaving a lot of slack? if there is no tension usually from the sinker, then the fish may swallow the hook... unless your drag is so loose that there is no tension (would have to be a bait-runner style) or you are in free spool or open bail? it is the effort of the fish to 'move off' with the bait in its mouth that makes the circle hook 'hook'
  19. in that case, sounds like a forester woudl be a good choice, have a look here: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f81/ and maybe you'll find out which models (if any) have weak clutches... (PLUS lots more!)
  20. clutch longevity can relate alot to a drivers abilities, so if you buy a forester that has had a numpty driver, then you are going to be more concerned... but - how the heck do you know? if you have been fine with an accord, then why the change? must it be AWD + diesel + wagon?
  21. wowzers!!!! thanks for sharing
  22. and for complete accuracy, it is called "Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park" Skullidug: Gates to Bobbin Head and Appletree Bay are closed from 8pm to 6am during daylight savings periods, and from 5.30pm to 6am at other times of the year.
