  1. When I lived on the South Coast I used to regularly catch Blackfish in the estuaries on shelled prawn and live nippers. Never caught one with weed. I tried but couldnt get one, switched to prawn and nippers and bingo ! Same tactic as Bluecod desribed but with bait, just drifting a float along the edges of the weedbeds. Dont know if this works in the Sydney waterways but it worked down their. I know Ken catches them on sp's which im keen to try too. Anyone else have success on bait around here ?

    Which Boat

Just another opinion, Im a big fan of the Stacer Elite. Hard to fault and should handle a bit of chop too. Im also pretty sure they have 7 foot rod lockers too.
  3. Sorry, I should have added that I meant Magnesium in its manufactured state as used in the finished product. Good to hear from you Evan.
  4. Dunno but I reckon Swoffa will have one first
  5. Heres a technical tid bit. Magnesium is one the most corrosive of the metals depending on conditions. Its rate of corrosion can depend on humidity, temperature, and what type of magnesium it is. Magnesium is generally a combination of Zinc and manganese and needs to be properly treated to resist corrosion. Untreated magnesium would corrode away as quick as the zinc anode on you motor. Treated magnesium reels will resist corrosion but its hard to see it being better than aluminium frames. Perhaps the Daiwa reels have got a particular resistant protection coating that allows them to be used in salt, whereas Shimano doesnt bother. I cant see that having a magnesuim reel is anything more than a gimmick to be different than the rest. Metal will always return to its natural state by way of corrosion. You cant beat nature. Some metals will do this quicker than others. Gold is at the top of the list for the slowest rate, while zinc and blended metals like magnesium alloy are at the bottom and dissolve quicker. In saying all that though perhaps a reel made from magnesium will simply wear out before it corrodes away......

    Line Life

Dont know if this make any sense or not, but I find fireline to be very prone to loose winds and tangles when brand new. Almost needs to be 'broken in'. After a couple of sessions it seems fine. I replace line when it looks frayed and worn, not on timeframe cause I dont go out that consistantly, but usually falls between 6 and 12 months.
  7. Yep an OMC for sure. The fuel fump gave it away for me. Looks like it needs some work though. Onya Wakd
  8. Tell you what, you could be right LW. If their is pics of a turtle and a rabbit ( fast and slow ) on the handle near the grip, it is definately a Tohatsu.
  9. Really admire your passion on these issues Iain. You like a freakin' dog with a bone mate
  10. Agree with Fishn need a few more shots, some of the engine would be good. It really should have some kind of compliance tag around the clamp area. That throttle handle looks familiar but I cant put my finger on it. Im sure we will pick it.
  11. Onya Joe, nice to have a win. When hell freezes over... he he even thats to soon.
  12. Fair enough, the question is why does each Daiwa site list it differently? Daiwa.com
  13. Mate i went to Daiwa.com and followed the links.
  14. As a side issue I noticed that Certates are listed as a Freshwater reel on the Diawa website. Does that mean they wont last in the salt ? Does it affect their warranty if used in the salt ?
  15. Yeah mate I got plenty of those spots I could take you to soooo many fishless spots.
  16. Id be happy to get involved except I have one problem. I cant catch a Jewie to save my life !
  17. Tough day Jethro, Its a hard joint to fish unless you've got your spots already lined up me thinks. I reckon you need to spend a week up there just feeling the place out to find some likely spots. I think you can spend a lot of time just getting to places and going round in circles getting nowhere. This is however some big bream in there. A mate of mine's old man lives on the lake and in the past two weeks has taken 4 or 5 bream over the 45cm mark Just hangs an old prawn off his jetty and never misses. The interesting part is that the locals say there is a channel that runs right past these jetties lined with weed banks and these bream are in the channel hugging the edges. I think that is the trick here. To sound out some likely looking weed banks in the deeper water as opposed to the normal warf and jetty, and even moored boat routine, used in other places. Just what ive heard anyway, cant say ive got into them there yet either. Cheers
  18. Thanks Matt good answer. You have to understand that there is a lot of people out there like us who are very passionate about this topic and getting straight answers is very difficult. All any of us are looking for is a sustainable fishery to enjoy without it being raped by pro's. All we can see at times is trawlers scooping up everything in sight with no regard for the future which is very troubleing. Although you may need the pro's catch for research I still think it stinks. If the pro's dissappeared there be plenty of fish to study while returning our waterways back to normal. Any info you give is very much appreciated, thanks for giving us another viewpoint.
  19. There definatley something wrong here. After reading Rockworms post about the jewie slauther in the Richmond River, then this one about restocking it next year, really adds weight to getting rid of the pro's as the highest priority. There is clearly no point restocking this river until they are gone for good. Almost sounds like a plan that was meant to be that way. Mattyt, whats your thoughts on the river you are going to restock being emptied just as quicky ? Cheers
  20. Nice looking rod there Wayne. Yep a bit dear for me, just hope the Coastal does the trick. I was a bees dick of the Stradic and opted for a cheaper version, compares to the Sustain quality I think, but not commen in Aus. Cheers
  21. Spot on there, thats exactly what it is. But surely the committees of expert anglers that Ken refered to in the original post who control the trusts can do this negotiation or at least work on something. Can we contact these people and see what their stance is ?
  22. Iain, I also contacted Jim Harnwell in regards to the future of RFH scheme and this is what he wrote. ****************** "The current Fisheries Minister won't commit to any more RFH unless it is a negotiated proccess between the rec and pro fisherman. Your right he is pro biased and it is a joke. The licence fees do other things like FADS, research ,restocking etc,etc - but im with you in that the money should be used to buy out the pro's and return our estuary systems to a sustainable level. Ill do my best to push these points in the mag and try and influence the minister to become more rec friendly. But im not holding my breath" Regards Jim ****************** So it seems this is perhaps the next step. How does this negotiation proccess become a reality ? Is there someone trying to make this negotiation ? Id sure like to know. I think it is good to contact people like Jim, as Iain did re Kingfish traps, and try to stir up some activity. People like him seem to have some pull and if we get these type of issues published in a highly regarded mag it has to help. Cheers. Oh yeah - Buy a licence Iain.
  23. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzhooked Im a little suprised that no one can comment on these items knowing how much knowledge is on this site. (except Joe - cheers). Have to say ive always struggled to get comments on tackle questions for some reason. Oh well.
  24. You've completely lost me there What has KMart and broken rods got to do with anything. Are you suggesting this rod I got is a KMART special ? Can you clarify please.
