  4. Very good information I'm certain it will help a lot of people including me And thanks for sharing
  5. That is a very nice SBT Did you end up weighing it? Well done
  6. really depends on what your chasing during winter tailor and salmon really fire up, so I target them but in summer I target bream, whiting etc
  7. Wow Absolutely Awesome Great report and pics
  8. Solid stuff So many Tuna being caught at the moment
  9. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/regulations/sw/methods so this is what it says on DPI: Number of hooks per line - 3 hooks or three gangs of hooks * * A gang of hooks should have no more than 5 hooks. No more than 3 trebles attached to a lure. Any Raider know how to interpret this would a treble hook be counted as one hook or three?
  10. hopefully the pool of Fishraider knowledge will be opened and someone will know
  11. I think it is a crimson banded wrasse But it doesn't have the crimson band near its tail like in this photo from http://australianmuseum.net.au/crimsonband-wrasse-notolabrus-gymnogenis
  12. There are many different types of parrot fish (around 90), I'm pretty sure its a parrot fish but not sure what type of parrot fish ( I could be wrong though, as I'm no fish expert). Wrasse and parrot fish are closely related species Hopefully a Raider can clarify though Cheers
  13. yeah i had one rod with a half pillie and 4/0 suicide but that didnt get touched as much as the other ganged pillies I got more hits on the gang for some reason i think it means three sets of gangs per line and a maximum of 5 hooks per set of gangs "A gang of hooks should have no more than 5 hooks"(DPI) So would a treble be counted as one hook to make it a total of 4 (three hooks and a treble) or would it be counted as three meaning a total of 6(three hooks and three hooked treble)
  14. top haul mate good to see so many bluefin being caught cheers
  15. thanks mate. hopefully we will be hearing a report from you soon I just used a simple running sinker rig with a size 8 long shank to try to get some yakka( no yakka about) I used a size 2 suicide for the trevally and bream very simple but its always effective As for the parrot fish it was released to fight another day Yeah tried to catch some squid but they weren't there that day unfortunate so i switched to bait the other people around didn't seem to have any luck with the squid either Hope this helps Don't really know many people that keep parrot fish But that dish looks pretty nice
  16. hahaha, I really want to try that flushing toilet paper trick. will keep the fishing addiction at bay that stinger hook seems like a great idea, will be trying this next outing thanks yeah I wait that long (about 5-10 seconds) then strike but sometimes i get too excited and strike a bit early cheers hahaha thanks mate glad to know that putting fishing reels in the toilet isn't such an insane idea
  17. And for those who really cant go a day without fishing You should get one of these
  18. After not fishing for a while, I had to decided to give the beach a crack a couple of days ago, due to having seen so many salmon and jewies being caught. Headed to Terrigal Haven rocks to try and get some fresh bait for the beach,or some trevally/bream for the table. After catching many just undersized bream and squire finally hooked onto a solid fish which i called for a trevally, after a dirty fight it got me snagged on the rocks that were close to my feet. luckily there were a couple of divers there that helped untangle the line and land the fish. The trevally went 40cm and i was really happy with it as i was using light gear and i was lucky not to be busted off. After a couple more undersized bream and a nice 40cm parrot fish decided to head to budgewoi beach as it was nearing sunset. Got there and it was so windy and there was so much side current. It basically couldn't be fished. Had to move to a more sheltered beach. Got there after sunset and rigged up the beach rods with ganged pillies and surf poppers. First cast, got a bite then bang i'm on. After a solid fight a nice 62 cm salmon was on the beach. Hi fives all round. In the next 2 hours we got another salmon and 2 tailor. Many times I would think I was on and after 10 seconds in the fight the line would go slack. It was pretty annoying. Any ideas on how to stop this? maybe invest in some circle hooks? Pretty awesome night, and it was good to get into some decent fish after not fishing for a while. Hopefully next outing I can get onto some jewfish. Tight lines!!!
  19. nice haul im going to be heading of the beach this weekend and its good to see some of the beaches producing what bait did the damage on the bronzie? cheers
  20. no problem at all sorry for the late reply happy to share when i went there it was still summer and we were catching some solid whiting on tube worms we were casting into the channel from the break wall but now i have heard heaps of salmon are moving in as catchin jack said dont neglect the beach as well find a nice gutter and it should fish well for the salmon i have also heard of some jewies being caught on live yakka from the breakwall as well might be a long shot but worth a try if you get your hands on some livies hope this helps
  21. wow those pics are really something the kingy looks so similar to a yakka
  22. i got to say the water looks really calm, and when its calm, the salmon arent usually there looks like a good session, must've been freezing cheers
  23. your best bet would be ganged pillies of wamberal beach there is usually a nice gutter running along the surf near the surf lifesaving club try to go when a high tide meets sunrise or sunset this time of year there is a high chance of salmon and tailor or you could go terrigal beach near where the lagoon opens up to the sea same tactics there as well caught a couple salmon there last week
  24. Hey mate Never caught them at night with lures how effective are lures at night? i thought they needed more light to actually see the lure or is the vibrations caused by the lure enough? cheers
  25. I have seen people on the rocks catching decent crabs by drawing them out of their holes using the stocking and bait trick they then use the end of a spear (the ones with three prongs) and spear them dont know if this is popular but it does work cheers
